Yes, there also seems to be problems logging on to EA games BF2 and BF2142, getting on to tiscali again..... might just pay up my last remaining months to find new ISP.......

Plus.net
Don't!!! go to plusnet, they are one of the worst ISP's about, due to their traffic management software I was unable to play several games, and the connection reliability was terrible, oh and their LLU 8meg ADSL goes though.....you guessed it, Tiscali

Edited by: migwar on 07/12/2006 09:51:27 Im sure its more than a coincidence that the day i asked for my MAC code, Pipex contacted me to transfer to them, Are pipex LLU through tiscali as well?

Check http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consumeradvice/internet/customer_service/quality/
this info may help those locked into contracts and also if tiscali start acting silly beggers WRT to mac codes and tags |

I was looking at Pipex as well. They advertise their service as 'unlimited' and I can't find anything regarding a Fair Usage Policy in their small print.
Anyone heard anything bad about them at all?

Well im still stuck on there 1GB line speed and it effects me as well. Unfortunetly my contract still has 4 month to go so im stuck with it. After a few e-mails with them the best ive got is to get it esculated to a network engineer. but they make it very clear he will look at it when he has the time.
The law and ISP do not seem to go together. This is totally silly. Im Screwed.

Ive been using Tiscali since Feb 06 generally without a problem, other than having a simialr problem to what people are now having when the world cup was on in the summer but that was traced to a fault on the line.
Id like to know what CCP have to say on the subject as the problems started for me again at the beginning of November, right around the time CCP did this;
http://myeve.eve-online.com/news.asp?a=single&nid=1300&tid=1
I dont think is the problem but to help further the debate and possible fixes for those of us stuck with Tiscali it would be useful to get some additonal info from CCP to see if anything major did change when they did the above, since a lot of people now seem to have this issue since about then.
In some ways Im perhaps more fortunate than the normal Tiscali user as I place all our corporations remote workers with Tiscali so I have a personal account manger to look into things. Tiscali clearly seem to do something between about 7 and 10 that stops us all playing eve but insists its nothing to do with them placing restrictions on the line or anything like that.
Why would Tiscali target eve only for example? Eve doesnt take much bandwidth up - less than 1mb an hour when Ive been mining which is insignificant for usuage so what would they gain by blocking it?
Ive had it confirmed its not due to any kind of FUP by Tiscali, my usuage is extremely low. It isnt due to the connection getting swamped - I'm on a totally seperate part of the exchange to most other people to make sure it wasnt anything to do with contention ratios or other users which is what they first thought might be the issue.
Ive done all the speed tests and typically dont have any problem - either when testing via Tiscali or with BT directly. I am slighty further away from the exchange than is ideal but it worked fine from Feb through to November so why should that now be a problem.
The same laptops can happily connect via 3G which is much slower than my 1Mb line anyway so lack of bandwidth or bottleneck like that isnt blocked. I can also use the same hardware on a pipex line at work without it being a problem.
This would suggest the fault lies squarely with Tiscali for blocking the connection - but surely if they were doing this it would always be at the same time for everyone? I lose connection anytime between 7 and 8 and get back on from 9.30 to 10.30 and it varies.
Ive also had two accounts running on the same laptop in the same system (miner with hauler buddy) and one had gone and the other hasnt for over an hour. Ive then been able to fire up the dropped account on another laptop on the same Tiscali connection and get back on for a while before they both get booted. This only started happeneing about the time CCP put the stuff in to stop multiple trial accounts working so maybe that changed something.
Things have got worse as the months gone on, it happens earlier and now it isnt just with eve - dont know if any of you ever try chat rooms at this time but some of those dont have the interactive chat room window connecting at peak times but otherwise you can browse fine. They use so little bandwidth, being just text why on earth would Tiscali stop me from using those but on the same night allow a 600mb revelations download to go through.
The common link between eve and the chat room I dont know other than they require some interactive link between client and server rather than being a purely passive viewing or downloading experience. Im sure some body a lot more technical than me can explain the reason.
At the moment Im just trying to get an alternative SSH provider to see if that proves its that protocol causing the problem as was suggested in this thread.
Maybe some CCP technical guy can comment on what might be different in their set up that could cause Tiscali an issue - or at least confirm there is nothing different to CCP and the WoW set up for example that Im told works fine.

Tiscali admit in there Forums that they have a problem and they will keep us updated, but it would be nice to know what the problem is they are not only getting eve customers mad but other games are not working online. Voice coms is an issue also Ventrilo and Teamspeak which seems to go offline in peak hours. What gets me is I can pull a file in very quickly when downloading but why can I not play eve.
I have just had a response from Tiscali after sending my tracerts in.

Another day has passed, and another 4.5hours of game time have been lost. I rang Tiscali today to get my MAC code, but ended up agreeing to wait for one of their 'Senior Technicians' to give me a call within the next 3 working days to resolve the issue. I know I'm just wasting my time, but just for a giggle I thought I'd go along with this and see what he comes up with.
Any of you who are still not convinced this is not an issue with CCP, I suggest you go have a look at the Tiscali Broadband help forum. There you will find angry messages from Battlefield and Battlefield 2 players. World of Warcraft players. Ultima Online players. Users of Ventrilo and Teamspeak. Chat room users. The list goes on.
All interspersed with the sort of techie responses that neatly avoid getting to point and providing any answers.
I will keep you informed of the outcome of my call.

