Now what?
Do I have to send an email to customer support so that they can tell me they have no record of a problem, and thus I lose Kurenin forever?
said by a few several times back but"
petition trough the "ask question" and ask for a email change under "billing&account" -> "updating account information"
just add the account info with the petition ________________

Also realize that it is after business hours where they are located, and if nothing has changed recently they do not work on weekends, so if like me you have a second account with old email info, your not gonna get it fixed till Monday sometime.

Hmm, I have a question.
A while back I got my password change mail and as it told me to change password from the randomly generated by CCP I did.
As you can see due to me being able to post here I do know what the new password is but I cant seem to get in on tranq with it.
Is there any delay before the new password goes active on there or are there characters you may not use for the game that this webpage accepts?
I an at this moment rather anoyed that I have not been able to get in yet and its hours since I got my mail and changed the password.

are the 'hacked' accounts related somehow, as in same corp, alliance?
Is this a result of phishing or was it a 'real' hack into the servers??
Only reason I want this clarified is CCP has my CC# in their DB and I want to know if it should be changed to a fake number ASAP or what.
So a simple answer to :
Was CCP DB hacked, or was it something else? (let it be something else <prays>)
anywhooo, good luck CCP, prosecute the offender(s) if you can.

Fester, they did say to change that temporary password immediately after receiving the mail, so you might try logging in to the 'My Account' Section and changing it yourself, then see if you can log in to the game.

This action on the part of CCP is the most irresponsible thing I've seen a MMO gaming company do in almost a decade of experience I have with MMO's.
It is utterly reprehensible to reset a password for any account when said account owner has not petitioned complaining of an alleged "hack."
There's only a thousand VALID reasons why an email address for a given account might not be accurate or up to date. Yet CCP, with this single action, have potentially cut off THOUSANDS of customers from gaming accounts they continue to pay for just because it was someone lame brained idea of "prevention."
The only prevention for being hacked is not to share your password and to follow safe computing practicing that ensure your PC isn't compromised. It's all in the users hand as it should be. Why in the f3ck can't CCP fathom such an easy lesson?

I'll tell you what I know. I reactivated an account last night...Today the username and email do not match. The email has never changed and since I had a fresh install of XP Pro two days ago and only have eve on it....you do the math.
Not to mention I get: Fatal error: Call to undefined function: print_charset() in /cgi-bin/eve_online.cfg/scripts/enduser/acct_new_mb.php on line 21 whenever I try to file a petition in game or out.... |

That's simply not true. There is *no* bulletproof for hacking (or *****ing), as it involves someone actively probing vulnerabilities. It certainly encompasses more than people handing out passwords (though through social engineering, phishing, or loggers that could be included).
It would be nice to have an official response as to what happened, what's been done to prevent it in the future, and what criteria were used to reset accounts. However, that's unlikely to happen, as most security is in fact obscurity - if you don't know, you can't work around it.
It would be my guess though, that this involved brute force attacks against accounts, or something similar that is traceable, and that the accounts that were reset showed evidence that someone had tried to ***** it.

First thing I did was change the password I got in the mail to a new one that I made upp. I could use the password supplied in the mail to log in initially but that one does not work anymore (naturally). I have been using the one I made upp myself till just now but as it seems not to work for logging onto the game I have started replacing some of the potentionally unaccepted characters to see if that was the problem.
Thus far no success but I have no problem loggin in to the myeve.eve-online page as you can see as I can post.
Well in all Im happy I still have 6 days to go before my skill is completed. Btw anyone have a galente HAC for sale at a fair price :)

A few words of help would go a long a way for a PANICKING account holder
Petitions take a long time to be replied to at the moment. If it says it doesn't recognize your email, it because the email you enter does not match the email which is assoicated with your account.
Oveur, could you please have the Devs or someone look into the situation though, as apparently the email that notifications are being sent to *is not* the current email, but rather the email that was originally associated with the account?? And if you request to reset the password, it is also that original email that is needed and notification sent too.... It is exactly this problem that I think is causing most of the havoc here.....
Yes, thats exactly the problem my main account has.

Resetting everyones passwords seems to me that it was a server side issue?
Or was it a case that someone using a commonly known irc/vent/ts was using a keystroke program?

Hmm, that is strange then...... for what it helps, Eve does seem to allow numbers and at least some special characters - for sure, the characters above the number keys worked for me.

It won't recognize any of my email addresses I put in there, and yet when I submitted a Question thru the website the response was sent to my correct email address which I have been putting in. Still waiting for my main to get fixed, this is my alt which has been working fine.

Edited by: Mr Feltcher on 06/01/2006 20:56:11 OK, enough is enough now...
I would say that YOU CCP has a HUGE problem... I have 2 accounts that I cant log into despite one having recieved a new PW that WONT WORK!! I have yet another account that claims I have an invalid username/email address!!!????
i HAVE petitoned this with an account made avaliable to me but nothing !! and the answer I get is 'it takes a long time to answer right now'
Well this is NOT good enough. Paying customers should NOT be treated like this, I cant even log in top cancell my account to protect from being billed for something I cant have access to.
This is NOT a rant, as a PAYING customer I want to see something done NOW please! I know im not the only one having these problems... |

Yup, I have my 2 main accounts in total limbo. I think I managed to find the email I signed up with for the first one, but the 'forgot your password' link does not seem to recognise it.
Yesterday night before downtime, I was happily playing eve on my accounts, today, I'm worried I've just been screwed out of eve. I'm worried less about the hacking than about the methodology CCP used to address it. Basically, its cut of 1000s of player from the game, put everyone in panick mode and there are many many player out there at the moment without a clue of what to do to get into there account.
IN ALL HONESTY, CANT THE ORIGINAL UNHACKED ACCOUNTS HAVE THE ORIGINAL PASSWORDS RESTORED? If it only 57 accounts. First thing I'll be doing if I get mine back is updating my emails. Still this is a very poor way of doing this.

I couldn't have said it better. This is just simply the RIGHT THING TO DO. To save this debacle from unraveling even more I suggest CCP bring down TQ and make this happen ASAP.

Edited by: Onuris on 06/01/2006 21:05:41 As much as I hate posting with alts, I guess in this situation I have to.
Password Resetting Problem:
My main account had its password changed by CCP. No E-mail arrived with a new one. When I go to request the password from Account Management it says my e-mail address is invalid. I happen to know for a fact, though, that the e-mail address on that account was up-to-date and active (as it's the same one for this account).
So, what do I do now? I tried using this character to sent an "Other" petition but I have a feeling that won't be read for a while and more importantly, how do I prove I also own the other account?
EDIT
Strange Credit Card behavior as well:
EVE wouldn't let this character log in this morning claiming that there was a problem with the credit card... something about the card being invalidated. When I re-entered the same card it worked fine. Now that kind of scares me.
