Just as I suspected logged into eve this morning at 6am, for an hour before going work, with no problems at all. I won't be on much over xmas anyway but if it happens again I'll be looking for a new isp in the new year, so any suggestions who to go with would be much appreciated.

Just an addition - rang the cancellation line again and told them that they WERE in breach on contract and that paying to term would be unacceptable. I was then told my issue was to be escalated to the UK based tech support team and if they could not fix it in 3 days then my contract would be voided without further issue.
Soo, it pays just to tell them that they are out of order and that nowhere in the contract does it state that outside of the FUP they can deny service.
Will have to see what happens in the next few days as I doubt the tech lot will do anything - just looking forward to getting the MAC and heading with a decent ISP. Cannot get cable so think will just go back to BT - never had any issues with them ever.

There don't seem to be a lot of decent ISPs left out there. Luckily I had been with Tiscali for just over a year. I got my MAC code and I have signed up with Be (www.bethere.co.uk), hopefully they will support internet gaming, I've never heard of a broadband ISP before that didn't.
To anyone who is still within their 12 month contract, Tiscali are blatently violating it. They have told me categorically that they don't support internet gaming, how can you call that "Unlimited" in any interpretation of the word?
Good luck getting your MAC codes

This is very interesting.
Im used to ISP problems so when it hits the fan i usually find the problem fast. Lo and behold its Tiscali. I wanted to dump them ages ago, but they are such hassle, dealing with the indian call centres. Been with them 3 years though, so will ask for my MAC tomorrow and in the meantime search for a nice package, which hopefully won't involved BT refusing to connect me up for a month again heh.
Strangely though, ive come back to EvE after a few months off, where i suffered NO connection problems, NO disconnects, anything. And i connect to EQ2 fine, and have never, ever had an issue with my connectivity. Something has changed with the way my PC connects to EvE or vice versa, perhaps through different ports. Although it's not CCP's fault, they've changed something that has caused this to be an issue. Shame, cos i've yet to connect...

This thread kinda supports that Revelations has messed up alot of people. I'll still switch from Tiscali, but im 90% sure CCP are to blame for the sudden connectivity issue, as i and alot of people never had an issue before it.

I fine with every other MMO on the market, or any other application for that matter. If the cause is what they mention in that thread: they are mixing P2P data with games data, thus messing it up, then it would affect other MMO's too surely. Could be the time of year im guessing, more people staying in playing games, more traffic, tiscali re-route everything, it all goes pear-shaped for EvE, as it must use P2P ports. I'll admit, i've been having trouble with file-sharing lately, where i cannot connect at all..
..lol answered my own query, that explains it. Bloody idiots. If there was a way to change the ports EvE uses, then it's problem solved then by looks of it (i.e. not a P2P port like 6999 or something).

Edited by: Lostat Yggdrasil on 12/12/2006 21:28:47 Edited by: Lostat Yggdrasil on 12/12/2006 21:17:49 I'm with Tiscali too and have been most frustrated since my problems began with the "Revelations" download patch last Wednesday. I play online with World of Warcraft and GuildWars too as well as online gaming on the Xbox live service and have no problems connecting to any of those such games using Tiscali as my ISP. This leads me to suspect that the problem must surely lie with EVE rather than Tiscali, after all, it makes no sense that EVE is the only game not connecting properly, given that all those other online games do (which also use greater bandwidth). So, I shall wait to see what happens after tommorrow's EVE Online patch. If it resolves the issues, great. If not, I may have to reconsider why I'm paying a monthly fee for a game I can't get to play. I hope this will not be necessary, after all, I'd just bought a nice Ferox :)
UPDATE: After reading the forums on the Tiscali website, I've now checked and the problem is actually also with Dawn of War online multiplayer, XFire and Ventrilo, so I now accept that yes, the problem must therefore lie with Tiscali. Looks like I'll be on the phone tommorrow for that MAC code then.

I don't think its coincidence that there are so many people on tiscali having this problem Lostat. Did you read the thread at tiscali's site?
If you do decide to quit though, I could always put that Ferox and your ISK to use :P

I asked for the code on friday and got it over the phone today. So, if your itching to swap ISP's and your waiting for the MAC code email, I'd ring them as they may already have it.

Wow, I requested my MAC code from Tiscali less than 2 hours ago and already have it. So, the question is...do I give Tiscali a chance to fix the problem, or switch to Demon or Plus-Net right now and have my connection speed boosted from 2 to 8 megs by Sunday night?

Edited by: Mr Suffer on 13/12/2006 19:25:55 Thank F**K someone at Tiscali finally admitted that the company was at fault!
So infuriating to be told repeatedly that they are doing nothing - not blocking ports etc when you have a pretty damn good idea that they are!
TBH atm I couldn't give a rats ass if they fix it tonight, give everyone a refund and up the speed to 1 trillion Kbs, I am so stunned by their terrible customer service that you just know they will manage to frak something else up in the near future and you'll be back to square one again.
MAC code in 2 days hopefully...
Never again Tiscali....
BritBullet: I used to be on pipex back in the day when the internet was a wee lad and they were the business - very stable and awesome all round - unfortunately with the advent of computers that dont require hamsters in wheels to run them I have no idea what they are like these days... Seems BT and Demon get good reviews, just do some checking on the web - eg: look up tiscali broadband via google and be prepared to be overwhelmed by the sheer amount of hate and venom that people have coughed up in forums... If an ISP manages to conjure up that much anger stretching back years then you get a good idea that signing up aint the best move you'll ever make. Wish I took that advice when I signed up myself

Hi All,
Thanks for all the information provided so far, have been able to narrow down the issue and believe it to be the cause.
The steps forward that I'm taking, gathering the games impacted and tagging the traffic to ensure its not routed in the same way p2p is.
I have been speaking to one of the game providers and have had the port and IP details from Mike for battle field 2.
Will get game by game flagged as not p2p. Which should quickly restore your ability to use them. Once I can stop the impact will try and identify the point in the network that corrupting the packets.
I would be grateful if you could let me know what game your having problems with, with the IP address and Port they use.
Avi "
Thought I would post this just in case Tiscali pull the thread from their forums and pretend it never happened, which I would not put past them - will save the thread too just in case
Can you post a link to that thread in tiscali forums cant seem to see it... thanks.

Below I have compiled most of the relevent posts from tiscali forums that I intend to use as evidence if tiscali try to charge me for the remainder of my contract......as i now have my MAC and have used it.
It proves they KNOW there is a problem, and that it has been going on for a significant period of time.
It also proves that it is THERE fault.

EVE Online really is not that much of a bandwidth hog, compared to an online game like Battlefield 2 which will hog your internet connection completely and utterly.
EVE is very conservative compared to that, and I think Tiscali really have no idea at all about the bandwidth requirements of some games.
However, I for one would be very unhappy if I was told my by my ISP that they "DO NOT support internet gaming". I would flatly refuse to pay the bill, if they blocked my service to any MMO or online game.
It just goes to show that some companies have no clue at all how to run a business.
