During the downtime today, Sunday 21st September, all players currently located in the Jita system were moved to neighboring systems due to the implementation of a new feature. The Stargate will now check how many players there are in the system and deny access if you attempt to jump into it when too many players are present. In addition to this you will not be able to login on a character if the system has too many players. We have also increased the amount of GMs this evening and if you are unable to login, please press the ESC button and submit a petition in the Stuck category.
This is a temporary solution to this issue, we are working on a permanent feature which has the highest priority and will be implemented as soon as possible. |

…poplimits are very un≡v≡-like, but they have their uses. I'm kind of hoping that "temporary" lasts a very long time in this case… |

So now people can sit idle/afk in Jita all day and keep active players out of the system forever? Excellent idea CCP. No seriously, you have the best fixes for stuff. |

A much better solution would be to add an afk timer (like WoW and every other decent MMOG) that kicks you out of the game when you have not done anything for 5 or 10 minutes. 75% of the people in Jita are afk sitting in a station. |

Then they will simply run a macro designed to refresh a search in the market window. A better fix would be a Max time limit to your stay in Jita (say an hour) that once exceeded simply kicks you to a neighboring systems station and requires you to stay out of Jita for a minimum of 1/2 hour before you can return to it.
Also implement a return limit of say 5 times maximum per day or similiar.

AFK people don't add to the server load, they're not doing anything, so no information to process for the server. |

not quite true. I am sure others can explain it better than me but you take 400 people and put them in Jita and have them be "afk" and jita will lag.

I doubt that is even close to correct.

Without adding a timer to boot people who are inactive for X-amount of minutes, all you've done is effectively shut most of the eve population out of jita forcing them to move on to another smaller hub that doesn't have its own node.

Originally by: "The Scope" Jita is up and running again after stargate technicians worked through the night to perform what is being called an "Emergency Plank Field Renormalization" to restore the gates and interstellar communication to working order. On the scene, we have a Scope reporter with State representatives.
*cut to Jita stargate, where a technician is addressing the cameras*
Reporter: So what happened, exactly?
Technician: Due to the extreme congestion on the gate, two stargate traffic controllers on each end inadvertently sent an Obelisk-class freighter through from each end at exactly the same time. And while it is a tragedy that both ships were lost in the resulting trans-jump collision and annihilation, the huge amount of cynosural radiation that was released as a result of a collision of such massive ships was enough to knock every gate in Jita offline, as well as scrambling all interstellar communications until we could perform the renormalization procedure.
Reporter: I see. Do you have any plans to prevent such a tragedy from happening again?
Technician: We do, but it will take time. In the meantime, as an emergency measure, we have implemented a strict limit on the number of pod pilots that are allowed in Jita at one time. We hope these measures will be temporary, but we make no promises.
Reporter: Well, it seems Jita is back in business, at least for the moment.

Well if every one who normaly goes to Jita piles into one smaller hub then yes. But Jita is Jita because of its central location meaning that only a fraction of the total players who would normaly plug up Jita would be in any one local trade hub.

Edited by: Webster Carr on 21/09/2008 13:55:39 Just a suggestion. While this fix is in operation you may want to make the mission generators check system status so you don't have missioners trying to fly to or through a closed system.

Strongly doubt it is all systems, since Wrangler is stating Jita in the header and the OP seems to be about Jita only.

what about 0.0 systems. what is the current lvl cap? lets just say you have a full fleet plus a few and you are going to a station system are you going to get the only to find out that the owner has pop locked the system and you can only get 50 poeple in you fleet there? these are Major concerns the exploit potenial is large with 14 day trial account easy to get not to mention that most people have 2-4 accounts al;ready there just going to keep everyone logged ion to lock down sysytem when they think there going to get atacked. and the smae goes for the atacker you send 2 fleets with you with most of them in rookie ships sitting in a safe tower then you dont have to wory about poeple able to get in to defend. I think these need to be addressed before anything was done.
Done get me wrong im sure there are big peoblems with Jita and some larger 0.0 fights but giving someone an advantage it not the way to fix this

Well, this looks like original post was edited and it's not about Jita alone anymore? First post says nothing about Jita anymore, also the ingame news has no word about Jita.
Can a GM or DEV clarify this?

Actually MA, I was not in Jita and got the notice that they weren't moving anyone because of the lag in Jita. Nice of you to pop off on those of us not sitting in a 1.0 system and still want to play. We do need an answer as how many is the cap as afk people can basically lock down a system for an indeterminate time then.
