This ship is a pleasure to fly!
Picked mine up yesterday and fitted it with 4 warp stabs and 10mn mwd to get it home through war contested areas!
Got attacked a few times at gates and had to dock at one stage as there were a few too many war targets in local!
Once I got it home spent ages fitting it out with some gear and I must say this ship is a pleasure to fly went ratting and took less that 1/8 shield damage from groups of cruiser rats..
I was fighting at 5 - 15km to avoid having to run and pick up loot (the thing is a tub)
Looking forward to skilling up a while and finding somewhere quiet to go and test it out fully..
thanks for all the fitting tips!

5 x heavy ML ( I use Malkuth at moment i normaly use scruge but as i get the other one's as loot i loade upp whit them ) 2 x 150mm prototype I gauss gunn ( I use smal hydbrid for frig's i normaly use antimater amo )
In Med:
1 x Large Shield Extender II's 1 x med Shield Extender II's 1 x Named Thermal Passive Hardener 1 x Named rat specific active Hardener (Therm or Kin typically for me) 1 x 10 Mn AB
In Low:
4 x Local power plant manager's: reaction shield power relay I
This results in a shield hp of around 6528 with a recharge rate of 307,20 secs (skills dependent)
In the damage compartment regarding the missil i get steady 120-->192 damage a missil depending on its shield , armor or hull i am pounding .i seldom use my missils agains frigs sins the damage suck bigg .
But my 150mm prototype I gauss gunn can handle the frigs whit ease , but the web's can be hard just whit my rails so drones coms in hand agains them .
my shield seldom gos under 70% but can go down to as mutch as 20% on the hardest lvl 3 missions befor start going upp again. i have never lost a BC after using this combo
I also have 4 light drones and 3 medium drones whit me at all time,i can only use 7 drones
I never have trubble in lvl3 missions whit this combo so good luck trying it oute ........
I have tryd a new combo giving me more shield here it is :
In Hig:
5 x heavy ML ( I use Malkuth at moment i normaly use scruge but as i get the other one's as loot i loade upp whit them ) 2 x 150mm prototype I gauss gunn ( I use smal hydbrid for frig's i normaly use antimater amo )

2 x Large Shield Extender II's 1 x named target painter 1 x Named rat specific active Hardener (Therm or Kin typically for me) 1 x 10 Mn AB
In Low:
3 x Power Diagnostic System II 1 x damag mod
this new combo will dropp my recharg from 307sec -->litle over 550sec butt will bost my shield from 6528--->9300. I have one more PDS II i can put in then my rechar will dropp anoter 45sec and shild will go upp to 9772 shield i havent tryd it so mutch yett, butt i have done the angel and gurista exstravagansa whit it whit no hassel. i consider the black market mission as hardest in lvl3 mission and that one i havent tryd whit this combo.
have funn trying it oute..... all this combos are skild dependend so if u cant fitt the II use I instead :)

Ok I have modified my setup slightly:
High 3x 250mm Prototype gauss 2x Malkuth Heavy missiles 2x 150mm Compressed coil
Medium 1x Large shield extender II 1x Medium shield extender II 2x Cap recharger I (would be tech II but they are 18 mil!) 1x Medium shield booster II
Low 4x Power Diagnostic System II
Because of the cap rechargers, I can keep the shield booster on forever, giving 63 hp/s shield recharge. I can just about tank Black market hub without warping out even once.

H: 5 x Arbalest Heavy, 2 small lasers (or anything that will fit. not important really) M: small Gisti A-type booster, boost amp, 2 x Large Extender II, 10MN ABII L: 4 x PDS II 4 Hammerhead drones does all the lvl 3's solo, without warping out. (for Black Market Hub, just be careful not to have 5 Merc Commanders at once)
run the booster & AB all day with no cap drain =)

