Moved from EVE General Discussion to Skills forum - Jacques'
GoonFleet hit 900 people a day ago, and we have started to purge out as many inactives as we can find. Judging from a thread that I poll that I posted, we still have over 550 active members and about 75 alts - and this is snowballing faster and faster. In a few months, even if I have Empire Control V, we'll still be up against the 1300 person limit. The last newbie drive alone netted 250 active members and about 250 more trial accounts that ended up not subscribing.
We'd rather not split off and form subcorps, as we have some common resources that can't be sent across different corporate hangars. Plus it's cool all being in the same corp, with the same exact rules, same leadership to which to appeal when the newbies need things, etc.
Would it be possible to just put a skillbook in the game that cost 100-300M isk that allowed +500 or +1000 people in the corp per level? I highly doubt we'll ever need 5000 or whatever spots, but it would at least fix our problem in the near future.

honestly I see no need for this.
if a corp hits said limit with <25% inactive people... ok.
but 900 people with <600 active is a bit silly.... how many of those accounts were trials that will never be activated?

Goonfleet activly purges as many inactives as they can, on a really regular basis.

maybe its just my own thing against ultra-huge corps... I'm not sure what it comes from, but I've just always had a severe dislike for gargantuan guilds and whatnot.
eh, I guess I am not in much of a place to say, but a thousand people seems a bit excessive.

Would make keeping all the corp hangar filled a pain as theyd all have seperate corp hangars.

You have 900 members of the race of the CEO ?
If your have multiple races, a re-reading of the Ethnic Relations skill will solve your problem :
Skill at operating multiracial corporations. Extra 20% corporation members of other race than CEO allowed per skill level. Percentage is based on CEO's corporation management skills, not the number of people in the corporation.
That means that with maxed skills, you could have 1300 Amarrs (for example), and 1300 Caldaris, and 1300 Gallentes, and 1300 Minmatars, for a grand total of 5200 members.
That skill also allows Jovian and Pirate characters, but as far as I know you can't make a character from those two races.
I did a test when I had Corporation Management 2 and Ethnic Relations 1 : I asked a few friends to make a bunch of Caldari alts (since I'm Caldari), recruited them in my small 1-man corp until I was at 20 members, and then tried to recruit a few alts from the 3 other races ... it worked, at least up to the fourth of each race, when trying to recruit the fifth Gallente alt, the game told me I hadn't the skills for so many people in my corp.
That was 10 months ago, it may have changed since then, but I doubt it.

Hmmm, interesting. I am fairly sure we have run across an upper limit before and Ethnic Relations didn't help, back when we only had 500 members.

Right now this is not politically feasible as we are members of the informal OSS alliance. We are going to make an actual OSS, but we have not ironed out who the executor will be.
Multiple corps are infeasible as it will just end up an unmanageable nightmare. The alternative is that we get to 1300 and only add people as others quit. So, no more hundred and hundreds of new subscribers every other month that help support the game we have come to love.

I hope they will upgrade it, and im sure they just thought that no corp would get this large. I mean it would mean GoonFleet alone has almost 1% of the playerbase in eve.

sure they are. but I think they are ALOT different. in theory at least, an alliance would be a.. erm, alliance... of several/many independently functional corporations with similar views and ideals or whatnot. of course theoretically some geographic connection as well.
theres no signifigant "managability" problems with an alliance of 1300 people, if its divided into half a dozen groups of 200 and some, each group would be independently functional and operative as its own corp.... at least it seems to me thats how the alliance thing is MEANT to be.
again, I admit this could be wholely my bias against ultra-huge corps/guilds/whatever. but I don't see why they should. I can't see how with that many people a corp would be corp-like at all.
but I can't imagine it'd hurt much to have it avaliable... so why not.
I don't even want to think about how the politics in such an absurdly huge corp would be...
