Good program though :)

Heya;
Thanks for the brilliant program Gripen!
I just wanted to point out a bug/oversight I found in one series of ships. It seems that for transport ships the program doesn't account for your base industrial skill at all, so the cargo capacity of the unit doesn't change.
I tested this with the two Caldari industrial's and when I even tried to change the skills effecting the ship, "Caldari Industrial" never showed up as an affecting skill.
Cheers!

I'm pretty sure he has said that when an earlier ship must be known perfectly (to V), that the bonuses of a V are already figured in to the baseline. That's why changing it doesn't matter, you are seeing what is possible with an Industrial V and nothing less. I'm not sure I made any sense...

Yeah that one's in the FAQ: --- Q: I found that sometimes when I change the skill responsible for the ship bonus nothing changes. A: Some ships require certain skills at level 5 and give bonuses based on such skills. In that case bonuses in EFT will always be like you have this skill at level 5 even if you don't have it at all. For example you can't fly any Heavy Assault Ship without having it's race cruiser skill at level 5 so the bonuses those ships get from their cruiser skills will be always like you have this skill at level 5.

Just a few suggestions for awesomeness:
- Have the skills auto-update from API on a user selected interval in the same way prices are.
- Consider using http://prices.c0rporation.com/ to query for prices that aren't market groups.
- Look into moving too a new pricing API, Eve-Metrics is gone and Eve-Central is missing several market groups last I looked. (Suggestion: http://eve-marketdata.com/)
Apologies if any of the above are already implemented.
Quoting this for stuff I would like to see. Personally I don't care about the first, as I'm constantly changing my skills to see what a fit might look like, and then resetting them manually anyway, but it wouldn't hurt.
The EVE Faction Item Prices page is a definite I WANT! PLEASE
As for eve-central, yea, it's a really great place, but it does look like it could use some love. The author has always been very quick to respond to questions I ask, and look into bugs/errors I find, but I still get the feeling it's a side project, not a main hobby, so who knows if it might suddenly go down. That goes for any site though, maybe pull from several (all you can find) and average prices? That way if one goes down it won't be that noticeable on the user end, and it might end up with more accurate prices.

I personally would never use a site that places huge download buttons linking to everything but the file you are actively trying to download.
Remember those scumbag wares sites that used to infect people dumb enough to use them? looks like they went into the free download business.
yeah I know, free is free, but the cost to your rep is actually much higher when you use these services

Always use the alternative mirror, and you'll be fine.
I agree with you, though: they should discontinue using the primary hosting link: it's a borderline criminal site, and highly dubious at best. --

The Marauders skill appears to have a rank of 4 and primary perception. The correct is a rank of 10 and primary willpower and secondary perception. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Marauders
So far this has been a great tool. And what I like best about it is that it doesn't ask for the (stupid in my opinion) .NET framework like other tools. Keep up the good work!
I only have one request, if you would be so kind to consider it. When I browse for ships, you can filter out different races. A similar functionality for the skills (filter out skills that corespond to a specific race, e.g. lasers and amarr frigate = amarr, hybrid guns and gallente cruiser = gallente) would be great, since I do not plan on cross training. Thanks.

Edited by: Swynet on 10/02/2011 14:21:09 Using this tool for a few months now (nothing before] and it's only since yesterday that I found how to import my char API. The process seems a little like windows and the button "start" to finaly "stop".
I would submit you the idea of making it more simple like from the top menus: Character: Import When you know how it's quite easy in fact but gosh, when you dl the program you want to start doing stuff with and then you are quicly loss and don't easly find how to adapt skils (via right click on items) or import your char API to apply on the current setup.
The trick being that each and every time you ask "how to" something you have dozens of trolls or no answer. Mabe just add "how to" somehow by a simple top left submenu. I know that must be a big job on the feature but just submiting.

Open the Character Editor, expand the Spaceship Command category and double-click Marauders. Tell me what it says.
And about the request I mentioned, if you look in that list you will see 9 race specific skills for frigate, cruiser, and so on. For someone who trains only 1 race, that's a total of 27 skills that you have to scroll thru. The same goes for Gunnery skills, where each race has another 9 skills. Once it took me 5 minutes to understand why modifying the Medium Beam Laser Spec. skill won't update the damage of Heavy Electron Blaster II's I had mounted on the ship, then I realised I was clicking the wrong skill.

Since the 2.13.3 version I cant seem to find where the new ship fittings are being stored. there seems to be no changes in the ship.cfg files in the Setups folder (even checked it with wordpad), but somehow EFT does remember the new fittings after reopening
using Vista and dowloaded EFT from eve-files.com
where to look for newly saved ship fittings in EFT folder now ?

Funny you should say that- I went from 2.13.1 to .3 directly, and i found some ship fittings were just missing at random.
Some ships I've edited subsequently are retained (and their .cfg files are showing the new timestamp), but others are ignored completely, like a 'geddon I changed last night.

In Vista and Windows 7, direct write access to the 'Program Files' tree under User Account Control is prohibited. Hence, files are typically stored in a shadow directory. On Windows 7, 64-bit, that would be:
C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\EFT\Setups
Edited .cgf files are stored there (and treated as the source directory). --

Not sure if this has ever been suggested before.
Would it be possible to get adjusted DPS numbers based on a resistance layout, much like there is for tanking.

Getting an error when trying to launch the .exe file, something about file name not being correct - both for .2 and .3 version - any solutions?
The program then starts, but you can't do anything within it...
