Hey, CCP. Good work with this Unified Inventory, I actually like it. But here's where you've got it wrong:
The navigation tree should be decoupled from inventory window. Simple as that.
- make it config option whether single or double click opens the inventory window.
- make it config option whether inventory opens in a new or in existing window.
-- best would be if this option was per 'container', at least for 'permanent' ones plus for 'default' (however you define those terms).
Also, whatver you're doing while moving stuf from one inventory to another, stop doing that. I can check prices later but I want to have stuff moved NOW. Besides, since those prices tend to be sooo way off, please make it an option to have them at all.

CCP Guard wrote:Patch notes for today's patch. Some fixes to the Unified Inventory issues people have been running into. I know this doesn't cover everyone's concerns, just posting this in the relevant threads so everyone is aware of the current status.
Unified Inventory
Fixed an issue where the new Unified Inventory would reopen every time a character jumped, docked, undocked or otherwise performed a session change. Inventory window locations that are still accessible between docking and undocking will now remain open. For example a ships Drone Bay, if opened in a separate window. Fixed an issue where players could not edit their Smart Filters. Fixed an issue where Corporation hangars would not load correctly. Attempting to move mixed groups of items into hangar locations that can only accept a specific item type, will now transfer the items allowed.

The uniformed cargo windows, aren't very fun. more confusing, takes up alotta space on my screen (i'm on a wide screen too 19in)!
they are harder to read. most things are washed out and you can't see them. their not remembering their position, size, and state.
I hoep you guys change them back! hehe. |

When mining with a fleet that has orca support, the issue still occurs that when the Orca warps out, everyone who has the Corp Hanger window open has that window default back to their own ships cargo.
Prior to patch, if you had the Orca's corp hanger open, it stayed open when the Orca warped out and when it warped back in, you could go straight back to dropping in ore.
A minor inconvenience but still a step backwards. |

Better , for example :
Shift-clicked - ships cargo , this stays when dock/undock/session changes (nice!) Shift-clicked - Items Hangar , position and size are remembered , but window dissapears when docking/re-docking .
But even having my ships cargo window open at all times makes some tasks playable (for me) |

I rarely post any comments but.. ..the new inventory system is so terrible that I don't even have all the proper words to nicely describe how bad it is.
It wasn't enough that at station I wasn't able to properly handle my stuff - yes, tried to go back to the old system, with small single windows, worked at some level but wasn't still quite the same.. - but then at the battlefield when trying to loot something, holy cr.. ..it felt impossible to check the wrecks quickly enough at a system that is always hot. When compared to the old system it could be done on the fly, staying aligned most of the time etc. but now, gives a headache by only thinking the new Thing..
Bring back the old inventory system. The game is nearly unplayable and I am not happy to play at all as I get stumbled to that all the time. |

