I don't know the intricacies of the patching process, but you could try renaming the offending file. Perhaps if it isn't found, it will be replaced with the patched file, rather than failing checksum. On the other hand, it might throw a different error :( Can't hurt to try though.

Already tried it, and it says it's not found. A couple windows people had the same problem for tranquility last patch, but I couldn't find any indication on how to fix it... Of course, I can't reproduce with a real windows client, so I can't really report a bug :(

Edited by: Xeiyu Crimson on 24/10/2008 02:08:03 Does anyone have premium working with stations and ships rendering on an ati card?
I'm using a hd4850 and the latest wine + catalyst driver. I can run classic and premium, but in premium no ships or stations render.
EDIT: Found a screenshot the describes my problem. Screenshot

I get that error too. Whenever I get that error, I have to reinstall eve from the install file under c:\sisi, and than go patch from that. That is my workaround.
Originally by: maltari Well, I tried again, and it still failed during the patch install (5.11.64451 -> 5.12.66029).
Quote:
Patching Error in the file bin\DirectX\DXSETUP.exe. The specified File did not have the correct CRC.
This indicates that your installation is corrupt. Please reinstall EVE-online
As I said in my previous post, my installation is fine (it's copied from my tranquility client folder), and I've compared this particular file with pure windows installs, and it's not corrupted. I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 (32 bits) and using wine 1.1.6, but it failed before with 1.1.4 too. If anyone has some ideas about what's going on here...

I didn't try it but.... Did you try running TS on the same desktop? You can do that by typing in the same desktop name while running TS.
wine /desktop=eveplusts,<res>x<res> eve wine /desktop=eveplusts teamspeak (or whatever the program is called.)
Originally by: Toneri Edited by: Toneri on 02/10/2008 07:09:40
Works great other than for the fact that when I'm running ts2 normally (through wine, not emulating desktop) the push to talk & whisper buttons work only when the ts2 window is active. Any thoughts how this could be solved?
Also, using multiple clients in separate desktops really hurts performance...

Just tested the new expansion + wine 1.1.8 (premium gfx). Seems to work fine for gates/stations and etc. nvidia 8800 gts amd x2 dualcore 3800 3 gig ram
New gates look awesome, plus effects....I did have to flip between 24 bit and 24bit with 8bit alpha once to correct some strange looking effects, but other than that, seems solid.
Oh yeah, and 1.1.8 is out. ;)

The "EVE ****s up on losing focus so you have to run it in a virtual desktop" bug appears to be fixed in wine 1.1.8. Requesting confirmation?

I'm running 1.1.8, not getting the focus bug anymore.
edit: knickers, looks like I spoke too soon. Was fine for about 5 mins (switching focus many times during this) but then it finally resurfaced. Ah well.

I surfed through the change log for 1.1.8 and didn't see any mention of the type of bug that we are seeing with the fullscreen focus issue. That said, I did say "surfed" the change log, so I could be wrong. I do know that there were no eve specific changes done for 1.1.8 at least by the change log/fixes listed.
Personally I've been using wine with a 'fit the screen' window for awhile as I'm using two 24" widescreen monitors in twinview mode, and I've had problems with eve fullscreening that way.

Ok, most of the time all models spawned after you jump do not appear. This includes my ship, gates, planets and sun. Belts, rats and POS's are visible thought (did not check stations yet, none close to my location). wine 1.1.8, GeForce 8600M GS. Happens to my friend with regular GeForce 7 series card too, not sure about wine version. Didn't have any problems on sisi but after I patched my regular install today this started happening...

I have the same problem -- no model reload after gate jump -- under Ubuntu 2008.10, NVIDIA card, under both Cedega and regular Wine.

Same issue here : models may not reload after gate jump. The problem is weird as it do not occur immediatly & may disappear as soon as it appeard. Graphical settings are default ones (i should try to disable graphical cache)

I'll second this. Sometimes you'll get lucky and it'll work after a focus switch, sometimes it won't.
At least it's better then it was before when every switch would be a lockup I suppose.

