Any UK players connect via Tiscali broadband
For the past week, From 6pm to 11pm i am unable to connect to eve, Internet connection is fine, just unable to connect to eve server.
Having just spend a useless 30 mins on the phone i just wondered if this was part of their FUP and if any other users are affected?

Edited by: Dr MaBusei on 21/11/2006 21:31:22 It's Impossible to run x2 Accounts from different computers, we have a WoW player where i live and he has no connectivity issues at all.
Eve-Online uses very low bandwidth whilst playing(unlike WoW), so FUP is not relevant.(just their excuses for not bothering to invest in bigger pipes/infrastructure)
Tiscali also has issues with people doing https:// connections. (I had to use a 3G card on a laptop to submit this post)
P2P can punch out and connect ok and i sometimes use a P2P client to act as means of hammering a connection through the traffic to allow eve to connect(even then with problems)
Traffic issues have deteriorated markedly since September for me (i was online upto 16hours a day, June-Sept) I cannot get online in the evenings at all now, except to update skills to train.
I would recommend the GM's/DEV's have a chat with Tiscali Management and ask why they are actively blocking player access to (or at least restricting router throughput to) the Eve Cluster.
Tiscali 8Mbps. DonÆt believe the Hype, existing customers wonÆt get it till Feb 07 if ever. Dunno why but NTLÆhell looks real appealing from where I am.

I'm a Tiscali customer and have this problem as well. Can play most of the day and late at night with only occasional disconnects.
Every evening at around 7.30pm-8.00pm my connection drops and I am then unable to reconnect until approx. 9.00-9.30pm. This is a daily event and seems far too regular to be a problem with Eve, as everyone else I know in the game is still happily connected.
To add to the frustration this causes me I have found that I am not only unable to connect to the game at that time, but also unable to log into the forum to post anything, or check my character, so it seems like a blanket ban on logging into Eve.
ARGH!

Tiscali = the worst ISP/Telephone service ever.
I used to be with them years ago, before their name change. They mis-billed everyone. Billed for times you were never even online, billed for calls never made and then billed for time they said would be a free christmas gift.
They kept asking me to settle my bill. I always replied that I'd pay it when they sent me an accurate bill. Eight years later and they've given up.
Go with a proper ISP/broadband provider. BT, NTL, Telewest/Blueyonder are your main choices in the UK.
I'd highly recomend Blueyonder. I've been with them for many years and can vouch for their reliability. I get TV/sky and broadband internet from them. I'd never use anyone by BT for my Telephone though.

A Very good alternative to any ISP that are screwing you guys is plus.net.
These guys have top rated customer service and very high Broadband connection for a low monthly charge.
I nknow this is a shamefull plug, but I have been using them for five years, and never had a problem.

have you checked the main email address that your tiscali account was reg with, there might be some mails on there warning you about the amount you are downloading? the final one will be one telling you that they have dumpped you on a server with a load of other heavy user's (there's nothing you can do about it, but ring them and ask for your MAC code). this is what has prolly happened to you as i got the same.
the best way to fined out is to ring tiscali help line(COUGH,COUGH) go ape sh** on them and ask if you have hit your monthly download limit.
the big joke to all this is, when they told me i was dumpped on a server with a load of heavy user's i was looking at my account details and checking how much i downloaded, and it was 23gb that month with a 20gb limit, but only 6 gb of that was during the hours of which it matters for there fair usage policy, which i think it was 7:30pm - 11:30pm mid weeks and 4:30pm - 11:30pm weekends and as i did and still do most of my downloading between midnigh and about 7:00am i have no idea how i went over my download limit.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN ALL THIS, if you ask for your MAC code(making moving to another ISP easier, about 3 hours DT max and about 5 days from day of order for the switch) TELL them to give it to you there and then, also download all your e-mails that you want from any tiscali e-mail account you have as they will close them all about 2 days after your connection has been moved toyuor new isp.
good luck o/
Edit: the best ISP to go with in my opinon would be BT i moved to Virgin and i'm having High Ping Probs now (i must have pi**ed off someone in a forma life), why BT you ask if you have any line problems you will never get the line of the person you are talking with "we will have to log the problem with BT" as they are BT also BT have the same download limit as almost everyone else. Before you signup with any other ISP read Linkage the best site for helping to choose your next ISP. Personal i'd recommend ZeN the best ISP i've had. Tiscali always come bottom of the pile when you compare isp's on the site. Check out the ISP unhappiness forum to see which ISP's to stay away from

You will get that because you will be talking to BT Retail, who are just an ISP and operate seperately (as they legally have to) from BT Wholesale who run the actual DSL lines and network. |

Ahh this explains alot! Last few weeks I have been booted off the game and cannot log back on from about 8pm every night - goddam Tiscali! Only just joined up with them for the unlimited package but looks like I am gonna have to cancel somehow and change ISPs. Oh well, will go to war with them tomorrow and see what happens...

They have asked me to wait till friday to see if they can remove the throttle back, if not I can have my MAC number...
People on the older non Tiscali Max packages do not have the problem. I belive as my mate runs EVE fine |

same problem Logging on takes several minutes during "peak time." I get "Connection to the Server lost," after a coupe of minutes during "Peak Times."
I don't download during "peak times," just play EVE and I got my FUP the other day. Since then I've had problems playing EVE.
If it's not resolved this week I'll be asking for my MAC as they are not providing me with the service I require. BE Broadband 24meg looks promising.

