Originally by: mandaro Ok there is only one problem here. Two of my accounts have obviously had thier email acct info changed because neither are accepting the proper email as a match. I had just reactivated one of the accounts last night so I know for a fact that everything was fine. What are you going to do about this now? Those of us who have had thier emails changed are just screwed now? Sorry but after almost 3 years of dealing with ccp I have run into too many faults with thier "customer service" department. I think its time to bring this whole thing to a wrap and cancel my three accounts. Its something I've already contemplated and this just helps me along. Thanks CCP for what you have tried to do. Too bad you dropped the ball yet again.
no ur not, petition with the account details of the account and have the mail changed ________________

Edited by: Vandar Broheem on 06/01/2006 19:14:01 Just got my email, after almost 5 hours. I was one of the "lucky" ones who didn't get hacked I just got my play time nerfed.
4.5 hours of boredom ftl!!
Working for an ISP that sends 10,000+ billing emails every month to its subscribers, I have to wonder about the quality of the CCP email server. Ours is by no means top of the line and it only takes 30 minutes on a bad day to send it's queue.

I sugest that all the people whining and *****ing in this thread be put on a special list and next time there is a security issue, the users on that list become exempt from any security measures CCP take.

Edited by: iqplayer on 06/01/2006 19:24:07 (Constructively) The problem with this chain of events, was that, while trying to sa***uard our accounts, they have caused many, many players more trouble than was necessary. They changed 1000's of passwords when the only way to reset password had issues. They used the original email addresses even when players had updated them. In fact, this may be part of the reason the emails that could be delivered are taking so long; buried under the tidal wave of nonworking and returned emails.
Honestly, I understand the need to protect accounts. But before thousands of passwords were changed automatically, a reliable method for resetting passwords should have been put in place. Emails should have been directed to current addresses, or at the very least, addresses which had not been changed within the last XX hours (being the time since the hacking activity was noticed). IMHO, this was a knee jerk reaction that has caused a lot of regular, paying customers a lot of grief. Think about it, worst case scenario, if my account had been hacked - I would have been playing, online, waiting on a petition to return my stuff. Instead, I'm offline with that character, waiting for a petition to return not only my stuff, but my whole account.

Let me guess - either your accounts weren't locked out, or you have already gotten them back? Atm, as far as I'm concerned, I've not only lost my stuff, I've lost my whole account.

Quote: CCP's initial response time they gave us was ONE HOUR not 2 or 3 or 5.
So let's see, they said one hour, it was down for three, that means they'd owe you for two hours? Ok, lemme see here, 744 hours in this month, $15 for 744 hours translates to. . . . . .
They owe you $0.04 for your troubles.

Forget the money, I was unable to use two of my characters for 3 hours and 1 still unusable, meanwhile my corp had scheduled (and I'd taken time to attend) a mining op in 0.0. The character that is still locked out was the tank, so the entire op was delayed for 2 hours. I'm not even sure I can calculate an isk figure, but so far it should be around a couple hundred million isk......
Dunno why I am replying though, as those replying in this manner obviously are not sympathetic to this situation.

Edited by: Qutsemnie on 06/01/2006 19:33:44 Having gone through this process i have this to say: Let me get this straight if anyone hacks or engineers my username they can get control of my password?
Because my username isnt of a secure sort. And further doesnt it kind of defeat the point of a password if your just going to hand out new passwords to anyone submitting a username?
If i was looking for a vulnerability in your system it would be people using http software to try combinations on your usernames with a free email address knowing if they accidently guess one then they get the account.
Or maybe i just interpreted that reset screen wrong since i didnt try typing in an email not associated with the account.

It not only has to be associated with the account but apparently has to be the original email used to setup the account, regardless of whether it has changed since, or for how long.

just thought to add it in here after seeing the post:
Originally by: Dakath Edited by: Dakath on 06/01/2006 18:39:25It seems that due to the password problem many people cannot access their accounts and worse yet, they have a dead email address.
I logged on to change passwords and check to make sure the right email was in there. It was. However somehow the birthdate was wrong. I corrected that immediately.
If you can still log into "My Account", do it now. Make sure your email is correct. Make sure your birthdate and other info is correct as these are the things that prove that you are the person who owns your account.
Again, make sure that email is correct. If your password is changed as a security precaution and CCP does not have your correct email address you will have a big problem.
Change your password while you are at it.
Good luck all. Except for the jerks who created this problem in the first place. I hope CCP catches them and sues them unto bankruptcy.

Originally by: Oveur Note: If your password has been reset and your email hasn't arrived yet, you can manually reset your password again through account management. Please allow up to an hour before the new password is sent due to the added load.
How can you manually reset the password in account management when you can't log into account management because CCP has reset the password?
All i could get into with my other (reset) account was "forgot password" option, which I did, in the hope CCP would send me the new one. But it's been 2 hours and still nothing

Well this account was okay, but my other account I cannot login with. I can't request the password either, because I think it's going to an email address that is now out of service (I moved house in July and moved cable provider, hence lost the email address!). I sent a petition via. this character though. This is all a bit of a ****er I have to admit.

When the dust has settled a bit in this matter I'd still like to hear (read) from CCP how that security compromise could have happened in the first place and if they have learnt their lesson.

Trust me, I'm sympathetic to your situation, man. I'd had similar problems back in EQ days and in the SWG days. Similar but different, because I had to deal with SOE via email in order to solve it, because their support and billing sections are completely and utterly worthless, and my account was deactivated due to a misplaced petition. Aren't they wonderful?
Anyway. I'm sympathetic, and completely understand the frustration you're expressing, I just think that people demanding their money back really need to bear in mind what they're really asking for in the grand scheme of things. It's a tiresome kneejerk response, especially to a company that regularly bends over backwards to attempt to help out its playerbase, like CCP does.
It's an inconvenience, and it's terribly frustrating when stuff was planned to happen, but it happens, and no matter how frustrated one gets and how much isk one may or may not have lost, it's still just a game.
Don't think my sarcasm in response to an absurd demand is a lack of sympathy to any- or everyone affected.

We're still here, going over the situation. Some of the emails are still going out. If you still haven't recieved your email, do a forgot password request on account management.
If you have tried that and waited 4 hours like me, send a petition through the billing queue. Senior Producer EVE Online

yes, i`m lucky not to have ever changed my email and have both accounts back for hours so i can`t say how it must feel besides crap ________________

My apologies then, still my points remains, that while the immediate demands for money are rather pointless, the thought behind them- that CCP has caused a loss of use for many characters, with inadequate preparations to handle the situation - remains.
To be quite honest, it remains to be seen what the whole effect of this could be, but I don't think it's out of the question that whole accounts could be lost because of this.

Petitions take a long time to be replied to at the moment. If it says it doesn't recognize your email, it because the email you enter does not match the email which is assoicated with your account. Senior Producer EVE Online

ur email might have been changed
petition trough the "ask question" and ask for a email change under "billing&account" -> "updating account information"
do this just to be sure if u get the unable to find account error asap, maybe they can reset the pass and give u the info aswell ________________

Ok so I go through the whole petition thing and it says error no subject line....well it had a damn subject. So I type the whole thing over again, check to make sure everything is ok, and wham I get this crap:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: print_charset() in /cgi-bin/eve_online.cfg/scripts/enduser/acct_new_mb.php on line 21
Gotta love it!!!
