1,400 in Jita
Proves a point though, Lag is rapidly becoming the #1 issue by a wide margin over other issues (it's always been in the Top10 of issues).
Although this is only a temporary issue, I expect numerous 0.0 alliances to take-advantage-of/cry-foul-of this system of locking pilots out of a lagged system.

Originally by: ArmyOfMe first of all, horrible way to do this ccp.
secondly, i find it rather amusing that BOB members are complaining so much over this since there was not a single bob member that complained when bob's capital shipyard was attacked and someone at ccp put a cap on that system so most attackers wasnt able to jump in. its funny to see how fast some ppl forget what they have said once it turns against them
As I pointed out previously, that cap never existed. Go back and check the threads from the time.

Eve played very bad today. It is the worst lag I have ever seen. My characters have been disconnected randomly all day & the lag makes the interface inoperable.
I do hope it gets better.
The thing that will ultimately kill Eve is its popularity unless the issue of lag is given top priority.
Perhaps CCP want lots of people to leave as it makes the problem go away.....for now.

I have 4 accounts..... Usually when in fleet fights, I only log in one. There's many reasons for this, not least of which is the fact that you can't really fight more than one effectively. I MAY on occasion have a scout online, but mostly it'll be one.
Having multiple accounts is very common for the big 0.0 alliances. Many people even have several computers too.
Normally most people do like me, and only play one account at a time, because there was no reason to use more. However, from now on, as the most effective defence mechanism will now be to have all your characters online (with all you alliance mates doing the same), everyone will log in all they have to defend important (and unimportant) systems....
For most of the big alliances it's no problem assembling a 200-300 man fleet. If on average each log on 3 characters, you have 600-900 accounts logged in. This includes your 200-300 combat fleet, and the 400-600 pilots chillin' in the POS.
These are all VALID accounts! How is CCP going to declare doing this an exploit? I pay for all my accounts, and all other people do too. They're valid alliance members too (between 30m and 55m SP). Are CCP going to tell me I'm not allowed to play some of them?
The main problem with a cap is that you CAN'T determine whether someone exploits, simply because of the fact that multiple accounts are not only allowed, they're ENCOURAGED (power of 2...). Are you going to mandate that multiple accounts may not be active in the same system?
This is deemed most stupid idea since ambulation. Best advice would be to halt all further development of EVE for half a year to a year, and focus on getting what you already have to work. For each expansion CCP introduces new bugs, and doesn't fix old ones. Oh sure, they fix the way the Caracal looks *roll*, but year-old playability bugs aren't touched.

Edited by: David Yanakov on 21/09/2008 18:30:44 I would have far more sympathy for the 0.0 alliance whiners if the tactic of mega blobbing a system hadn't already been used with success by the Goons when they took advantage of the jump in priority over log in to force the defenders of JV1V-0 out of their own heavily defended shipyard over eighteen months before this cap even existed. Only difference now is that it might not crash three constellations when it happens.
As for not knowing everything about an emergency temporary patch I can only assume you've never tried to parse six gigs worth of code to see how every line can affect every other. The only way to find these problems is to run the program and find the bugs. This is why we have dedicated bug hunters on Sisi who test planned updates for months before they go live. This was not planned. It is an emergency response to something unforseen and is being resolved as quickly as possible. |

781 in jita, easily able to log in. So figure 800 is limit, and working fine.
People just need to start using regional markets and things will work fine.

Originally by: Vikarion The cap limit is high, a node coincidentally failed (this is similar to other node failures I've seen), and nobody is going to be able to use this as an exploit in 0.0 until we get dynamic load re-balancing, because we'll still get horrendous lag with fleet fights over 400. And the cap is higher than that.
The cap is just a temporary measure to allow us more time to analyse the data from last night and avoid cascading problems tonight. There were 1,400 pilots in Jita last night, Saturday, and the temporary cap value was chosen so only Jita is realistically affected. We were working throughout the night and this morning on this issue and are still at work.
Unfortunately one node died this afternoon (not 30 nodes) but that incident is not related to the temporary capping as far as we can tell. The maximum population in the solar systems on that node was well below the cap.
Why was a rollback done in M-O? After node crash? Can we kindly get our 15+ Battleship kil mails we made before node crash and our ships back that we lost becouse of node crash? Since node crash cosed us to lose advantage we had at start of fight?
It is a nasty surprise to log back in and see 15+ people you just shot down on gate again happily shooting you all over again. __________________________________

Maybe CCP needs to shut EVE down for a month, give everyone a refund or free month and fix all the problems during that time instead of making their employees work weekends and absorb all the abuse from their paying customers?

