I know CCP Manifest said, "Today." I'm getting impatient. The very idea that this is even a difficult decision, or that it requires any deliberation on the part of CCP is disturbing. I'm not 100% certain, but I'd imagine all it would take is for Hilmar to tell his employees something along the lines of, "No, we are not ever going to do microtransactions that affect game balance. If anyone here has a problem with that, they can turn in their notice of resignation right now. PR people, let everyone know our response." Something like that.
I'll continue to wait nervously for the answer. CCP, don't think for a moment that I'm not sweating bullets over this. I love EVE. The very idea that microtransactions that affect game balance wouldn't immediately be shot down as imbecility has already caused me to question you, CCP. It has already caused me to lose a little respect. That's hard for me to admit, because you're the only game developers that I thought I really jibed with. I've played World of Darkness for about 15 years now, and EVE since 2005. No other games have ever moved me like the ones that you make have. Tell me this is just a result of hiring too vigorously without considering whether or no the people you are hiring actually love your product. I would like very much to trust you again, CCP.
Sadly, I think for me to truly begin trusting you again there would have to be some people within your organization who lose their jobs. Specifically anyone who actually believes that microtransactions which effect game balance could be a good thing for EVE Online within the foreseeable future. Maybe someday when the scientists have invented holodecks and we no longer need avatars or who knows what kind of things have changed, maybe then microtransactions which affect game balance will find a place in EVE. That day is NOT in the foreseeable future, however.
I'd also like to make clear that I have no current plans to unsubscribe. I still love EVE. If it is changed to the point where it ceases to be a sandbox, where it ceases to be a game in which people from all over the world, of varying ethnicities, religions, and tax brackets all have a roughly equal shot at galactic domination, THEN I will unsubscribe. I hope that day never comes.
Thank you for your time spent reading this, and for giving me 6 years (I started in '05) of wonderful times.

CCP, please keep communicating with us here, but be certain that we want real changes in your approach to managing and developing this game. If this takes a day or two to feel the full impact of our discontent and develop a comprehensive response, I for one will wait - and remain un-subbed until I feel that there have been satisfactory changes.

Ive gone through all the pages and only to discover that there is a ****storm going on of epic proportions.
There's really nothing I can add that already has been posted so I'll just bump it and hope for some epic damage control before you have enormous piles of biomass waiting for you to recycle.
good luck

Well here are some of the points that I feel I need to point out to you CCP.
First is that the exsistance of AUR completely negates your argument for PLEX when you introduced it. Everyone asked you how PLEX was any different than just buying isk, and your response was that PLEX kept other players playing in the community so it was not like buying isk at all. Now with this new system, PLEX can be bought for money, turned to AUR and the items then sold for isk. This no longer is keeping anyone playing, it's just putting money into your pocket while negatively effecting the delicate economy of EVE. I fully understand that you are a business and have to make money, but to do it at the expense of the quality of product you make is bad business practice IMO.
Second is the conversion rate of ISK to AUR. This is really way, way off. I know many people have probably pointed this out already, but if these internet spaceships where real, would a new pair of shoes cost the same ammount (if not more) than a battleship? I really think not.
My last and final point, is that Micro-Transactions have ruined a lot of great MMO's. I would not like to see that happen to EVE, as EVE is a great game. Much better than any other MMO out there IMO. However, as with all MMO's the game's survival depends completely on it's player base. If you do not do something, and do it quickly, to repair the damage done, the damage to the game will no longer able to be repaired. I for one am with the masses on this one, if the Micro-Transactions move towards a pay-to-win model (even if it's something you didn't intend) I will be cancelling my accounts and never looking back.

That didn't mention paying for advantage now, did it?

I know this reply will get lost in the avalanche...
The chief complaint is not on the cost of goods in the Noble Market. They were rather astounding and didn't reflect well on CCP's decision making - but it does not impact on the game.
I also don't think Captain Quarters in itself is triggering all the rage. It is a little limited and not perfect, but it is a first step and has potential.
I think the primary complaint is that you are forced to be in Captain Quarters, which (not unexpectedly) has a noticeable performance hit. This is particularly noticeable for all those players who run 2 or more accounts at the same time. I personally want the option to step in and out of Captain Quarters when I want - but to retain the original ship spinning docking interface, which had much lower resource requirements. I think people would be much happier with Captain Quarters if they can use it on their own terms.
Regards the frenzied flood of rage... there's a bit more going on here than just the price of vanity items. A hormonal EVE player base, a mob mentality, some trolling, and a few too many CCP PR slip ups, and you have a perfect nerd rage storm.

CCP, I don't have a problem with the cost of the NeX items. If they are too high then I won't buy them, easy as that. The problem as we all know now is that in one of your news letters some of your employees talked about extending the NeX to include items that could be used for actual gameplay changes. Such as ammo that hits harder, guns that track better or fire faster, ships that have better attributes, etc. than normal player created items.
This becomes a problem when someone can buy better items with their credit card than I can making or buying items on the player driven market. I know you will say that all of these items can in turn be sold on the player driven market for ISK but we all know these exclusive rare purchased items will be more expensive than rare items that are already traded in game.
The original purchaser of the items using his AUR on the NeX market now has a much greater advantage than the player not buying with AUR and using his ISK. He has to spend his time making that ISK before he can buy that item while the player who bought it with AUR is already blowing up pilots with his shiny new ship and mods. "Pay to win" is not something that we need in EVE.
This disadvantage is what most players are scared of and do not want to see happen. If you can somehow convince us that this won't happen, through a dev blog, uploaded video, or live stream, then you will keep your community. If not then you will see a huge drop in your subscriptions, I bet you already have.

I dont think you managed to really understand what the uproar is all about.
How about this:
Put a vote up on the "Ad displays only once"-place in the login screen:
1. Shall CCP remove all microtransactions from eve forever? Yes/No
2. Shall CCP keep developing games towards the playstation demographic? Yes/No
3. Shall CCP focus on implementing features the player want or features the game designers want? Players/Game designers
I'd like to see that. I really would.

I have a hutch, just a huntch, that CCP may have noticed this link by now.
I dont think they have
They have and they've (select one):- run from the building screaming
- are in the process of committing suicide (please don't J/K here)
- laying catatonic in a corner of the room until the bad world goes away
- are actively trying to overthrow the greedy mother****ers that have infiltrated CCP's very core
Oh and to satisfy the spelling **** in me: h-u-n-c-h, an idea based on experience but not backed by fact. A "gut feeling". Also the thing you do just seconds before taking a dump which is a different type of "gut feeling." {WC}PistolPete "...going to take a lot of fireworks to clean this place up..." Homer Simpson |
