Hmmm, very interesting indeed :) I just ordered a new PC, a bit like yours Sevarus. Hoping EVE will run a bit smoother !

Just put up another poll for EVE to be upgraded to "official support" status for Transgaming. If you're a subscriber, get in there and push the button so we can get our 10 'seconds' to push this on to transgaming!
Poll Link
Keep in mind you have to be logged in to vote or 'second' the existing votes.

Voted. What happened to the previous vote ? I thought Transgaming would give EVE a special subforum once the vote passed (which it did).

That's a mystery to me as well. When it comes to the polls, the only 'say' we've got is getting them forwarded. What happens then is a mystery to all outside the hallowed halls of the company I guess. ----- ------------

Edited by: Sevarus James on 22/05/2006 09:58:15 Have you thought about a 'secured' credit card? Everytime I see this 'issues' with plastic, I kinda' scratch my head. Several years back, I went through a bit of credit 'roughage' as it were, but getting a visa/mc was simple. Just deposited 300 bucks with secured credit card company (such as capitol one as an example) and get credit card with a 300.00 line of credit. Its not "real" credit, but it sure as heck beats having to go through other hoops to pay for stuff online.
Just an idea. ----- ------------

I'm still trying to get Cedega to work for me. I've got my Eve folder copied to Linux via a Fat32 drive. But when running eve.exe from the command line "cedega eve.exe" it gives me some point2play.py errors or something. How did you get Eve working?
But this has been answered in another thread by Severus James
Quote: As to cedega, I do NOT recommend a copied eve folder. Install it with cedega and run the newly installed version.
If you are using the free download version, I'm not completely sure here, but I believe its version is lower than the 5.1.1 needed to run EVE successfully.

When I copied the folder over, and ran "cedega eve.exe" on the command line I got the following :
Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/transgaming_cedega/Point2Play_gui.py", line 35, in ? raise Point2PlayError(_("Unable to load GTK2 Python bindings") + "(%s)" % str( sys.exc_info()[1] ) ) NameError: name '_' is not definedlinux32 cedega
I'll try with a fresh install though, as recommended.

In order to use Cedega from the command line, you have to give it more arguments that that (cedega --help will list them).
Your error is related to the Cedega gui (Point2Play), you do not have the GTK Python bindings installed, if you tell us what Distro you are running, we can point you iin the right direction of installing those.

I've heard that the 'free' version of Cedega available in portage and from the transgaming CVS tends to be buggy, unmaintained and majorly lagging behind developments in the subscription version. So that might be a potential source of your problems.

I couldn't find any information on what the Python GTK bindings are called in Gentoo, basically you should be looking for something called python-gtk2 or gtk2-python

I've got it working now. I emerged python (I didn't have python 2.4 installed)
I've installed Eve but now I'm trying to get it to work in an 1152x864 Window and NOT full screen at 1280x1024. But If I choose "Desktop 1152x864" in the profile, and run full screen it doesn't get the character selection. It just hangs. But I can run it in Full Screen mode okay though.

As far as my fps issue with moving mouse goes, I plugged in an old optical microsoft mouse I had lying around. This drops my fps by about 10 when shaking... but does not dip much below 15ish. My logitech g5 laser mouse still drops fps to 5 even when starting out over 100fps.
I have an optical logitech gx518 gaming mouse I brought to work. Tomorrow I will bring it home and try it. I will lose 400dpi, but the game will be much more playable if it works.
I also upgraded to an sli rig with 2x 7900gt. |

How can I make the Eve Online window in Cedega movable? I've got it to be a windowed mode now okay, but I can't move the bleedin window so it's also centered :(

Just a quick check: I'm running EVE on an nvidia 6600GT 128mb on linux, cedega et al and I'm getting around 20 FPS according to the window that Ctrl-F brings up ingame. Would anyone be able to tell me if this FPS rate is characteristic of my graphics card... or is it a sign that there's some option in cedega/linux/eve I'm not tweaking?
Thanks.

In station or in space (I turned off fancy station stuff)? In space however with a 128mb card I have around 20-25fps for normal flying, which drastically decreases with the amount of objects in space (asteroids or in a gang).

Edited by: Sevarus James on 24/05/2006 04:49:43 Hardware: AMD x2 64 3800 2 gig corsair memory in 128bit dual core mode. gigabyte nforce4 k8 triton motherboard 7600 GT (overclocked - BFG card) Nvidia (non SLI. 8756 drivers were borked. new drivers supposedly fixed this issue. Will be testing SLI in the next week or so.) 300gig sata2 drive. turtle beach santacruz sound card. Ubuntu 6.06 flight 7+ Dapper release. Cedega 5.1.3 using "scheduler= off, wine priority =lower. Interprocess= checked.
EVE running Full screen at 1900x1200 on a 24" Acer LCD.
In station with 2d menus= 65-90fps (depending on station. gallente= highest, caldari= lowest.) Without menus= 150-200fps. (using ctrl+f9 to hide 2d stuff).
In space no traffic= 40-60fps. With traffic 35-50fps. Gates no traffic= 35-60fps. Gates with traffic 29-45fps. Asteroid field= 29-50fps. npc rats= no real change to fps shown.
I AM still experiencing a very strange freeze of the 3d graphics every once in awhile. This might be related to the turtle beach hardware, as there are no reports of this with same hardware and creative cards. (minor annoyance, not a heavy issue.)
With the new dapper 6.15-23 kernel (k7) smp is working with EVE if the cedega scheduling option is turned off. The powernowd daemon is now at version .97 and no longer plays havoc with cpu speeds, which combined with EVE created a lagged out frame rate jitterin' mess.
Just a heads up, but via the cedega options you can turn on the heads up display showing FPS and ram memory/cache usage. Running this displays in the upper left hand side of the display and is very useful in determining ram leakage as well as an accurate frame rate. This indicator matches the in game ctrl+alt+m utility on the FPS. ----- ------------

Anyone tried running 2 clients in Cedega? When I do the first one has 99% cpu usage and the 2nd client can't even do jack with it's 5% cpu usage.

You would have to mess with the Cedega scheduler, soon as you start the first instance of Cedega it gets niced to have cpu priority.

Edited by: Sevarus James on 24/05/2006 14:15:27 According to the devs at transgaming, for dual core cpu proper usage you need to turn off the scheduler via the gui. The game will then "use the dual core properly".
So, starting two different instances of EVE, make sure that BOTH instances have the scheduler turned off. You may also want to change the wine server "priority" to "lower" as well.
I'd be interested to hear how this goes, as I personally do NOT run multiple accounts or characters. EVE feels 'better' to me running as just Severus. From a technical perspective however, more info is good info. ----- ------------

i'm still failing at getting my system to recognize it is SLI.
Cedega recognizes my two 7900gt as having a total gpu memory of 508mb. Linux itself is only registering the one. I tried adding to the xorg.conf the: Option [SLI] [AUTO]
Even tried [AFR] for last switch, as that is supposedly the best performance of the various switches.
I am using: Ubuntu Dapper 32-bit 2.6.15-23-k7 Xorg Version 7.0.0
And my driver version is: 2.0.2 NVIDIA 87.62

It looks like the bug with the latest kernels has been fixed and it "compiles" fine without any errors to agp deallocation. Here's hoping that I can switch over to the r300 drivers every now and then without a total system hang on exiting out of x.
