I'm gonna update my original post:
Well, I have noticed some improvements in lag. Sure, it's still noticeable here at home, Motsu, but thats understandable as its a busy system right in the heart of agent mission runner territory. The missions have been playable though and I've managed to reach 600k lp. So the server has been acting better. No navy raven yet though. *sigh*
Market and Mission Escrow is still too laggy, but I have a feeling that is due to whatever databaseing software is being used and not just current server issues. Eve requires a very professional database solution, more along the lines of Banking software than along the lines of Microsoft Access ;/
Eve client has a wierd crash bug. Happens when I dock and undock from a busy station and manifests itself with a hard reset of my computer. Dosen't seem to be a common bug but I've had it a lot and have talked to one person who has had it to. For a game to reboot windows xp means there is something very wrong in the client code imo. I've had this 4 times a day on one occasion, but as mysteriously as it appears it dissapears for a while and is too random for me to pinpoint exact causes.
CCP need to rethink the allocation of resources and even the whole setup of the game. Eve needs central systems like Jita and Oursalert and Rens. There needs to be trade hubs like this as the economy grows and as traders become more commonplace. You can't expect players to pop out in a frigate and travel through many regions to finally find what they are looking for at a good price, no, the players will go to systems they know are central and busy. The same thing with agents. If one is of a higher quality than another of course that system will become a mission runner and ultimately a trade hub. The server has to accomodate this better. I have seen over 1000 people in Jita at one time. Of course mission escrow has a lot to do with this, but unless ccp comes up with some sort of npc delivery system people will flock together. So I suggest ccp thinks about this, as I believe there will allways be busy systems, and there has to be. After a while people simply dont want to waste all their time in transit.
And a pet peev of mine: Please clear up undocking algorithms. It totally breaks suspension of disbelief to undock from a station and find 50 ships stacked up like it is some sort of stellar graveyard. A simple stacked holding pattern would work. Maybe more undocking gates? And it would save us from noticing just how crap collision detection in eve is...
There is a lot of work to be done in eve, but overall its a great game, and probably no other game comes close to what ccp has achieved in this online microcosm. So I am staying a few months in the hope that things clear up and the game evolves to accomodate its player base in a satisfactory manner. I'll leave with one request though:
Revise the skill training durations and multipliers. Either that or allow training for 2 characters per account simultaneously (that way I could be a pirate carrier pilot hehe). Now that more and more content is added it would be nice if players did not have to train for years to be able to access a small portion of it. If you make the experience richer for the 6 month old players in eve I am sure down the line you will have a greater number of 2 year olds ;)
Eve is not unplayable, just in some respects flawed. I guess that's progress though.
Bye.

The lag is slowly getting worse and worse. Both in busy systems and out in 0.0
Last night the lag was so bad we killed a ship numerous times, along with the pod.. same ship! and then we had pods cluttering overview for the rest of the night.
Lag is making this game not so much fun anymore and I am looking at other things to pass the time, it may come to the final option, liquidate all assets, and sell the character. Forget Eve completely and play some ordinary games. Time to complete HL2 perhaps, or rebuild that linux pvr I have laying about.

CCP - Fix the servers, or stop allowing new subscribers until you do. You're going to lose your existing playerbase at this rate.

A couple of points I'd like to make:
- If the problem is upsetting Windoze then it's not Eve's fault. I'd start looking at hardware stability or quality of drivers.
- Servers are not that often causing problems, most problems are from client stutter or real internet outages. The international links sometimes vanish or just a more localised outage. You can see when the servers have had node drops by the dips in user numbers on the server status graph.
This is not at all a defense of CCP's methods, I personally think their code base is crap, just that some of the complaints are not caused by the servers and therefore won't be improved when the extra nodes are added.

Edited by: Nell Quick on 20/10/2006 00:26:37 Just thought I'd throw in another post, mainly to keep this thread up the top there...
I can't say lag's more than an annoyance to me. I don't do PVP - I just fight little rats, and I don't have an expensive ship. But an annoyance it is, still.
What's really hacking me off right now is traffic control. That's system control and login control. Login control's particularly annoying because it usually doesn't actually mean anything except that I've got to shut down the client and log in over again, because for some reason it always seem to forget the massive queue the second time I try. I'll grant you, it's not that it takes an hour to load the client, or anything, but if there's no queue, why tell me there's a queue?
And then there's in-system traffic advisories. I mean what the blazes are they supposed to be for? I ferried some stuff from Ashab to Renyn earlier and had a traffic advisory on every damned system. A couple of them, admittedly, were lagged all to hell. Most had a couple of dozen ships in them. So what's going on, exactly? Why are we having traffic advisories for systems with no traffic in them? If we're going to have this mechanism, surely it should actually advise us?
Sorry to labour this point, I know I've said it already in this very thread and that no-one agrees with me, but I'm dull and it's a bee in my bonnet: if there're too many people in the cluster, and clearly there are, for pity's sake add another cluster. I don't CARE about the bloody PCU figure. I care about having a game that isn't straining at the seams. EVE doesn't HAVE to be a single server. Really, it doesn't.
Okay, flame away. For what it's worth, I love EVE, and I've been playing it for over two years. I don't want to quit. But that doesn't mean it can't annoy me. |

Khanid Kingdom. We're amazed to see 10 people in Vezila, and the surrounding areas are an absolute zero. We have horrendous lag.

Lost two Ravens doing Lvl 4's the last few days due to lag I suppose. Warped out just before damage was into armor but continued to take damage the entire time I am warping and end up in my POD at the gate I was warping to. I would love to have weapons with that kind of range, LOL. I don't even bother petitioning for reimbursement because it just adds to the immense frustration. My only recourse has been to remove all T2 fittings and do a cheap fit to cut my loses.

Yay, just lost my Rook full of T2 & faction gear to massive sudden lag.
What really annoys me is that after they added the extra servers and the Ramsan everything seemed to be looking up. My lag dropped immensely, never had a problem. Then they added the Dragon code and everything has been in the sewer since then. I'm not a IT guy but whatever was added in that code was poison and I don't care what CCP say about it fixing "other" issues. Bottom line, Dragon came and the game has had a heart attack.
I really don't want to risk expensive ships like tonight when everything seemed fine then the lag just hammered down. If I had some warning of slowing modules I'd log off for the night. I also don't really feel like going back to doing L2 missions in a T1 cruiser armed with Heavy Missile Launcher 1's because I'm too worried about losing T2's and BS's.

just to add my own views in the last few weeks the lag has been ever increasing getting worse and worse getting the "lost connection" pop-up every now and again.
BUT these last two days i have been in Essence region and MY GOD! i can not log in and do anything, even opening the market and i get kicked. As someone posted before me i thought it was a solo thing an ISP related problom but it has came to my attension that it is all over the place. PLZ for the love of god get this fixed this is game BREAKING.
