I only flew out my Retriever, but I think it looks nicer.
I think there's only one window transparency setting? I'd kinda like a setting for each window in the future. For example, skills window I like fully opaque but the chat windows I like a bit of transparency when in space since it's always open. Maybe if Skills/character had its own setting I could dock cargo and market window on it and re-use the setting for them.
I don't mind the neocom and dock icon changes. I prefer a bit more color in icons normally, but no big preference from me.
This has been argued and asked a lot over the years, but I have a problem with the constantly moving/floating camera. With improved graphics I think it's going to be even worse for me, ironically. The prescription drugs I have to take I think have trashed my tolerance of a video game moving the camera on its own, i.e. I get motion sickness when in dock or mining, but movements that I direct and warp graphics don't bother me. So I'd like to put in one more request for an option to make the camera static/non-floaty.

Cool! Didn't know this was being implemented v0v Wasn-Št this implemented several AddOns ago? In the Rubicon expansion, we made ships inside of a Ship Maintenance Array have a chance of being placed in the SMA wreck. For Rhea with the release of the Bowhead, we took the opportunity to extend this mechanic to bays inside of ships as well.

Guess with graphics - including icon design - theres going to be an awful lot of subjective preference as well as personal habit. I'll just add my views 'coz this is the update opinion spot!
1) UI - neocom icons look fine to me. played for 2 hours no headaches or otherwise. Was never a big fan of the old one to be honest and any difficulties I'm having with the new one it will be sorted out with some practice and habit.
2) Have graphics at highest settings here and I genuinely believe the new ships are a definite improvement. Yes, some do look a little plastic. Others dont. Whose to say spaceships dont look most realistic this way. Again, personal preference and habit will play its part. Always been a fan of the probe and she looks prettier now than before. Perhaps the new skins project will sort out the "i dont like my ship anymore" problems some seem to be having. I would imagine if you really are not impressed with your fav ship anymore than that is a major downer. Still, from me thumbs up here CCP.
3) Map - I like it. I know it's beta. I want it not beta as soon as possible. Well done.
4) Manual control- Nice and long overdue. Feels natural. Not sure yet - 'coz im no combat expert- what effects (if any) it may have on combat (and therefore genuine piloting skill)..I have noticed that i can turn much tighter etc now. I like this. Again well done.
5) Thera,101 wormholes etc. Haven't been yet..but I am enjoying the sleeper exploration sites. All of this is good. I'm an avid explorer and to be honest I haven't played in a long time as I found the oddesy update very disappointing. (this was when cans were going to 'spill' loot & exploring was being targetted as a group activity). I'm back a few weeks and I like exploring again. I like the step towards...(still just a step mind you)..making exploration sites a thinking, manouvering and puzzeling experience.
well done overall CCP, I certainly like what Rhea brings. Pat on the back from me. |

The pirate faction ships do not render correctly. The dark side of the ships shine and the light side washes out. The Phantasm is a good example of the problem. They all look ugly except the SOE ships.
Blood Raider ships now have "dull brown" blood splatter paint! The old dark red was much better.
The Gallente ships are way too shiny, it looks tacky to me.
IMO, I prefer the old "less realistic" rendering. |

Things I don't like and why:
UI
- New graphical embellishments to the edges/borders of the windows just creates more visual noise on screen and adds no usability/aesthetic improvement to the overall UI.
- When background blur is enabled, module activation buttons that are behind them do not show through the transparency.
- 1 pixel buffer between windows that are next to/on top of each other still show space scene text at full opacity, creating more unnecessary noise, especially when moving the camera around.
New Lighting
- IMO this has been a step backwards for the game's art direction. Every ship is now duller (less saturated colours), very poor contrast and generally look matte/unrealistic. Highest graphics settings btw.
- What's more is that not only has this made every ship in the game look worse, but its also very inconsistent across the different ship models (Amarr hulls are ridiculously bright/golden after patch whilst Caldari ships are now even more dull in appearance).
- Iconography has also changed for all ship hulls, taking the new lighting, they have poor anti-aliasing and look out of place.
- Shadows seem to be broken - reappear and then disappear (instantly and repeatedly) as camera is moved around, rather than adapting to the lighting angle.
Everything else is excellent! |