i tried, i used the new system all yesterday got the hang of it set up filters etc and i still didn't like it but i felt like i could use it
then i logged off
i log in today and everything i did yesterday? gone, and now everytime i dock/undock the stupid sidebar is condensed to the point i can only see the arrows for the "root"
sorry but i'm a science and indy guy, inventory management is kinda central to what i do and this has just killed it for me, unless this.. thing? is seriously reworked or i'm given the better option of disabling it this is just going to kill my enjoyment of the game so for the first time since i made the account on 21/1/05 i'm genuinely thinking about letting this account and my others lapse
here are my main problems:
my "home" station has 24 containers and 18 ships in it, before the "upgrade" (as the GMs keep putting it) i docked, opened what i needed and job done, ZERO lag, no waiting for a loading wheel, perfect functionality, now everytime i dock i get 4 seconds of black box waiting for it to populate with a lot of information and submenus i simply do not need all the time
before the "upgrade" you pin a window? it stays there, it doesn't resize, it doesn't vanish when you dock or undock, now? it does whatever the hell it wants pinned or not
before the "upgrade" my ships cargo was easily accessed because it was pinned in place above my chat window (which i keep in the lower left corner) it was low impact, nice and simple now? dock and undock and it vanishes, or (and this is my favorite) after being told by a GM what amounted to "SHIFT CLICK FIXES ALL" i shift click, put my ships cargo there and undock, success! it stays in place, so i dock.. and my entire inventory decides to open up in a 4x1 icon large window.. awesome!
the old version? easy to see different ship types by icon, instantly upon clicking ships the new "improved" one? sure no need to click on ships anymore.. you just have to find the one you like in the list, now that's well enough.. except you have to make your sidebar wide enough to see the type of ship at the end which means? so. much. wasted. space.
i get greeted with this everytime i open it after docking (yes I've cleared cache) which is fantastic, it doesn't matter how i resize it or if i pin it, GREAT another window that ignored being pinned - not like you were told that players actually like being able to pin things last time when you removed it was it?
speaking of things you removed, got heat for and then put back, anybody else remember how much heat you guys got for removing the whole double click = ship cargo while docked? well looks like thats gone again thanks to the new "improved" system
i'm not even going to get started on it picking up every single thing in a POS that has a cargobay, that you can't remove things ot set your own folders up in space or that just by it's very design it's huge compared to the old system
TLDR: this inventory system is a poorly designed rip off of file explorer, poorly implemented, with the players ignored YET AGAIN by somebody up in CCP, (did you people just completely ignore the whole "release it when it's ready and not before" thing the players tried to hammer home after WiS?) and if it isn't at the very least fixed or preferably made optional i seriously doubt i'll be renewing any of my subs. and no you can't have my stuff.
Additional note: i can't be the only person concerned that this seems to be a massive backslide to the mentality that was being thrown around at incarna? it's put on test servers, slated, devs/management ignore the complaints / bugs / genuine problems and then force everybody to use it regardless? |

I'm going to go against the crowd and say I actually like the new inventory. Its not perfect yet, but with some more tweaks it'll be great. Despite having a large screen, I hate having heaps of windows up... and inventory windows were my biggest gripe. The left treeview is a feature I've wanted for a LONG time. Filters are an added bonus.
I think players need to understand that changes and new features will never be perfect on launch day. New stuff needs 'teething' time... time to get additional feedback and time to fix additional issues and concerns. CCP isn't out to ruin features and make players angry, they are intending to do the exact opposite. I can say, when you happily release something and feel that your 'consumers' will enjoy it also... then see them raging and hating it can be quite disheartening. What developers really want (and are more inclined to listen to) is feedback offered without all the hate/abuse.
For me, these would be good improvements:
- Add a setting to 'open containers in new window'.
- Add a setting to show/hide treeview.
- Locate 'Item Hanger' above 'Ship Hanger'.
- If an inventory window is open (e.g Cargohold) and the main inventory window is closed, you can't open the main inventory window back up again. You have to close all separate inventory windows first.
Oh and, this may be a bug. I attempted to stack a drone in a full drone bay, the error however says I don't have enough space to perform the action. It should really say, it can't be stacked as no more 'space' is actually being used. |

Fie on thee, industrialists who hate the Unified Inventory. Don't you realize how many more ships will die as they hop a gate, see a camp, and get destroyed as they try to close, then re-open, then resize, then resize again so they can open a secure container, then go back, then remember to shift click to open a new window, then rezise, then arran... boom.
Seriously it's a boon to the shipbuilding economy.
Also server lag as it keeps people from logging in. Win win!

