That was worth reading, thank you.
I think it's a little hyperactive. Like I said; skepticism and caution are fine and healthy, but the conspiracy theories and spin doctoring is making people look rabid and unstable. Things are tense enough around here without wandering into the mix with gasoline and fireworks.
I agree with you. I found however this particular fictionalised writeup of the current situation was elegant, and stuck out of the sea of shrill complaints and tinfoilhattery. https://aerethir.wordpress.com/ |

Quote: ...I promise weÆll start getting some info out tomorrow. As I see it, the chief complaint is regarding the high cost of goods in the Noble Market. Second, many people are unhappy about the CaptainÆs Quarters. Third, there are some performance issues with Incarna. I would appreciate it if you would confirm my observations or tell me what IÆm missing, but I do ask that you do it in a productive way. I will remove posts without prejudice if they are counterproductive to the conversation I hope to have with you.
Been ruminating about how to respond to your request for a parley. So here goes:
1) Captains quarters makes me fear for the life of my one laptop that can run EVE online. It was able to run 2 clients well, and 3 in a pinch, but if I turn on captains quarters, I can run a single client, and normally just undock in something with a cloak to prevent risk of fire. Turning off the special CQ effects leaves me staring at a door which currently goes nowhere. It's like you are trying to point out some sad allegory about my future with EVE Online. I don't get to see my current ship, and the inability to easily click on it directly to open the cargo bay/fuel bay/SMA/Drone bay is a bit off putting.
2) The complaint is not so much about the price of the items, which are silly by the way, but the feeling that CCP have decided to milk subscribers dry by pricing things so exorbitantly...perhaps in expectation of creating a gold ammo/ship store. The moment EVE goes to a pay-to-play model for items that are more than cosmetic is the day I cancel my subscription. Sadly the handling of this situation has caused a large number of my old friends in EVE to end theirs already. The fact that as a company CCP hasn't outlined a philosophy on the future of such transactions has me worried. We are only receiving comments about the past and present framework. Does the company have a vision for the development of this product? and if so what is it?
3) "I promise weÆll start getting some info out tomorrow." I know that RL & Family >>>>> EVE. I don't blame Pann for taking a break from thread management, no good person in this thread does, but the inability of any other members of CCP staff to step to fulfill her commitment during a reasonable family emergency to complete what I see as a company promise is very disconcerting. Is there only one semi-retired community manager capable of talking to the player base in all of Reykjavik, Atlanta, & Shanghai? Are the PR and Community teams truly paralyzed in her absence? Right now you are losing subscriptions and I am losing friends to play with and targets to shoot.

IT'S A YES OR NO QUESTION.
ARE YOU GOING FURTHER THAN VANITY ITEMS IN THE NEX?
You guys have surely discussed this a lot already, given the newsletter (and other means of communication) so I don't see what's so ****ing hard about just replying YES OR NO.

Poasting in a thread that proves that Consumers still have power and push industry in the direction of Consumer not industry desires.
CCP let this very negative PR and costly customer loss be a lesson. Listen to what your customers want. Thank the stars that Eve has a strong community because it is only the community that holds this game together as it stands. Crisis maybe adverted to soon to tell CCP Hubris is ever arrogant and constantly needing humble pie. ________________________________________________

Originally by: Luckytania A decent write up on TenTonHammer by Mittens: a banal discussion
However, I did take strong exception to part of it. Enough so that, IMO, it raises some concerns as to how well this CSM rep will make the case at "The Meeting". And, yes, I did register there just so I could make this comment:
-- "Yet when looked at with a dispassionate eye, the leaked newsletter is mostly banal discussion of the existing microtransaction trend within the games industry."
I can't agree with that. Pages 5 through 7 can be characterized as you have. And possibly with that "mostly" you are technically correct. However, Page 9 of that newsletter is where the rubber meets the road. And it doesn't read like a 'what if' or 'let us chat about this'. It is a clear statement of 'this is what is being done'.
Written by the "Director of Content Design".
"CCP is in the process of adopting a virtual sales model for its game products. While this model has always been intended for World of Darkness and DUST 514, you may be wondering how this will work in EVE Online. Specifically, how will this new strategy unfold in Incarna?"
"Not all virtual purchases will focus on customization: some will simply be new items, ammunition, ships, etc. that can be purchased outright."
"One other service weÆre looking at is selling faction standings. We want to offer convenience for a price."
Typical mittens tbh........

Evil Idea?
Everything CCP have done with Incarna is done to attract new players. This is what CCP is betting on, that the NEW players are more willing to bye into the macro-tranacions and the Pay2Win aspects, and that the number of new players outweigh the number of old ones quitting.
EVE still have one hell of a learning curve. I have no idea about the statistics, but I still have the feeling that a fairly high number of new players don't go much beyond the 2-3 week trial period.
Solution, Denial of Service. We as the lovely and somewhat welcoming/helping community should take a page out of the CCP playbook. If they want to be like other MMO's, so shall we.
To do this we must take the Pirates Handbook to heart:
- Stop being helpful towards new players. Unless being helpful means getting an opportunity to blow them up.
- Give new players a seriously hard time.
- Grief, cheat and trick new players into early retirement.
- Can flip new players at every opportunity, and kill their mission objectives.
Of course, we must do that within the rules, as we do not really want to be banned. We can't grief new players if we can't play after all.
We players are advocates of the game we play, CCP are being b*tches about it, so shall we. And from a certain point of view, we are saving the new players the grief of dealing with CCP in the long run.
If CCP don't get enough new players to offset the ones quitting, maybe they'll get the message, eventually.
Either that, or the actions will give EVE the Coup de grGce it deserves before CCP screws it up any further. I'd rather have EVE die now, with fond memories, than the disgrace it is being turned into.

CSM is already AGREEING TO NON VANITY ITEMS I'm going to click YES to all NON VANITY items. Hope you enjoy the ride.
This means nothing, its not a CCP site, its not a genuine CSM forum.
The CSM will take none of the results from the polls on this site into consideration for the simple reason that anyone on the internet can post there not just Eve players....

[12628]
After the crappy coding in the Captains Quarters killed the sound portion on my Motherboard by turning my eVGA 9800 GTX+ Super-clocked into a 105C Blast Furnace (it ran at 60C before Incarna BTW), I have been without a 100% running system to get into the game for any length of time that would be considered normal.
Sure I can get it to finally boot after 20-30 attempts (after disabling on-board sound in the BIOS), but it completely locks up my system anywhere from during boot to a couple of minutes after getting into Win7. It's basically a race to get it to boot, log into eve and Que up a skill quick before it locks up. A new mobo is in route from NewEgg to replace this one that no longer will play any sound, and then I'll be able to swap out the toasted board.
Thankfully I modified my Video Card by pulling the stock heat-sink/fan shroud when it was new and put high end thermal compound on it instead of the stock thermal tape. I'm still in amazement that my video card wasn't killed by that much heat. However I'm certain now that it's lifespan was shortened by such a runaway thermal overload.
BTW... My Voltage Monitoring Software shows that my 9800 GTX+ is using 250 watts of power (basically maxed out) when running a single instance of the Captain's Quarters. Before the Incarna patch, running two clients, it was using about 205-220 watts of power. So the coding for the CQ is working the video card MUCH harder!
