I feel us tiscali customers may be complaining about the wrong people, I am experiencingthe same no log on between 6 -11 gmt(getting status / status unknown) but I never had this problem until Revelations. all other aspects of my internet usage are unchanged the only difference is the eve client and eve server hardware. the only explanation i can think is that these changes are incompatable with tiscali at peak times. whose fault is that? p.s.i will still attempt to change isp if this problem not sorted asap. as i am more attached to eve than my email address.

Exactly. It wasnt until I read this that I noticed the problems started around the time Revelations came on. This is really annoying, and I'm considering changing ISPs anyway, becuase I've been unhappy with Tiscali from the word go.

tell them they have broken there terms and as such your contract is invalid and you wish to leave. see how that goes.
yes this has become an issue around the time of the rev patch but i dont think we can blame ccp for that. it seems to be there policy on packetshaping (what ever the hell that is) i think it's basically there ability to restrict certain ports etc at peak hours. maybe a mod from these fine forums could assist us with possible cause for why the revelations patch may have brought the worst out of tiscali.
for the record it doesnt only affect eve. ventrillo doesnt work. at all. msn doesnt work. at all. apparently wow doesnt work. at all. apparently steam games dont work . at all. :/ looks like the only game i have left on my system that i can actually play is good old battlefield 1942. oh te pain

As long as you have your MAC code it should be painless. I've just changed to http://www.ndo.com

Been having the same problems i sent a nasty letter to them and got this in reply so i will se what happens tomorrow night.
Thank you for contacting Tiscali Customer Support.
I understand from your email that you experiencing slow speed connectivity.
I can realize that you have been greatly inconvenienced by this situation. For your convenience, I am providing you some causes for the slow speed and the troubleshooting steps for the slow speed connections.
I have rebuilt your network connection and I believe that the connection speed has been restored by now. You can restart the computer and power cycle the modem by performing the following steps:
- Turn the modem OFF at the power switch located at the top, side or at the back of the modem. Switch it back on after about five seconds. - USB modems get their power through the USB cable. So on USB modems you need to remove the USB cord and plug it back in after about five seconds to reset the modem's power. - You could also shutdown and restart your PC if you don't want to remove the USB connection. - If there is no power switch on the modem and your modem has a power cable then switch it off at the wall. Make sure not to switch off the power to the PC if it is connected to the same power point. In that case first shutdown your PC and then switch the modem off at the wall.

I just got off the phone with Tiscali's customer care team. They denie that they are restricting my bandwidth and say there is nothing on my file to indicate that they are. They will however escalate my complaint to their manager. They say that it is BT who informs Tiscali if a customer is exceeding their 'Fair Usage'. Apparently they are working on rolling out a 'next generation' network called ULL. This will come out 'sometime next year'. According to Tiscali's customer care team my not being able to connect to Eve in the evenings is simply down to too much traffic passing through my local exchange. ULL will solve this problem as I will be sharing my bandwidth only with other Tiscali users and not BT and other broadband users as well. I have said I expect to see an improvement asap or i will be leaving.

sure It wasnt LLU?
local loop unbundling, If so tiscali have already started this along with other SPs, it means they own and maintain there own equipment in the exchange,
sounds like tiscali trying to baffle with bullpoo |

Tiscalli are not restricting your bandwidth. They are physically blocking certain ports at peek times. Get a new ISP.
I'm with Blueyonder. I run P2P, I host websites, I download 30 gig+ files. I've never had any problems with them and they never restrict or block anything.

Well its all a total mess. My problem started the day Revelations was installed. my tiscali usage isnt great and it still works fine its just EVE. So CCP do look the culprit but looking at these forums it appears not to be the case. Im curious what CCP make of it all. they are getting unfairly slagged of for something that probably isnt there fault and will loose customers. I for one dont pay for a product I cant use. Im sure it is tiscali ive got a email back from them but its not much help, I guess ill have to verbally ubuse them to get it any further. but all they will do is blame CCP so where back to square one.

this is a small snippet from http://www.newnet.co.uk/ sounds like tiscali do exactly the opposite. im guessing the tiscali network has been struggling and so more restrictions to what people can and cant use there service for have been implemented to try and even out the service. ie gimping us gamers between 7-10 to further reduce the load on there network.
quote from newnet.co.uk
Quote: Uncapped service - No traffic shaping or port blocking NewNet does not operate a policy of managing traffic and traffic types on our broadband network. Many other ISPs introduce packet shaping and other measures to limit the available bandwidth so you do not experience your full broadband potential.

