Originally by: m17624 Well one things for certain CCP aren't to bothered by it and should why would they they have 35,000 subscribers so what if a few hundred can't play its clearly not a problem with our isp's the problem is either server side or a problem with a server that our connections are routed through to get to the eve server.
CCP has to contact those server companies, they aren't going to do anything if a few random people call up complaining when their not even a customer to that company in anyway.
There is only 2 servers that could be causing the problems and I have given CCP the ip address's of both servers,1 of which belongs to them and 1 to a company called Chello.

Aye, Chello is UPC and UPC bought NTL a good few months ago, cant remember the details. When I was onto NTL, I pointed out to them that Chello, which was technically part of their company, might be the source of the problem and asked them to check, so if they aren't fibbing, then they would also have checked it before getting back to me with the "contact CCP" answer.
I've been going back over the entire thread in the last few hours of my sub. Has anybody confirmed that connecting directly to the router (assuming you have a wireless router) and disabling the wireless facility works? I can't do this as the router is in my flatmates room and he's too busy with his own stuff to have me messing about with his computer.
In my last breath of effort on this topic, for folk out there that are more network savvy than myself, could the issue be the keepalive/whatever packets that seem to be the cause of the problem, be somehow getting messed up via the wireless connection? Anybody know of any utilities that can monitor such a thing? Anybody got a devs phonenumber?

I know chello is a part of UPC but both chello and ntl are run independently, ntl's tech support doesnt have access to chellos servers to see if changes were made all they can do is check the route and ping times which have come back fine constantly if ccp called UPC themselves they would get more help then a few irrate customers

Forum link
Check this link out. It also solves the NTL problem. Looks like it is the ISP after all.

I still wouldn't agree that its entirely an isp problem, another eve player fanjita has said "thats fair enough but if my friend logs on at my pc he gets the c++ errors all the time, when i play on my character same pc same connection same client i dont disconnect nor get the errors, seems odd to me."
That isn't being caused by an isp if it was fanjitas account would also be disconnected but his friend logs on and he disconnects, now that is very odd.

Hi Suelle that folder is hidden, what u have to do is go to my computer, tools, folder options, view, and then tick the box that says show hidden files or folders then u should be able to see it. I just installed the tunnel and so far its seems to be working great.

I've got the same problem here, can only play for 4-5min intervals at most when this is happening. Sometimes I can play for hours without disconnecting though. The ISP i'm using is siminn in Iceland, so this problem is not restricted to one ISP if it's an ISP issue.
Been trying a bunch of the suggested solutions but nothing works. Gonna try the vpn someone suggested. ---- Working on a new sig |

From where I sit there appears to be a serious problem in llnew.net (Limelight Networks). My traffic goes into llnew.net in Dallas, Texas, and gets to the CCP IP address 11 hops later. PingPlotter is showing horrible packet loss from ve5.fr4.dal.llnew.net (69.28.171.106) all the way to the target, 87.237.38.200. Once in a great while one of my pings will take a different route, through Level3, and when it does, it gets to CCP cleanly in half the number of hops.

Very interesting. I have a second Internet feed and checked how it routes -- it seems to route consistently through Level3. On the first feed, the one that goes through llnw.net, I have 11% packet loss over the course of 909 pings. On the second feed, the one that goes through Level3, I have 0% packet loss over the course of 234 pings. It looks like I will be able to swing the PC over to the "better" Internet feed and be able to stay connected to Eve.

Ive done this and all thats changed is that while on the wireless router I got 'Status Unknown ' the whole time and was unable to connect to server whatsoever. After i unplugged the wireless I started to get connection only to be disconnected about 2mins later. However sometimes I could stay logged in for longer periods of time 1+ hrs but would eventually CTd. I am also using NTLIreland and have been told that the problem is not with them.

Just got of the phone to Ntl Ireland and they told me the same thing, Its not an issue with them, suggested I lower the resolution to see if that helps.. I suppose i'm just posting to add myself to the list of affected ppl.

Any response form CCP. yet? Or they still say its ours/ISP fault? You sell faulty product sirs, and have no balls to admit that.

I've reached the conclusion it's a mixture of CCP being overly heavy handed with disconnecting "idle" connections, and some ISP's/routes affecting keepalive/whateveryoucallthem packets. In most cases, I don't believe it's because an ISP is throttling EvE or doing anything specific. I don't know enough about networking to suss out what is happening to the packets.
So as far as I can see, the only solution is that CCP lessens the "disconnect idle clients" settings impact (which they most likely won't do as the server load has increased, hence why they upped the setting in the first place last patch) or CCP gets on to isp and providers and finds out why the keepalive data is somehow being affected and implement something to compensate for it.
It's only my view on what's happening, nothing official, but after working so hard to solve the problem it's the only conclusion I can come too.

A quick suggestion: everyone who is having this problem check the number of hops to reach your target. If you have to many hops, it is possible that the TimetoLive variable in the packets being sent is running out, causing that packets to be dropped entirely.

Thank liamie...I have found prefs.ini but when I opened it I couldn't find any option such as : network Advanced=0 to networkAdvanced=1.. I could be blind or thick.Iam not very familiar with computer stuff.

Saw this in one of the many posts on this issue.
When in game, try pressing Ctrl+Alt+Shift+"M". This brings up the 'monitor' GUI with several window tabs - of particular note is the "Network" tab. It dynamically shows you the data packets going into and out of your computer over 5,10,15,30 and 60 sec. This may be useful in showing you exactly when you loose your connection (even though the screen still looks peachy! )
There's lots of other stuff in there that might be of use to some tecchie as well...
btw Got the same prob - in the UK with Virgin ADSL (bad!)

I have found and changed prefs.ini....Couldn't log in. I tryied over 20 times to log my char-no results . This really makes me fk tired. We'll see what's gonna happen 5th.Dec.07 when CCP issues that new thing.
Probably...nothing...
13.12.07 it's gonna be 1 month anniversary when I started crashing....

You must add this line: networkAdvanced=1 on the end of the file if you don't have it in prefs.A lot don't are .

Thanks Amar for the tip :)I did what you told me and I try connect to port 26000 and 3724 and...still nothing. Port 26000 is loading game for ages,I was waiting something like 30 min and I gave up. Port 3724-no respond.
Besides...what can I say : I pay money to play game...I don't pay money to solve problems on me own or with friends from forum FFS!!!.
Is this Salvation Army maybe?.I pay money for charity or what?

One of the lucky ones then
That's why I mentioned that it seems to be a mix of CCP booting idle connections and isp/routes somehow not letting through properly the keepalive packets (that I assume CCP uses) to check clients.
I dunno, as I said it's just my conclusion. Won't know for sure unless we get an official statement.

Had this problem about a month ago! Client continually disconnecting, HDD going mental, but IP connection settings fine!
The cause for me was the Eve cache (located in "My documents/local setting/CCP/Eve"), the main cache ("program files/ccp/eve/cache") and also the capture folder ("program files/ccp/eve/capture"). Capture folder had nearly 5k of log files .
Backed up each of the folders before deleting them, restarted the client & no problems since. Also noticed that since doing this, CPU usage has stabilised, memory usage has dropped, HDD activity is nearly non existent & when viewing the ingame ROT/ FPS / packet monitor, the amount of lost packets are at a minimum.
Hopefully that bit of info will help solve some of your problems.

Btw, it's not about the cache, as I did reinstall eve. ----