I have been reading loads of posts, and the problem may lay with your Router. Under these new servers tiscali have the router may need rebooting every 4 days.
If this is the case then I owe someone at Tiscali an apology but going to leave eve on and see if I get booted tonight.

When this problem first surfaced I use to reboot the router it did help for the first few days a bit. ie I could log on only to get kicked of again. Without the reboot I got nothing.
My dealing with Tiscali today has been esculated to the higher networking department at Tiscali or at least so they say and tonight I can connect after 6. Its the first time in over a week. So has EVE's patch done something or have Tiscali fiddled with my connection?. I guess I will never know.
Lets just hope it stays this way.

Here's what I sent the feckers, polite for now....
"I recently signed up for a broadband and phone package after moving into a new house. As an occasional online gamer, I had been led to believe the service I am paying for allowed this at any time. I have, however, found that between the hours of 6 and 10 p.m. I can't do this, a problem that I find very difficult to accept, considering the fact that there is no possible way that I could be considered to be a heavy user nor could it be in any way construed that I have breached any fair usage policy. Given that I am paying a subscription for both the online game and your internet service, neither of which seem to be of any use to me, I would be much obliged if you could tell me why this is happening. Many thanks in advance, Blah blah blah"
Heh, watch this space.....

Hi all, this problem has been ongoing for weeks now and nothing appears to be improving, what I can t understand is why tiscali would block such a low data transfering game (its playable on dial up don t forget). maybe sombody from ccp management could talk to/bribe/blackmail (delete as appropriate) tiscali managment to rectify this situation.

If you're moving ISP, I'd strongly advise that if your primary aim for the connection is gaming, you go with a business ISP even if your download speed is slashed (which it will be, for the same price..). Very few "consumer" ISP's provide a deacent gaming experience these days.

I sent Tiscali a email. they replied they would look into it , i had full access all last night 06.12 but my router was disconnected on coming home today at 16:30 had to power it down, then restart and force reconnect. At 18:09 lost connection on both accounts to eve servers. have since sent another complaint.
In Tiscali T&C they specify they will kick you if you run a port scanner across their network, at possibility of forcing cancelation of contract as last resort (I used to work for CISCO SYSTEMS so have LAN/WAN security checking software( DED EVIL Security Port Scanner).) (that will definatly set off all the Tiscali Admins network security Alarms)
Dunno why we gamers are being hammered because they haven't invested in latest fibre backbone kit. I would have thought the P2P's / Google Video would be the ones to be blocked(they are the ones eating all the Bandwidth), either way they should be able to analyse packets as they pass across the routers and do dynamic blocking.(NTL do it)
I wonder if Eve DEV's could allow game connection to run across port 80,(web page)or could use Multiple IP's eg. to route across the atlantic and use PIPES back to Cluster to get us on that way. if they were to then block port 80 to certain web sites they would be in the S*** with CCP and other Service Providers.
(thinking CCP/(+ other MMorph games Co's) could start class legal action against Tiscali for its customer base being blocked from their sites)
It definatly looks like they are blocking/dropping a lot of big sites at peak times. level3.net is also dropping packets. Tonight it was so bad even general internet access was non-existant till 22:30.
The major BT LLU was carried out back in Aug/Sept i think, since then the service has degraded. they disconnected Norwich/East Anglia at midnight for supposedly 30min, but my connection was down for some 24-36 hours. ADSL only came back up when i screamed at them to reconnect me. usual crappy excuses about it being my kit(which is far better quality than their cheap nasty (chinese made $0.99) usb modem). they eventually had to do an account/line reset from their servers. but refused to accept they had actually done anything. I had a valid BT ADSL line connection but the Tiscali gateway was ignoring my connection attempts(so it could only have been server side).
Hey Any feedback DEV's, we know your checking this tread.
WERE DYING OUT HERE.
ONE HOURS CONNECTION TIME AT 23:00-24:00 daily is Unacceptable.

One of my corp mates sent me this link, bl00dy tiscali!
Having exactly the same problem, I bet a LOT of people are and just think its Eve minimising connections due to the recent patch (server instability), as I did. If they only knew!...
May have to change ISP then, tbh, they (tiscali) are hopeless in every respect. I have been with them about 5 years now, as I took over the contract from an old landlord. Wonder if that will carry any weight.
May go with BT, since they own the lines. Cant see them being as useless..
Can anyone confirm if you still have to pay ś50 to change ISP's? know this was the case a few years ago when I had a 2 month battle with you know who and wanted to change.
I hear good and bad things about plusnet. Bulldog are a joke so they are out. rest im unsure of.
cheers.

Not Sure, I'm using my landlords connection/line ATM.
I told him NOT to go to Tiscali (x WorldOnline/IC24 - [I personally am on their Blacklist ] but he went and did it anyway . If i get the line BLACKLISTED i'll be in the **** with my landlord
I am considering NTL as they can reconnect the existing box real quick, and i woudn't have to go through the greif of waiting ages (if ever) to get the (incompatable Tiscali to BT MAC) along with unknown DT.
Just got the problem with the contract as the landlord doesn't want me here for a whole year and i wont be locked into such a long contract if i'm moving out and forced into using an expendable spare bank account .