Ok i have read up on different posts, and the way around this is to use SSH to tunnel the packets to a different host, and then from there they connect to the eve server therefor bypassing the tiscali route. I am pretty lucky because i am at university and have a sevcer that i can use to re-route my packets to the eve server.
Basically what you do is download putty. Open putty.exe and under Connections -> SSH -> Tunnels - You have to enter 2600 in the Source Port, and then in the Destination you need to add 87.237.38.200:2600 You then click the add button. Once you have done that you go back up to the sessions and enter the Server that you are going to connect to. Im not sure if there are any free servers out there but its worth a try to look and see. You add the server name into the Host Name(or IP address) and then you want to save the session, so go down to saved sessions and enter Eve and then click save.
Once you have done this you need to make your way to the Eve folder, then go to Cache and then open up the prefs.ini file. You then need to add to the bottom of the page
networkAdvanced=1
Then save the file and come back out.
From here on its easy. make sure u are connected to the host computer that will tunnel your packets. All you need to do is open putty and connect. Thats it. You dont need to run the eve file in some special mode or anything, which is what i first thought.
Run eve, and click in the Tranquility box, and instead add 127.0.0.1
Thats it. The harders part is trying to find a host for the tunneling, but im sure there are some free ones out there somewhere.
This gave me access to the server when it was otherwise down, so it gets around tiscali's crappy route.

update
After the initial email from tiscali saying im not on any FUP, I emailed them with the traceroutes, servers address etc.
I get an email saying that as long as im not hosting games my bandwidth should be low (duh!)
Then i get an email saying
"We would like to confirm that you are NOT BEING RESTRICTED OUTSIDE OF PEAK HOURS."
which would imply that i am being restricted inside peak hours,l contradicting they email they sent earlier!!
I just email back " I want my MAC code please"

incredibly annoying/. do we have any tiscali members that dont have problems as i read somwhere that downgrading your package ( ie not been a tiscali max customer) fixes it.

Dear Tiscali Customer Thank you for your query. Apologies for the delay in replying to your email. After carefully considering your case we have decided to give you another chance. This is your last chance so please ensure you do not abuse the service during peak hours because the large amount of traffic you are doing is affecting the service of other customers.
Your package is unlimited as are all consumer packages we provide. We shall not ask you to keep your total usage under a specific limit for the month, we are asking you to be considerate to other users during peak hours from 6pm to 11pm Monday to Sunday so all customers experience a high quality of service all the time. You can upload and download as much as you wish outside the peak periods. All we ask is that you keep your internet traffic to normal email and internet browsing during peak times because the high volume of traffic you are currently using during these times is affecting the service of our other customers. Any transferring of large files, peer to peer file sharing we ask is done outside of peak hours.
So to summarise...
Dear Tiscali customer,
please do not use your 8mb broadband connection to play games between 6-11pm mondays to sundays. Go shaft yourself,
Yours sincerely,
Tiscali

Hi,
By not being able to reconnect what are people actually experiencing? Is the client just not contacting the eve server? Or does it come up with an error saying that it could not get in?
I have just joined Tiscali max (1 month ago) and mine is hanging on the 'aquiring bulk data', i know this is another bug but when i downloaded the machonet folder from CJ it worked fine...
Are my issues similar to what everyone else is experiencing? I ran a tracert and got exactly the same thing as was previously posted. I havent ranted at tiscali yet but i may have too!
If its tiscali im not going to be impressed as this is not stated in the FUP!

Edited by: Yutties Revenge on 05/12/2006 19:32:16 Im unfortunelty a Tiscali customer also and have been having the exactly same problem for the last few days. It works so well until 6pm and then thats it my EVE game playing is over. I cant understand it being based off your internet usage at peak times because im on mostly in the mornings and afternoons. very rarely after 7pm
I checked my usage with them for the last month and my total download comes to 3GB. All other internet connections work great, its just eve. Ive sent tiscali a e-mail telling them of my problems and we will have to see what they say but I think I already know the answer to that one.
I surpose if enough eve players complain to them then they may look up and listen. but im getting very annoyed at the mo since it happens every evening.

Edited by: Avataris on 05/12/2006 19:54:04 I am a Tiscali customer, and here is the problem I'm experiencing:
I can play all day and night with only occasional disconnects and the occasional slow startup, which is fine. EXCEPT for the fact that my connection to the game drops every evening, usually at around 800-830pm (but tonight at 1900) and I am then unable to log back in til around 2230. When this is happening I can only get SERVER STATUS: UNKNOWN.
In the beginning I could get around this sometimes by disconnecting my internet connection then restarting it and it would work again, but not anymore.
Tiscali's F U Policy is marvelously vague in its wording, but basically if you are doing anything more than checking your emails and doing general 'surfing' of the internet between the hours of 1800-2300 and you do this on a regular basis then they will eventually restrict your badnwidth.
This has just confirmed to me there will be no resolution other than switching my ISP.
Off to request my MAC.
