oops that aint a good thing! Do we know if the passwords were forcibly accessed from the server, ie brute forcing, or was there some sort of exploit involved concerning the windows server system or CCP's server software for EVE? -------------

You fill these forums with nonsense, I've avoided the General Discussion forum until today, and I've been shocked by the amount of idiots, kiddies, morons and attention seekers posting. I think you're their leader.

What do you do if your old password does not work, and using the forgot password thing does not work because the email address got changed?
I know the email account i used for the other account, and I know it is still active, yet when i plug that information in it say that the log-in name and email address do not match.
If so, how can i get my other account looked into as an account that got hacked since I am at work and will be unable to log in until much later.

Some tips for choosing a secure password:
- For gods sake DON'T use your first, last or middle names, your login name or your birthday as your password, they are the first thing most people would try.
- DON'T use all the same number or letters or letters or numbers in sequence ie. 5555, aaaa, 1235 or abcd.
- Try and use a password that is 6 characters or longer.
- Try to incorporate letters and numbers and even punctuation into your password, this makes it infinitly harder for a hacker or program to guess. ie. 4hiepi or h0eyou
- Try to remember your password and not have it written down
It's basic stuff really but some people might find it usefull.
Theres a random password generator here for anyone who wants to use it.
Oh and update your antivirus definitions regularly and perform regular spyware sweeps.
Internet security class over. -----

If the e-mail is incorrect, where would your e-mail be sent? As I haven't received anything yet...and I'm pretty sure I've changed that account e-mail to what I use now.

Still since I've changed ISP like 2 years ago.... and nothing has arrived in my current mail, what do we do?

Bah! Dang hackers costing me training time.
Normally when I log out for the night and have work the next morning I let a skill that has a long time to complete train up.
Last night I had the rare occurence of a skill I wanted to train up running and scheduled to finish in the morning - right before I was to leave for work.
So it was perfect, I could finish the one, start another before leaving for work and it would be done by the time I got home tonight, and I'd be quite pleased. (Gallente Industrial to Level 2 and Instant Recall to level 4....
...but alas the extended downtime and investigation resulting from the damn hackers blew that all to hell and I'm left to sit staring at a skill screen with NOTHING training (twitches slightly) for the next 8-10 hours! <screams silently>
Oh well.
Curse you hackers!!

No he ain't that bad. There's some sort of tradition on here and the blogs to try and get the first post, it's long standing and while Thomas managed it this time, it's probably his first time, and he's far from being the only that's done that. ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

I lost access to one account 5 days ago, and have been waiting for the 'other' petition to go through ever since. Patiently.
My patience is at an end on that score.
I now cannot log into a second account via the forums login, so that one is lost too. If I can't log in, how am I expected to change their passwords?
Who do I send their names to for a password reset?

Edited by: Mira deVorsha on 06/01/2006 14:54:51 Not sure if this helps but there was a scam in Neocron that got nearly a whole clans passwords hacked.
Here is what happened. 1. Scammer joined corp, made friends. 2. Bringing up questions about peoples families got people to say what thier mothers maiden name was. 3. From the clan site got thier hotmail addresses. 4. Used the forgot password and answered with what they had been told. Got into numerous hotmail accounts and then told the Neocron servers that each account had lost thier password and had them sent to the hotmail. 5. Logged into each account and looted it clean.
He got caught but the point to bring across is those questions they ask you for password forgetting you should never actually put the correct answer into it.
Although I suspect this number of people might of gotten hitten by the WMF exploit.

He's probably running for the medal of the spamming idiot of the month to be honest. Seeing from most of his post in Out of pod experience and other sections.
Alot of tech 2 bpos owners are getting hacked imo, good job at trying/stopping them.

Also, with added problems of missing emails now from accounts, should people be worried about false password n email resets on accounts?

I've possibly been a little harsh there. I blame that on the frustration caused by hundreds of senseless posts, so my apologies to the Village Idiot. And I realise my post, his post, your post, and indeed this post are further cluttering up the boards. Sorry folks, but perhaps it's not too much to hope this will prevent further nonsense posts.

Can CCP please just give us an ETA on when Tranquility will be back up and operational for our use?
I feel that would be the most helpful information for most people at the moment as well as dealing with people accounts and problems individually.

So how did someone get ahold of my login to "assault" my acount I sure as hell never told anyone what it is?
With my acount by that I mean my main acount, where it keeps telling me login credentials incorrect.

Oveur - thank you for your post.
At some point, please consider setting up a simple "Server Status" page on this site, for your customers to refer to quickly and easily.
I would be very pleased if I could refer to such a single, permanent, point-of-info page instead of looking through the forums for whichever thread has the relevant info on the current state of the server.
Thank you, and keep up the great job you're all doing.

There's a link for that under "my account". It's automated thingy and should work afaik.

It indeed seems that it uses old mail addy's even if you have since changed it...
Not, very, good.
I managed to reactivate the inactive hotmail addy i used for my blocked account (which is not this one) and asked for pw reset via the accoutn login page. That seems to work as it now accepts the request.
If you cannot reactivate the old email adress, I'd say you need to petition it, and for good measure include the last emailadress you uised for the account as CCP might be able to assert your identity using that information. _______________________________________________
