Edited by: Jose Chung on 25/06/2011 01:44:07 I apologize if the contents of this post are moot, having already been addressed by CCP. The sheer volume of forum activity generated by the fecal vortex of the last few days precludes my ability to keep up. I have only just read the most recent dev blog, and this is my response.
In the Fearless article, "Delivering the goods: virtual sales in Incarna," written by Scott Holden we find the following quotations:
"Not all virtual purchases will focus on customization: some will simply be new items, ammunition, ships, etc. that can be purchsed outright."
and
"One other service we're looking at is selling faction standings."
As noted above, these quotes aren't from the feature "Are virtual goods sales in EVE a good thing?" which can fairly be described as an exaggerated internal discussion on the merits of micro transactions. This was an informative article describing CCP's the intended plans for the game. The article blurb plainly says, "Specifically, how will this strategy unfold in Incarna?" For Zulu to then say, "They are not CCP policy nor are they a reliable source of CCP views as a company," borders on dishonesty.
While I do not agree with the attitude of many people who called for various persons to be pilloried, tarred and feathered, immolated, or forced to endure a back-to-back screening of The Human Centipede and Margaret Thatcher's most recent sex tape, the reasons for their anger and frustration are at least somewhat justified.
It has been an internet eternity since a multitude of issues came to light, and the response from CCP has yet to attain the status of lackluster. The primary concern repeatedly referenced in the epic thread started by CCP Pann has yet to be addressed to the satisfaction of the player community, in spite of it appearing easily over 100 times in huge yellow typeface: Are you moving beyond VANITY AUR items? I would add as a follow-up question: Is it the intention of CCP to introduce skill point and/or faction standing increases to the exchange, as has been alluded to?
I love EVE. I've got more than 5 years of effort and resources invested in this world, and I would hate to see it destroyed through a bad business decision resulting in unbalanced play, a player boycott, or worse, player apathy. EVE has been more than a game to me, it has been a hobby - a labor of love. I want what is best for New Eden, and I lament that the mutually beneficial relationship between CCP and the player base has been poisoned over the last three days. I urge CCP to be more forthcoming before the dosage reaches fatal levels and a critical mass of players decide to take their time, energy, and money where they think it might be better utilized and appreciated.

So what's their plan now? Silence until the weekend is over and hope it dies down? Have their been any CCP replies since Zulu said he was only talking about two things in his devblog?

I'm going to go with Helicity's and Mittani's view that if you said "ammo and ships and faction will never ever be on the NeX" 95% of the controversy would be over and done with.
Also, I would be utterly astonished if that devblog-PR-nightmare-from hell wasn't written with a good does of insomnia and alcohol.
TBQH, fanfest is going to be incredibly awkward next year.

I guess that we are done for this weekend. No one at CCP will come and talk to us during this weekend. We need to gather together again in the monday and make some noise, closing Jita and Amarr again. For now lets grab some beer and celebrate our power.

dear ccp
please do not mis-interpret this "up raising" as an issue with real money for items, . it is about the CRAP service you have been providing.
1) stop making us pay for development of dust/ wod code. 2) don't use delay tactics 3) improve your game, . make it work, so that you can - 4) improve your GM's response time and policies at current, they are useless.
In short, your game is in poor condition --- that would be forgiven if the ship was sailing the right direction, but it is not.

When will we get answers from the CEO instead of having Hilmar and the board of directors/investors set up straw men?
CCP has lost all touch with its player base and is sacrificing some of its historically nicest and most amiable employees.

hopefully eve-radio's right... maybe the blog was written by committee and they threw Zulu to the wolves...
Zulu, if so, I feel bad for you...
If not, you deserve the full barrage of DDs, 1400mm arties, ion blaster cannons, civilian blasters , and whatever else the community decides to target you with. =========================

Listening to Eve Radio atm... but honestly I'd imagine Dust 514 will pretty much have to be financed via P2Win Micro-transactions. So they can't exactly tell us ~today~ that they're adding game-altering MT in the future, because anything that affects that game will affect Sov warfare in Eve online.
Sadly CCP really screwed up the deployment of MT... on so many different levels.

Having a fanfest would imply that Eve is still up and running and/or CCP is still an ongoing business concern.

I'm sure most of the player base knows this already (especially those players that have seen this happen in other games before), but for those that don't know this is the deal...
Micro-transactions are going to happen - its a done deal. I'm not stating this from some secret inside source, just from the fact that every game that has ever introduced MT's into their game (when they didn't previously exist) has NEVER backed down from doing it. So accept it, its going to happen.
Over a year ago, at the Sony / EverQuest II fan fest, they "brought up" the topic of "testing" free servers and introducing MT's for expanded content. During that fanfest, they specifically stated that they wanted input from the player base - they wanted their opinions and such to see if it was a feasible thing to look in to doing. Basically, no one wanted it to happen, and Sony kept saying "we hear you". In the end, they rolled it out anyway, almost as a surprise b/c right up to 30 days prior, they were still telling the player base that they were not doing anything drastic. But once they did announce the change, they basically gave the same canned responses that CCP ZULU gave earlier. Why did they do that? Because it was a done deal, its about the money and they weren't about to change anything that they had been spending months implementing (when they said they weren't doing that). Keep that in mind, everything CCP ZULU said is not b/c CCP doesn't care about the player base (though it really feels like it), it's because they have spent so much time working on Incarna and all the bad stuff they rolled out with it that they can't turn back now, it would work against all their plans for the next several expansions. The players will have to adjust to CCP, so adjust or leave...
CCP is not about to make any changes, they will follow through with this as they plan. More than likely, they will "reduce" the pricing on some items, or just make even cheesier items to sell cheaper. The point is, they want money, and they are not about to scrap a system that they have spent months preparing that they just put in place. Do you really think that locking down Jita will get them to reverse their game plan? They intentionally introduced another "layer" of currency for these vanity transactions - do you think they would scrap that currency and allow players to just use ISK? It's not going to happen, it will never happen, so stop asking or hoping for it.
It comes down to what the player base of EVE online will do. The player base needs to decide what to do OTHER than protesting, and that answer is simple:
Cancel your EVE accounts and send them a message the only way that CCP will hear it - in the wallet. Its up to every EVE player in the game, they have to decide for themselves if they wish to continue trying to make CCP listen, or if they would rather just leave the game and find another game that won't bend their player base over for Micro-transactions...
Personally, I started playing EVE b/c it was cool, but it seems much less cool at this very moment, so I think I am done. To each his own, but maybe it's time the player base moves on and we let CCP settle into the "DUST" that they are reaching so hard to achieve...
