However I have to ask
1) Why do you never listen to your players 2) Why create the CSM when you never listen 3) Why do you not listen to your own staff 4) Why do you for the past few years bring out increasingly poor expansions 5) Why do you never communicate to you paid players about whats happening in the future, but then we have to read it in a magazine first, do you not think thats a little insulting. 6) What is CCPs vision for eve n the next 5 years? 7) Do you know that you are alienating all your players?

I do think itÆs vitally important that CCP is prepared to listen, because this scandal over microtransactions is probably the most potentially-damaging scandal CCP have ever faced in a fiasco that easily eclipses T20, "Kieron" and ô18 monthsö without breaking sweat. The credibility of the game is at risk here unless we put the doubt and distrust to bed.

I never got to experience any MMO company self destructions before
Now I am right in it :)
It's awesome fun to see a company destroy itself, really it is,
The fun part is, the people running the company just cannot see it.
The next thing on my list of TODO's is to watch a real live train wreck to compare it.

Originally by: oniplE We all know CCP and how they communicate, we don't need the answers, we already know what they're going to say. The following devblogs are upcoming:
1) Aurum prices are not final and will be lowered if necessary.
2) The internal memo is not to be taken seriously: its purpose is to incite discussion among employees and none of the disturbing plans inside are actually plans. No solid promises will be made, there will not be a "We will never sell non-vanity items for Dollars" statement. A typical CCP devblog that evades the issue at hand, but does calm most of the people down. Crisis averted.
Then there will be a series of non-issue blogs that smother the discussion about the first two dev blogs: 3) Incarna performance will be looked into. 4) Some devblog on the coming iterations on CQ features 5) "We do have plan for Spaceships-Online": some token plans for features are shown.
At the very best, and to be honost I think the chances are slim, Captain's Quarters will be made optional and the original Hangar view will be restored. This is the only real change you can hope for.
This is what I expect honestly.

Dear CCP,
I've been playing this game for a little over two weeks. Yep, that's all. I played the trial for 4 hours, and promptly subscribed - I thought it was THAT good.
Then Incarna came.
CQ is a bit crap. Sluggish, dim, graphically unappealing. I turned it off. But I miss the hangar. I never indulged in ship spinning; gimme a chance to do it. At least give us the option of the old hangar or CQ.
The store. I pay ú15 a month, I'm not going to spunk any more of my hard earned cash on a monocle or a new pair of boots that I'll never even see. I suspect the prices are deliberately high; when you introduce better, Aurum-only equipment, you suspect that your subscribers will think, "Wow, only half the price of a monocle, I'm having that!".
Don't treat us like idiots. Don't think ANY of us, as much as we adore the game, are going to splash real-life cash on Aurum-only equipment. Your player base is more mature than the majority of other MMOs. We have real life commitments, bills to pay. A lot of us aren't 18-20 somethings with a lot of disposable cash, who will willingly splash out on a 50-euro pretend spaceship with more pew-pew.
Most of all, don't lie to us.
I've only been playing two weeks. Despite Incarna, I still think the game is something special. But I won't be treated like a dumb sheep by you. I won't be lied to. Sort it out, or your player base is going to drop significantly, and you'll be reduced to peddling Flash based space invader games on Facebook in no time.

CCP have shown they are interested in money more than in the respect and opinions of their paying customers. As such we as a community have an opportunity to get a message to them very clearly.
To all the people saying they are un-subbing their accounts. Go and un-sub them. We will be sending them one of two messages today. The first, if we SAY we are un-subbing but donÆt, will be that we donÆt actually care and they can do or say whatever they like and we will continue to pay. The second, if we actually go and un-sub, will tell them in no uncertain terms that this is NOT ok and we arenÆt push-over n00bs to be trifled with.
Again, go and un-sub, when the CEO comes into work to find even 10% of accounts have been un-subbed they WILL reply and they WILL consider the repercussions of making changes like this.