I've been doing L2 missions for the longest time. Today, after *I* felt I was ready, I tried my first couple of L3 missions in my Ferox ("finally" as a friend said...I'm now sorry I didn't try L3s earlier :P). I am making the switch from mostly T1 to T2 equip and working on skills ATM to fit it all.
I'm looking for a critique of my setup from experienced, post-patch, T2 missile and shield setup users. I've been working on specializing in missiles and shields so any advice toward that end would be appreciated.
Currently I'm using: HI - 2x125MM Prototype Rails, 5x'Malkuth' Heavies** MED - Clarity Med Booster*, 2x Azeotropic Expanders*, 2 Rat Specific Hardeners LOW - 4x PDU Is**
*T2 "Soon" ** - Have skills and equip, just need to make the trip to pick em up :)
Does this sound like a good all-around setup for L3s in a Ferox? As noted I can fit the T2 Launchers and T2 PDUs now, just need to do it :P Having only done a few L3s (and no "hard" ones (according to this post) yet, advice for Missile Spamming/Shield Tanking specialists like me would be very much appreciated!
Any weaknesses seen for any specific mission? EM seems to be a hole for Angel missions, but I figured swapping in am EM hardener for a Thermal/Kinetic hardener should do the trick...Experience always counts for more than numbers tho :)
Thanks - Pardack

Originally by: ZEU5 TARGET PAINTER! I don't know how to stress this enough. Most of these setups listed that use heavy launchers don't have them. Even with Target Painting 1 and a target painter you can kill the lvl 3 inties relatively quickly with heavy missles.
Well this is true, a good pve setup woul include a target painter.
High slots
5 lauchers 2 double 150 mm prototypes rails
Mid slots
1 ab t2 1 shield booster medium t2 1 sheild booster amplifyer 1 shield extender 1 passive ardenner em resistance array
Low slots
1 balistic control 1 tracking computer 1 magnetic field stabilizer 1 t2 power diagnostic
The problem is that if you want to use a target painter your short 1 mid slot. So to use the target painter you would have to ditch the shield booster amplifyer and switch for a large cl-5 shield booster.
Mid slots
Mid slots
1 ab t2 1 shield booster large cl-5 emergency 1 shield extender 1 passive ardenner em resistance array 1 target painter
In the drone bay 5 medium Vespas are good to have or 2 ogres heavy drones.
For a pvp setup you could ditch the 2 medium rails, swap them for 2 heavy nosferatuh, keep de 5 vespas but with the upcoming patch the drone bay will halved to 25 m3 and with the specs on drones especially resistance and dammage I would go with one heavy Ogre. I you go other wise you will loose drone bay content with medium drones or you use 2 medium vespas and 1 small hornet, but I am skeptical of the real utility of a small drone on a battlecruiser.
On a pvp setup since you ditch the rails, you can get rid of the tracking computer and magnetic field in low slots and fill the low slots with 1 balistic control and 3 power diagnostics. You could also ditch de the afterbuner and replace it with a shield booster amplifyer.

2x Named Nos 5x Heavy Limos
1x Named AB 1x Passive Em Hardner 1x Passive Therm Hardner 1x Shield Boost Amp 1x Large Shield Booster II
2x PDU II 2x Balistic control
Was Finding the damage a little lacking but my skills are pretty lame at the mo so I need a few weeks to get my skills decent for this ship.

try this setup (if you have the skills) HIGHS: 5 XR-2000 heavy launchers 2 small beam lasers thunderbolts/scourge/whatever is appropriate for your targets
MEDS: 1 Large T2 shield extender, 2 active hardners(EM/THERM for angels etc) or (THERM/KIN for gurista) 1 T2 shield recharger OR Sensor booster OR target painter OR AB
LOWS:2 T2 PDU's 2 Shield relays.
AND as many drones as you can carry/use
your mileage may vary with this setup as my engineering skills are all lvl 4-5.
I just used this setup with the optional AB in a medium slot on a Blackmarket hub mission. I purposefully(sp?) agressed the elite fighters/commanders etc at ~14Km. and was able to dispatch them with a minimum 43% shields left. Then Imediately Agressesed the next group without allowing my shields to recharge and finished them off with 60% shields remaining. The Ferrox is obvoiusly purpose-built for passive shield tanking.
NON-hardened setup:
HIGH: Same as above MEDS: 2 T2 large extenders, 1 T2 AB, 1T2 shield recharger LOWS: 2 PDU II's 2 shield relays This works well for all LVL 3 missions where absorbing EM damage NOT a requirement. This setup is also not inspiring for the black market hub mission.
My recomendation for passive tanks: at 30% shields line up to ANY object you can warp to and recall your drones. At 25% shields leave any drones not recovered and hit the warp to button. you should be back at 100% by the time you warp back in. The Destruction of your ship is usually preceeded by the thought,"I think I will try somthing a little different this time...." |