Amazing upgrade to the Merlin. Confused though. CCP spends all this time making the missile systems incredible but then takes all missile slots off the Merlin. I understand that people wanted a gun boat but why not give them the option? Let the Merlin have 3 high slots - 3 missile slots - 3 turret slots. That gives Caldari pilots a choice between their missiles and turrets. |

After a day of playing it, the new inventory system isn't so bad. I'm starting to like it. It takes some getting used to, but it's not bad at all when you get used to it.
But they need to fix the bugs and performance issues. It takes forever to open anything now. With one of my toons who has a lot of stuff in his hangar, it took me 53 seconds to open my ship's cargohold in station. That's unacceptable. I can boot my damn computer up faster than that. As for the bugs and issues, they've been properly documented in the last 28 pages of this thread.I don't think they need to be repeated again. I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they have some really great ideas sometimes. |

My input... this new inventory idea... please scrap it... this feature is just as useless as the walking in stations idea... as all EVE players are aware, you had a ships & items hangar in station, and a cargohold box to use. This feature was already MORE than adequate... The way it is now pretty much ruins the functionality... did nobody ever tell you not to try to fix something that isn't broken? A minor issue is also with active ship not showing in hangar, we want to fix this.
As far as the missiles go, im still yet to see them as my client refuses to load or fix. Please fix the game launcher. I have seen numerous posts on the launcher failing but i have not found any fix as of yet.....
With regards to this new War-dec system, i am only failing to see the benefits for an aggressor. It seems one sided for the defender, which means it lacks balance. In my opinion, the war deck system was good before, it just needed tweaking so that greifers couldnt con an industrial corp into giving the merc corp ISK, then just not helping them. ^I.E. More secure payment method for 3rd party involvement^ I believe this could have been resolved with a simple contracts page to a corp, defining the terms and payment for mercenary involvement. Maybe a limit could be implemented in how many merc corps can be taken on to help, instead of the defender hiring everyone around, which puts the aggressor at a MAJOR disadvantage, thus killing off high-sec war.
Despite these irritating bugs and unfinished mechanics, i still love EVE and believe this is the only MMO worth playing, and also i understand that it will require more efforts to perfect. Thank you for reading |

it is amazing to me that after you read all these posts to the new unified system, the only dev responses are from those who have worked on OTHER things!!! after a major release like this do you not (eve) think it wise to have all hands on deck to deal with any problems???!!! i have never posted in the forums even though i have been playing for a year now and seen all that ccp has done over this time. anyone who has played eve for a day would not have liked this change,, there is no explanation for ccp releasing this junk on us (unified inventory) other than this some how must be needed to make eve work with the whole "dust" thing. well i pay for a pc based on line game... i dont give a F#$% about playstation 3. my 2 accounts expire this month and will not get renewed unless this is rolled back or made to be an option... and ccp. better hope all the players youve enraged this time dont find a game that really grabs there interest while waiting for you to fix what wasnt needing to be fixed in the first place. |