CCP, graded....
You have been given a A for finally doing something, but an F for game-breaking execution. Why don't you just admit that you need to shard the game because the technology isn't available to not have these game and immersion breaking limitations in the game (which is what they are)? -------------------

It just might be time to split off a shard for EVE if the lag can't be reduced.
I know I know.....but what other REAL choice do we have if we can't play with the lag as it is? Its quite obvious the technology can't keep up with it.

Eve is already "Sharded" it's called nodes, problem is they run too many ss on the same node/server and only one cpu can run one ss.

It's called a crash and not a node reset because it actually crashes. Data is lost and the rollback happens because it's brought back online with the most recent available data. There are no killmails to retrieve. Most people who have been through one of these know that when you log back in you need to be ready to react to anything because it's rarely what you expect unless you were safespotted alone in the middle of nowhere

No, this is not such a confirmation.
Is that a denial then?
Don't mess around Wrangler, we are already annoyed enough without you trying to be clever and hiding behind semantics.
What is the cap? Does it apply to individual systems, or the node that they are running on?
If you don't know, say so. If you aren't allowed to tell us, say so.
All we want is a little honesty, transparency, and respect. Is that too much to ask?

You must be joking. You guys do soo many stupid things to this great game. Its like someone built a great basic game, a great product and then sold it to some amateurs. Is this REALLY the best you could come up with??? Seriously you will lose a LOT of players if you dont set your priorities. Maybe now you realized the game is unplayable if youre not mining alone in an empty system.
Also this is the first time i seriously thought about leaving eve and you amateurs CCP to have your "fun" and ruin it, cause this whole thing is a joke. And i know i'm not alone. CCP you should sit down AGAIN with all the lead devs, and come out with a REAL sollution very fast!!!! We dont care if you dont sleep for the next weeks. Because what you're doing with this lag thing since some months, IS A JOKE! Not letting me log in cause a fleet entered my system? I cant jump cause a fleet entered the next system on my route? WTF?! You must be kidding...

Well one idea that would also be a easy fix to control how many people there are in a system is after so many minutes of being inactive log them off. there's no reason to stay online if you've been inactive for over an hour, for all of you thinking WHAT ABOUT SCOUTS!$!$ , easy just throw a . in a chat somewhere. Most MMOs now-a-days do this and most people are used to it if they play any other game.
PROs
Less people in systems reduce server load you can tell who is and who is not online in your alliance/corp.
Cons
easy ways to get around it no-one likes change, even if it helps everyone have a better user expierience.
P.S. I'm sure this idea has come up before, but there's no reason not to bring it up again.

Originally by: Jacob Mei Am I the only one who thinks this is actually a good idea? Granted in its current form it can be abused but every freakin weekend we get 50+ threads about how someone is stuck in Jita yet when CCP finally takes steps to control the issue, all hell breaks out.
CCP: "Ladies and Gentlemen, please do not go to Jita." "Please friends do not go to Jita." "Please do not go to Jita." "Don't go to Jita." "do NOT go to Jita." "What part of do not go to Jita do you not understand?!" "Okay, thats it, population cap weekends for jita!"
Seriously they have always asked people not to go to that system after it reaches a certain point and are constantly ignored, they finally make a move for the betterment of most of the community on the weekends and people flip out. Newsflash, it isnt the end of the world that you cant go to Jita on sunday for a few hours!
Mate, what youre saying here is totally ok, except this thing is not only applied to Jita. If it is then mea culpa for all i said, but i have no idea why ccp has to wait with solutions until something really bad happens. 2 years... 2 years is a looooooong time of doing nothing that actually solves the problem. Fix the lag first mmmkay?
edit for more stuffs : Don't give me the whole "different server, different dev team" crap. Eve was and is still an internet spaceship game. Since they're doing the whole ambulation thingy to get MORE subscribers I can only assume that
a) They are fazing out the spaceship side of the game or
b) They found a rather large deposit of crack somewhere in the office and are inhaling with wild abandon.