Well I am still having troubles as are you all with Tiscali and playing Eve from about 8pm each night. My troubles started weeks ago before Revelations so it is not to do with CCP as far as I am aware.
After much email pingpong this is the latest response from their helpless desk:
"Thank you for contacting Tiscali Customer Support.
I gather from your email that you face a lose connection to the online game server during nights at 8pm.
To resolve your concerns effectively I would advice you that you conduct a trace route test to www.bbc.co.uk (IP address: 12.58.240.111) and also to one of the favorite game servers.
Please follow the steps for conducting the trace route tests:
1. Click on the 'Start' button and select 'Run' link from the menu.
2. Type in ?CMD? in the Open box and click on the 'OK' button - Command window will open.
3. Now, type 'tracert 212.58.240.111' and hit the Enter key on your key board. A series of results would be displayed.
4. Follow the above results and conduct another trace route for your favorite game server.
Please send us both the results. On receiving the above information, we will investigate this issue and suggest you a suitable resolution.
Also, please send us the IP address assigned by Tiscali, to retrieve the IP address follow the steps given below.
1) Click on ?Start?, the ?Run?. Type in ?command? and press enter.
2) In the command prompt window, type in ipconfig/all.
3) The IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway will be displayed.
I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Hope the information provided by me has addressed your concern. For any other queries or concern, feel free to contact us and we will be glad to assist you.
Regards
Tiscali Customer Support" ---------------
If they are blocking ports then I dont know why they dont just say so - sure we would get mad, but if they have us by the short and curlies on contract anyway why would they care?
Anyhoo, will try what they suggested tonight and send the info back but seriously doubt any good will come of it - worst thing is, if they are blocking ports, the info will probably say all is great as it is using a different port to the one they are blocking... no doubt they will then try to tell me that it is probably a BT line issue and I should ring their help desk at national call rate to ensure they get more money out of me for doing nothing.
Grrr. Just wish someone knew a quick and painless way to get out of contract and set up with a reputable and capable ISP.

Astro you seem to be further down the customer service line than me there still trying to blame my equipment at the moment but they do seem to be listening. Which is odd if its the fault.
But lo and behold 5:30 it works fine I go for bite to eat and by 6.15 its gone. When doing all the test they suggest. Ping servers, record internet speed. theres no change. now thats a surprise.

Gah well having read this thread, I guess I now know why I get the connection problems >_>, hadn't noticed it was always between certain times but I do seem to remember things suddenly start working late evening..
Problems occur with Ventrilo also, which is exactly the same timings..
Guess a new ISP is in order.. ___________ ~Fredbob~

Well I sent tiscali all my tracert timings yesterday.
They came back to me today with a letter saying they were passing it up to the supervisor. Judging by the posts here however it dosnt look like much will come of it.
I heard that downgrading to the 2 meg version helps with pings/ latency and the like. (Its not just eve thats unplayble in the evenings, cant play BF2 either.) Can anyone confirm that to be the case?

Tiscali are becoming a big joke in the ISP world they offer cheap internet and cannot keep up the demands of customers, it is a poor show on there part. I have requested my mac code but I feel that is going to take forever.
The next thing is to take it higher up with some sort of ombudsman to get there act into gear.
2 mails I have sent them and they have not responded to one.
Boy I miss EvE, when it comes on its time for bed this is a no win situation.

Very easy, as my 12 months had just passed. They give you a code and then you give the code to the ISP you wanna join with. I picked http://www.names.co.uk/index.html. Its more money, but I've learnt you get what you pay for. I called their tech support line - 2 rings and I was talking to a very helpful person straight away.
Good luck!