Since the patch, my client crashes 3 out of 5 times at startup. But once started, it runs for hours (12h was longest time) without problems.
Anyone had that too?

Tried with disabling the cache already, didn't help. Are you running compiz? I will try to disable compiz and run some text.
Btw, this problem appears on both classic and premium graphics.

Hummm... I gave them a try with the official client. However, in addition to the issue with texts bleeding out of their dialogs, the mouse icon is corrupted as well. So I think I'll stay with 177.82 by now.
In fact, I would even stay with 169.12, where the graphics were mostly flawless, if I didn't need to have CUDA support for some other business. I guess that playing EVE under wine doesn't suffer from that graphical glitches, or does it?

No, wine 1.1.8 + premium isn't suffering from the glitches that are currently plaguing the current official client.

Yes, i'm running compiz : will give a try disabling it.
I noticed that docking/undocking solve the problem . . . a moment (or you can wait next system to see if all is back).
I noticed too that NOT all models disappeared : mates jumped after me & appeared . . .
I presumed this problem is not 100% linux related, a mate running windows encountered the same issue.
I'm suffering the lag pb too, but it seems to be 100% client related & everybody suffer of this (i've lost my BS due to insta jump of 14 hostiles at the gate i was camping . . . doh . . .)

After some investigations on other threads my lag problem should be linked to weapons grouping . . .
Same explanation for models disappearance . . .
Bet on another buggy new feature ?

Patch on 11/22/08 coming!!!!
See this for a LOT of the issues currently plaguing the official client, and (as I've been discovering since my last post, issues affecting the wine/crossover side as well) :
patch notes:
Build 69477 to 70124 addresses Patch Notes for Quantum Rise 1.0.1
Critical
* Fixed an error that would occasionally cause a ship to disappear after jumping through a gate. This error would also cause client delays in loading up the space scene and models after the jump. * Fixed performance issues that would occur when loading a scene when running 2 or more clients at the same time, such as when docking. * Fixed a performance issue that would cause client slowdown after 30-45 minutes of playing. * Fixed a memory leak issue when ships appear on screen. * Fixed an issue that could occasionally result in a crash when switching effects on and off while in battle. * Fixed a memory leak that would occur when loading a large number of models. * Fixed an issue that could cause a crash when entering warp. -----------------------------------

Same here.
I noticed that by starting some CPU intensive task before starting the client, dramatically improves the chance of a correct client startup.
Recently I started using a wrapper script that runs and puts into background three instances of "yes >/dev/null", the command that only loops typing "y"'s in the shell, and in this case discards the output.
Once they're running, the client USUALLY starts without problem. It's much harder to launch it without CPU load.
There's an entry on WINE bugzilla on the subject. The "yes" hint comes from there. --- Kate [ Recruitment | HKG | G0DS ] |

since last patch i cant run multiple eve sessions simultaneously for a long period.
I have ubuntu 8.10 64bit with kernel 24-22, 4 GB Ram and an intel quad core CPU (Q6600) wine 1.0.0-1ubuntu4~hardy1 (i cant seem to be able to upgrade to 118?)
i can start my 3 chars using: wine explorer /desktop=Bruce Blacky,1280x960 "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe"
with different desktop names for each one (char names). I can play a while with out any problems, but suddenly one window will freeze up while the other two remain playable. If i close the frozen window all wine windows will be closed. If i continue to play with the two remaining windows eventually another window will freeze (which one seems to be random).
I usually do ice mining with one char, second i use to haul the ice to local station and with the third i do missions all at the same time. So mostly the hauler is the one freezing up first when undocking form station.
It seems to me that this issue wa snot present be4 patch AND kernel upgrade (from 24-19 to 24-22) However booting with the 24-19 kernel does not fix the issue so i do not know if it is related to the kernel upgrade as well.
any suggestions are mostly appreaciated
Bruce