General feedback: the ships look like ****, the UI looks like ****, the login screen in particular look like **** since it doesn't obey color scheme choice apparently. Manual controls are a stupid gimmick that will only attract more idiots who want EVE to be Elite, but are surprisingly responsive and seem like they will be useful for bumping or lining up warpins on miners.
The map is amazing. I love it.

Jenshae Chiroptera wrote:Looks like the new GUI is trying to be a 90s game that is in turn attempting to appear futuristic.
I would like an opt out option to use the old GUI.
Edit: I thought that I would start getting used to it. It only gets worse the more I try to do different things. It is like nails on a chalk board getting louder all the time.
Edit 2: The lack of colour on the buttons makes quick selection far less intuitive.
The blink on the chat tabs is far too easy to ignore. I guess I am going to have to default to Intel channels and be less social.
Edit 3: Basic GUI is tiny. They could package both easily.

Anna Tomy wrote: People *always* prefer what they are used to. Even if it sucks. Yes, the "hologram" optics are a matter of taste. But the old icons... This is a NO GO, every aspiring designer learns in school in the first week. They looked not simply out-dated, they were just bad. Illegible, terrible for usability. Even if it hurts, it's the right thing to trash the old icons... No more confusion.
You see, this is the kind of arrogance that makes ppl hate designers/developers/engineers/whatever. "OMG, how can you not like *change/design/product*?!?! It's awesome becuz *technical reasons lay men don't care about when they are just voicing their opinion*, I learned that in school/at awesome company X/wherever they think it is a big deal. GAWD stop being stupid!".
I know ppl have a tendency to dislike change, but saying they ALWAYS prefer what they are used to is simply not true. The fact that there are ppl here saying they love the new UI alone proves that.
I simply think the UI looks dull and sterile (with the new lighting making a lot of ships look more sterile too). I like colorful and detailed buttons. That's just personal taste however. On a more technical note: in the neocom, you can't make out where one button ends and where the other starts very well. |

Personal opinion: I don't like how the ships look now. they look, insert role-play here, unrealistic.
They look brandnew, freshly painted plastic molded kits you can buy in a store and glue together. Pretty sure I ran over Scotty the docking manager a few times in the past, where are the stains his corps left behind on my hull?
Also metal looks, well not like metal. Way to wide opacity, me thinks.
Very well said, they have a 'toyish' look about them now, that was never the case back in the past. The new light rendering might be more realistic from a technical point of view, the end result looking at them is NOT. |

Jesus christ, CCP. Why do you do this to me. You screw up things no one has even been complaining about. The old UI was great. Why the change? To make the game look more futuristic, or something like that? It's crap.
My first impression. Not good.
And after 10 minutes of playing, my eyes hurt from it. Thank you CCP.
I won't be able to play this game anymore unless you do something about it. You can set the transparancy to 0 on the slider... Escape menu.
Yes you can set your transparency to O.... BUT IT WILL STILL BE PARTLY TRANSPARENT! |

I felt nauseated after first 30 minutes on live version, wheere I could spend an hour on SiSi without issues. I've now tried to play for an hour and I've vomited once. Not in my head, I mean literal expulsion of stomach contents.
Unless the UI gets all the blinking windown when focused, losing focus and just turning your camera removed, I have to consider stopping. |

1) New rendering: looks like someone checked the "full bright" box and turned the shiny slider to 100%. You might want to add spinners to all galente ships.
2) The new icons ... I fail to see how thats an improvement in usability.I'm still doing it the old fashioned intuitive way tho. Guess I've got to take design classes first. |