I have a very similar setup to above.
High 3 x Heavy launchers 2 x 250mm rails 2 x 150mm rails
Medium 1 x Large shield extender II 1 x Medium shield extender II 2 x Active hardeners (usually thermal + kinetic) 1 x Shield recharger II
Low 2 x PDU II 2 x Shield power relays
Seems to work, haven't tested it much.

If anyone actually reads all this way for a ferox setup hopefully they realize most of the people here are full of crap....there are some REALLY good setups here though so be careful what you learn from this 7 page alt-fest.
Here is my current setup...
3 250mm rails (carbide cause they are cheap) 2 150mm rails (for frigs they work good) 1 assult launcher (cause i didnt have the grid for another heavy) 1 Heavy (named but not expensive)
Large named booster (the expensive one!) Large t2 extender 80-ish% webber (didnt want to pay to much but probably should have this thing rocks) 2 hardeners (or an AB and 1 hardener)
2 PDU 1 RCU 1 mag stab
My rails hitting with thorium (normal ammo i use) for about 70 every 6 secs (yes the damage looks less than the 5 heavy damage but counting that the turrets get critical hits it kills faster for me)
Be careful with passive tanks because some missions have had my tank (5900 shields and BC4) in armor in seconds and large boosters take more micro-management to keep your cap up but are more efficient than medium t2.
Here as soon as I can fit it, I am going to try a 4/3 or 5/2 250mm rail/assualt setup.

You can use lauchers on the ferox or go with the rail bonuses.
For someone who did'nt skilled his gunnerys the laucher setup is good to get to lvl 3 missions while skilling the gunnery.
No definite setup is better, all depens on skills and what your wallet can affort. Generaly speacking, if you setup is correct either rails or lauchers for the hardest lvl 3 missions then your good to go.
Has of pvp... experience is the best and this means blowing a few ships so the best recommendation for new pilot is to tryout fits ont cruisers before blowing up more costly ships like a battlecruiser.
As you gain experience in pve and pvp you can tag along your corpmates on more delicate operation and perfect skills vs ship setup and alignment in combat operations.
The advantage of a missile setup in pvp for a ferox is that you shoot and forget. For the rails well this need to take in consideration your optimal range etc...
So before going in more complicate combat knowledge is to have in depth knowledge with a rail setup on a Moa cruiser then experience gained can be further expanded on a ferox setup. Same logic applyes to a laucher setup going from the caracal to the ferox.
Personnel experience and trials and errors are keys to to a successful mission run and pvp combat with a ferox.

haven't looked thru all these posts... i'm sure there's a passive tank set up....but here's mine...
5 arba assualt launchers, 2 150 proto rails 2 named shield chargers,1 named AB, 2 T2 shield extenders 4 shield relays
max engineering energy skills with level 4 shield engineering skills = enough energy regen for 5 to 10 minutes of continuoues AB operation. and the BC level 4 shield resists = a very nice tank. took out the 250k Bship npc with 50% shields left.
the assualts may look weak but it takes out the inty's and elites rather well and don't need energy. lol
only draw back is looting.... loot while you kill to save time.

The Painter is still very usefull to do more Damage on Cruiser.