4. The leaked CCP newsletter is deeply worrying because it does appear to break promises made by CCP to the CSM (and via them to the wider Eve community). It shows massive disrespect to our community and makes it painfully clear that Eve players are simply viewed as a cash cow to be relentlessly milked to fund other ventures.
The PR damage from this leak is immense in terms of broken trust and hurt feelings and it will take more than simple apologies to repair û I think the Eve community will need to see and be convinced that these terrible ideas will be abandoned so we can return to our subscription-based sandbox unthreatened by Gorden Gecko and his macro-transactional madness.
I believe you need to re-engage with Eve community via the CSM and devblogs, developer-chats etc and actively win us back at this point. I certainly need to hear that you are turning from the destructive path of greedy money-grubbing microtransactions for everything with one hand while you continue to take my subscription money with the other. I need to get my faith in CCP the company back.
5. Finally, the principle that microtransactions could be widened to include balance-breaking advantages for cash payments on top of the subscription is simply untenable in this environment. The impact of doing this will be many lost subscriptions to the perception you are double-charging people for content and breaking the gameplay integrity of the single server environment. You will spoil a gameworld that has been eight years in the making as the Noble Exchange has already begun to spoil our sensation of the sandbox and as the rushed incomplete terrible-looking CQ has damaged our collective suspension of disbelief.
If you must go down this route then Eve will eventually need to go free-to-play and you will have to exist entirely on microtransactions for everything. But I think we both know this is not going to fly. I strongly advise you to take the message back to the management that if you are short of cash simply look at upping the subscription fee rather than messing with the sandbox in this destructively short-sighted manner.
$70 dollar monocles or ôgold torpedoesö will not bring the crowds flooding into Incarna. People join games because they are original, accessible and fun. That is why World of Tanks works û not because the developers there are offering bling tank-decals for premium bucks!
CCP already have a unique IP in the worldÆs biggest single-server science-fiction simulation sandbox. Stop trying to copy the bloody fairy sparkle ponies in Wow! Put your minds back on Eve Online front and centre and finish the content we need finishing and stop trying to force-feed us with microtransaction-delivered immersion-breaking rubbish. You have a loyal and passionate player base right now. Work a bit at keeping us.
Monocle-gate has made CCP the laughing stock of the gaming industry.
Listening to the player base and stepping back from the egotistical insanities of the "greed-is-good" brink will be the one thing you can actually do that deserves to be called ôfearless" at this point.

Just want to add my voice to those expressing concerns here.
I have been playing now for around 6 months and the game is great. I like the idea of Incarna and the CQ when it is capable of interacting with other players and actually adds some game elements.
The thought of adding MT items that give in game advantage is a step too far imo.
I also did not like the tone of the leaked document at all. It smacked of arrogance and a total lack of respect for the people that pay your wages.

Originally by: glepp Ok CCP, since you said you're reading everything in this thread, here goes.
I've cancelled 2/3 accounts, and will be cancelling the last one as well. All run out in sep-nov, so that is the time window for me to get interested in the game again.
Why am i unsubscribing?
1. I don't like being lied to. You said to the CSM and us a few months back that Microtransactions would only ever be for vanity items. You lied. You are not only discussing it internally, you're implementing it, as confirmed by Scott Holden in your internal newsletter.
2. Microtransactions for non-vanity items will ruin the sandbox. The PLEX system is good, because it deals with RMT, however game-imbalancing it may be. I can accept that. What i cannot accept is that in a player-driven sandbox, you introduce non-player made items that give an advantage, available for RL money. That goes against the very basis of the Sandbox idea, and will ruin the game for me.
3. Forcing unwanted game elements on your customers because you want them to be Awesome. Captains Quarters suck. They make it harder for me to use your actual content, internet spaceships. I don't want to watch my characters bum in station, i want to be out flying. You're making that harder. If Incarna and CQ at some point becomes awesome and adds content to the game, then people will use it. Don't force us to watch your stupid space-barbie showcase when it adds no content to the game.
How can you fix this? 1. HTFU and admit that you lied, and apologize so I can believe you. 2. Confirm once and for all that EVE will have no microtransactions for non-vanity items. 3. Make CQ and Incarna optional.
Don't do this and lose your cash cow. If you don't see the writing on the wall, then you deserve to failcascade and die along with the other failed MMOs.
/Signed. 2 of 3 accounts (so far) unsubbed, 3rd on the edge.

re-posting from another of my posts as this thread seems to be getting Dev attention.
My previous comments on various threads have been fairly tame, but now that the newsletter has been confirmed to be legit, I don't really know what to say. A company newsletter has a wide distribution, and copies can easily go astray, so it was horrendously naive to think that this storm wouldn't kick off given the past history MTs have had with the players.
At least Zynga are upfront about it.
MT for cosmetics is fine, but I won't play a game that has MT pay to win. Eve hasn't reached that stage yet, but given the style of the game, I may as well get off now and not waste my time in the interim. If you say it won't happen, give me a reason to believe that the lead game designer won't implement his wishes.
Lets look a bit deeper, with (maybe) a bit of tinfoil. This was the reason visibility of other players' standings was removed. All the fluff about performance was a blind. This is why the industry expansion never materialised- with MT ships/ammo, it would have been a waste of development time. Mining update- same. What else has been shelved because MTs would make it not viable?
Originally by: sales pitch Why use all those clunky interfaces and spend hours mining, when for just one small* payment, you can get the [item] of your dreams.
*CCP has also told it's customers that $50+ should be considered micro.
MTs won't affect gameplay? It has already affected unrelated systems by having them removed and depriving them of development time. ______
