OVERKILL when you kill something in a single volley that does at least a hundred times the amount of HP the ship has. |

I hope the dynamic 500/20/whatever track-sequence mixing thing being null-sec only is a test, and that if it works out allright, something similar will be implemented for low-sec, high-sec, wormholes and during combat missions.

Being a self-important audio engineer myself, is there anyyyyy chance CCP can enable an HQ audio option? I simply cannot stand the 128kbps mp3 compression applied to the music, as I usually play with head phones on.
I realize this would eat up some computer processor/ram stuff, but as with graphics, it'd be nice to have the option.
Also, remix competition on a song. My vote is for Below The Asteroid. |

Music is compressed by a modified .ogg encoder provided by our sound engine and I use much less than 128kbps
Changing the compression would mean bigger client download, it should cost the same processor time to decode and no RAM since all the music is streamed from the harddrive. |

Of course. We have a prototype of the combat mission music. *tease* |

Very cool - Eve needs more warning sounds.
We need warnings for when you get pointed, webbed, neuted, disrupted, MWDs shutting down, etc etc.

apart from that excellent blog. We had a video but it was from a broken build where you couldn't really see what was going on, we decided to release the dev blog rather than wait for a new video. We'll try to get something out to you, -if that fails, you should hear it on patch day! |

Panhead4411 wrote:You also added some annoyingly repetitive sounds...
Undock sound Dock sound Initial NPC aggression sound End of NPC aggression sound "New" Stargate sounds still just sound like broken TS or Vent noises.
Just to name a few...and these all stack on top of each other, if i undock while still flagged with NPC aggression i then get both new sounds...
Also, would it be possible to give us an option to turn turret sounds UP...currently in order to hear my turret sounds i have to have the environment sounds to a point where the VERY repetitive NPC rat sounds get extremely annoying. Also, with the volume at the level needed to hear my turrets shooting, while avoiding the even more annoying and very repetitive active module noises, it would be nice to have a "station" volume option, so we don't have to keep turning our volume up and down constantly.
There should be no docking/undocking sounds.
As for the aggression timer sound that is a bug. |

Comparison videos for the turrets are nice, but can we get some samples of the new music? Tease us please! |

I'm really not particularly fond of hearing the planet sounds from space.
I'll wait and see, well, hear it on test server before stating any final opinion, but I'd rather not feel like I'm flying in the atmosphere when I am obviously not. |

As I listen to the music now though (on sound cloud), I am reminded that all things change, and Eve should be no exception.
My sincere hope is that the music team can come up with tracks of the quality that these old legacy tracks had. Bash the old music all you want. It has been there for a long time, and I've always loved listening to it. I'm glad that the option to listen to it in the cloud is there just in case the music team cocks it up. Actually, I think it would be great if we could hear more samples as they are developed from the music team. You could put those on sound cloud too.
Weird, my client will always plays "Miner Stories" first.
All the old music still plays in hi-sec, and different songs for different situations/locations. Try to hear them all. |

Just out of curiosity.. Does anyone know the lore behind eve sound?
Since obviously sound doesn't travel through empty space.. Is it virtually generated in the pod? I'm not much into the whole fluff thing but i'm curious. |

"As you know there is no sound in space, but when we were developing the capsules we found that people wanted to use as many of their senses as possible, thus we added the sound. By letting a computer create three dimensional sound we also add to the awareness you have while in battles, for instance."

Ah, for some reason, I read that the music itself - not just the system of presenting it was changing... Teaches me to read dev blogs before my coffee has had a chance to cool a bit...

Cool! I look forward to the new turret sounds. Are jump sounds getting changed too? Not the gate sounds but the sound that's played when the jump effect is displayed around your ship, I really hate that echoey weird sound that sounds like a photon torpedo shot from the original Star Trek series....
A suggestion that I haven't seen yet is maybe you could add sounds to drones when you give them commands. I image them sort of like the Imperial probe droid from The Empire Strikes Back, unintelligible but sounds like mechanical language in a short burst that confirms the command given by the pilot. Could also add drone language warnings for the different health states, as long as they're not too pronounced they could be useful to the attentive drone user that memorizes the sounds. Drones have some AI, so it follows that they would try to communicate to their capsuleer if they're in trouble. |

By this do you mean that an up-front additional lengthening of the client download time is too big a trade-off for improved fidelity in the score? I see that you've said you use much less compression than 128kbps, but my ears usually cannot register 320kbps or at least high VBR mp3's, yet I can clearly hear the compression on the score. So would there be an option to modify the .ogg encoder to allow for 320kbps mp3s instead? Should still be a relatively low download time for the audio portion.
Also, do you guys use your own proprietary audio implementation system, or is it Wwise or Fmod? |