I've just tested this setup in war situation and it works so nasty i'm now gonna continue to do the rest of the training levels for the ferox.
I've gone with the approach of damage over time, and trying to get under the targets falloff as quickly as possible.
High Slots 5 x Heavy Neutron Blasters ( Damage mod 4.25% over 4 secs x 5 ) 2 x Malkuth Rocket Launchers ( rate of fire 3 sec - change ur ammo per target)
Medium Slots 2 x EMP 37.5% AMPS 1 x Thermal 37.5% AMPS 1 x Warp scram - 7.5km Strength 2 1 x MWD
Low Slots 2 x Power Diagnosti Systems T2 1 x Nanofiber Internal Structure makes u 15% ligter hence 15% more acceleration when using the MWD. 1 x Warp Core Stabilizer
DRONES I currently use 4 scout and 3 mediums.
With this setup your notice theres no shield booster. This is true but when your that much damage up close you won't have to worry about it. However this setup is designed to PVP with one other target if you get ganked you an still run.
Currently due to Shield AMPS my attributes look like this
EMP 62% Kinetic 49% Explosive 66% Thermal 58%
The key is to charge at your target straight away but only do so at a 40km range or closer other wize your cap will run out.

Ferox is the ship I do ALL my lvl 3s in, it tanks like a BEAST
This is my SUPERIOR tanked setup! (no big skills needed)
Higslots: 5 Heavy Launcher (named if you got)
Mediumslots: (now comes the magic) 2 Large Shield Extender II (yes t2) 2 or 3 50% active hardeners. 0 or 1 10mn Afterburner II or a Shield Recharger
Lowslots: 2 Power Diagnosticsystem II 2 Shield Power Relay (named that use 0cpu/0grid)
This setup gives you like 8000 shield and rechargerate that makes you recharge like 50-55 shield pr sec.
No shield booster needed, juts turn on hardeners and go up against everything, and win :)
Then ofcourse 4 med or 8 small drones to take care of annoying webbers/scrambler frigs.
All lvl 3s done :)

got some sort of snipe-ox myself and love it to bits n pieces.
5x 250mm T2 (AM - good hits in 36km, opening fire from 49km) 2x SV-2000 Assault Launcher (em/exp light missiles - training for T2)
1x Med Shieldbooster T2 3x Tracking Comp T2 1x Photon Scattering Field T2
1x PDU T2 3x Mag Stabs T2
5x Vespa I (training for T2 ;))
nice to see wreckings in the 400s at just below 40km :)
really nice ship, every L3 mission far too easy (mercenaries can be a pita though). only problem is it's speed, but when you get a fast indy or some expanded cruiser for the loot everything is fine and dandy.

My current setup is as follows:
High: 5 x Arbalest Heavy, 2 x Heavy Pulse lasers (multi frequency and ultraviolet) I use these so no ammo is needed, so carry more missiles
Med: Large shield booster II, Ditigonal Thermal, Anointed EM, Shield Boost Amp, Target Painter II
Low: 2 x BCU, 2 x pdu II
Drones: 10 x warrior (I can use all 10 at once)
I can do all lvl 3, and with modifications I can be good fire support in lvl 4s.
Swap out the pulses for 2 med nos II, and maybe drop the large booster for a med II. Also fit an extender or a 2nd hardner for EM or Thermal resists in place of the target painter.
With the new missile skills mostly at lvl 4 (warhead upgrades lvl 2 atm) my range is around 60 - 70 km with 2 x bcu. For ultimate tank obviously drop the bcu and fit 4 x pdu II.
For maximum damage and range fit 4 x bcu and a sensor booster and you'll be approaching 100km +
Ferox is so flexible and great fun to fly.

Edited by: Feriluce on 27/11/2005 16:48:02 I'm quite new with only 1.1 mill SP and too little Isk, so no T2 stuff.
Hi: 5x malkuth launchers
Mid: 1x large named SB, 2x active hardeners (ratspecific or em/therm for uncertain stuff), 1x amp and 1x named large extender
low: 4x PDU I
With this setup I get a shield of 5243 hp with 622 s recharge time.
This is not meant for Solo missions, but rather for missions or 0.0 ratting in groups, where it will act as tank.I can tank 750k BS's with ease if I get at least a cruiser as damage support, cause it cant break the tanks of the NPC BS's on its own.
You might be able to fit some guns in the last 2 medslots with more skills.
comments plz :-)

Im trying to figure out how I can make my Ferox better for Lvl 2 and 3 missions. I initially designed it to be a shield tanker (if not a low level one) so here is what I have now:
Hi 5 Malkuth Heavies 2 Med Nos
Med 1 Lg Shield Booster 1 Med Shield Booster 2 Hardeners (Depending on target) 1 Shield Boost Amp
Low 3 PDU I 1 Co-Processor I
I swapped out the boost amp for a webbifier to hang the frigs, but what else can I do? I dont have many gunnery skills trained up because I have been in missile boats since I graduated from my Bantam a long time ago. Kessie, Caracal and now my Ferox that is actually decent with guns. Im planning on dropping the Nos for 2 Dual 150 Scouts. What else can I do to more effectively solo on level 2 and 3 missions?