I posted this about the UI in the features discussion section far prior to release in the hopes a dev might catch on and actually read it:
"#158 Posted: 2012.05.13 06:47 | Report I have recently been on SISI doing some things where these changes have been made in the UI already.
If you're looking for feedback on that - as it stands currently please do not implement your changes with regards to inventory.
WHY?
It's very clunky and confusing and clearly not well thought out. No one considered the adage of 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'.
I found moving items I just purchased into ships to be less than intuitive for example no longer being able to double click in hanger in an active ship to bring up the cargo hold of the ship. This method was quick. I found out that I had to drag things into the dumb inventory screen. I get that many people are not organized and need something like this to do it for them. That's not the case for me. This just jumbles everything up.
No item-like representation of all the ships in a current station. I like to be able to quickly glance at my ships in a window i have positioned directly above my hanger inventory window. I can see what I have what is assembled and fitted and what is disassembled and needs fittings. In the new UI inventory screen it is very difficult to ascertain what I have available and where it is without clicking on the assets screen. In a stressful situation (read: living in nullsec) I simply do not have the extra 30-45 seconds it takes to try to figure out where the hell my stuff is. I need to be able to quickly identify assets in it's own window that pertains to locally available inventory only. I do not want to hunt for it in a list of ships on the left hand side of the screen with various drop down arrows.
Speaking of that left hand side panel with the item types (ships etc) if you have multiple drop arrows of stuff - e.g. drone bay and you are trying to move things into your ship's cargo hold it is WAY too easy to drop it in your drone bay instead (which of course as you should you get an error message). This wastes my time.
This needs either a lot of work or the ability to COMPLETELY revert to the original style ala walking in stations."
Again CCP has decided that the feedback (it was generally negative there as well) was not sufficient to reduce the desire of publishing something their subscribers actively resist and don't want. Additionally I am really surprised that not a single dev in the midst of 28 pages of forum posts almost all saying the same thing has not been 'on scene' as it were to quell the concerns presented. The last time this happened I actually un-subbed. But, lo - after enough people did the same CCP came back with a vengeance and asked us old-timers back. Well, we did come back but we did so at a cost and expectation - that we be listened to. That's all. Nothing fancy. Nothing more involved than that. Very simple to follow through on.
As it stands now the UI change has made EvE Online an unplayable game. The same issues I originally discussed and that were mirrored by others were gone unanswered as if they didn't exist and were unimportant nuances not to be stood in the way of by CCP devs. It has taken something that could be great - awesome new content, improved graphics, etc and destroyed them with something that reduces the playability of the game. I had such hope watching ALL of the videos from fanfest sometimes during breaks at work streaming live about the new direction of EvE and CCP. I felt the excitement of a team dedicated to making the experience better. Yet, now, I am again let down.
Yes, I see some players saying the UI change was good and works as intended. However, I simply can't believe that these players have any mass of in-game assets such as an older player would. Of course, it is easy to navigate if you have three ships as opposed to 15 in one station alone or if you just shoot rats and do nothing else at all e.g. looting, production, mining operations - anything requiring more than a 5 minute attention span (what made EvE great previously). What's more it takes far longer to do simple previously rapid tasks such as moving things around - when you can even find what you're looking for.
Now, i'll not be rash and suggest 'i'm so MAD i'm gonna unsub all my non-existent 10 accounts immediately' as many have said. Rather i'll take the more rational approach and again appeal to CCP as I originally did and ask that this be removed, improved upon, or optional. I'll give a time frame of 2 months past my current subscription (a quarter) to get this handled properly. I will not continue to pay for a game on two accounts that I can not use. That's the bottom line. IRL I carefully choose what I do with my leisure time as it is limited. CCP is prompting me to re-evaluate spending that time with them. There are other increasingly more complex and worthy time-sinks out there either available on market now or under development. Look, there are serious consequences for companies that rock the boat with their 'cash cows'. That is what us older players are your 'cash cows'. You exist as you are today because of us. It is unwise to forget who we are, what we expect from you, and what inspires/ed us to play your game. If you forget as you have before the result is quite clear financially. Keep all this in mind please. |

I love the new missiles visuals and sounds, almost lost my Drake last night because I was so busy watching the missile impacts and not concentrating on the battle. Really awesome, fantastic job CCP.
Also I think that the new Inventory system is pretty good. It's nice to have easy access to everything in one window and its easy to drag items into another cargohold or even view the contents by pausing for a second and it shows the contents. Much better than the old system and so much easier to view the contents of station containers.
Glad that the patch today resolve the auto open/close issue on jumps as the was irritating, otherwise all in all I am very happy with the changes.

Not a fan of the new inventory system.
Not a fan of some drones still not having bounties (i.e., Silence The Informant's Elite Drone Parasites).
Not a fan of my ship not wobbling in my hangar like it used to before Captain's Quarters hit the deck (i.e. currently just the camera wobbles-the ship is a static billboard...or brick in suspended animation).
New bomber graphics look intimidating which is nice.
I appreciate my Incursus getting a 4th low slot.
Reskinning of Amarr ships is okay, but shouldn't really be a priority I think. I care more about the engine than the paint job.
New modules are nice so far.
Missile launchers getting their 3D displays is nice. Haven't seen new missile effects since I have them all shut off due to low-end graphics hardware.
You want stuff to fix? Go back to the old inventory system, make our ships wobble in the hangar, add new missions. |