A Ferox for level2s?
Anyway, I'm also using a passive setup right now, which works really great, but it leaves me no room for a scrambler or webber (well, it would, but I kinda feel bad if the shield recharge drops below 50hp/sec).
Active setups are too cap hungry (at least if they have to give the same recharge as a passive setup) and are vulnerable to Nos/Neuts so I don't feel very comfortable with those.

So, there is one common question how to fit Ferox for Lvl3 mission for nub.
Example, I have 1kk main skill(learnings yet another kk ) and begins lvl3 missions having not very good stanfings with agents corp.
How to fit Ferox GENERALLY? Of course T2 items rather out of luck - no money and too much risk. Equipment cannot be insured. Max I could afford named T1 items.
Now by positions High slot 5xheavy launchers? 2xrail or what? Med slots best AB? shield booster? hardener by mission? cap booster/battery/amp? cap booster/battery/amp? Low slot 4xPDU?
Which modifications and for what I will need? For example, how to manage frigates?

i've had no problems running lvl 3s using the following: -5x heavies (either malkuth or limos) -2x 125mm (scout/proto) -1x large booster (c5L) -1x 10MN AB I/II -1x target painter I/II -2x mission spec hardeners -4x PDS -4/5 med drones
heavies slaughter the cruisers, drones and 125mm's take the frigates. Only things that need to be changed occasionally are swapping the painter for another hardener, which seemed to let me tank near on anything. If moving quickly isn't required then the AB can also be swapped out, either for an extender or another hardener.

For NPC I use 4x 250mm named rails, and 3x assault launchers for the friggies that get right up on you and your rails can't touch. With 3x assault and 4+ drones, friggies won't stand a chance. And the heavies don't do much damage against the friggies, which is what I use 3x assaults. Also, Kinetic and Thermal Hardeners. ------------- Awaiting Destiny

Edited by: voguemeister on 10/12/2005 12:45:37 I have tried a few setups on my ferox for lvl3's and this is what iv come up with, done all my lvl3's solo without a problem with it. high: 5 malkuth heavie launchers, 2 t2 medium nos med: 1 t2 large shield booster, 2 mission specific active hardners (personally i use 3 but 2 does the job) cap recharger, target painter. low: 2 t2 pdu, 2 balistic control. 3x med drones(at the mo my drone skills are low soon ill have it up to 5)
useing a ferox for lvl2 missions is just over kill, and believe it or not iv actually lost one doing a currior lvl2 mission. went through low spec space and jumped into the middle of a gurristas fleet worthy of lvl4 gurristas extrav missions. so id advise against it.

which is why you should have used 125s instead of the 150s, and dropped the AB for another hardener. you're not going anywhere anyway, since both of those web you. you can always refit after they're dead if you want to collect loot. a web in place of the painter isn't the worst idea on this mission either, since the eliminators are always in web range.

My PVE setup on ferox :
Hight : 5xHeavy launcher, 2x medium beam laser
Medium : 1xAB , 1xShield recharger , 2xHardener, 1xLarge shield extander
Low : 1xBallistic control, 1xShield flux coil, 2xShield power relay.
And Medium drone in the drone bay :)
It's a passive tank, who regen near 40hp/seconde for EVER. The cap regen is enought for the hardener and the gun. I use medium beam laser cause they got the BEST tracking speed (Very good against inty), and dont use ammo (nice for mission), and of course, you can change the cristal in 2 seconde. It's the best fit i have find for the lvl3 mission, i never need to warpout.

My Ferox has 8667 shield points with this setup and doesn't drop below 50% shields soloing any L3.
