Just posted on Tiscali Eve support sticky. Wanting all people with problems to give feed back.
Quote "This is just typical. I'm just writing to the team about this (dropping eve) and I received an email from them. Reads as follows:
"I have just made some changes that should resolve the issue. Can you please get the customers to retest and get back to us ".
Instead of having to post a list of users and ask them to feed back, this concerns all of you in this thread. This is across all network platforms now. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is either the end of this or at least somewhere near (but not holding my breath). __________________ Happy New Year

Please note if you are going onto Tiscali forums for first time you have to register and get a mail back from the support team before you can post.
Also make sure you are logging into the forums not just the Tiscali services, they can be different buttons.

So who can recommend a good UK isp that doesn't block ports?

Don't bother phoning, save your money, read the thread, and post on Tiscali site, and please don't go banging on about blocking ports , when thats not the problem, it misleads people.
If you want a MAC code , go to the forum get the ticket number from the start of the Eve support sticky thread and quote that, it should not be a problem.

As a long term Pipex user I started experiencing this problem on Tuesday 8th Jan and have had the same issue every evening this week until after 12 midnight when I have been able to connect on both the occaisions I have tried. I still can not get a connection @8.15pm this evening although there is a suggestion on the Tiscali boards that the problem may be resolved.
Never had this problem previously so can only assume that this is as a result of the merging of some policies / technologies / environments since Tiscali took over Pipex. I assume it works during the day but like a large number of Eve players I have to work. Have logged this with Pipex support both by phone and mail but they seem blissfully unaware of the problem despite me advising them that there is an extensive thread on this on the Tiscali Forums. I have even given them the name of the Tiscali technical administrator (Brett) who seems to be genuinely trying to resolve the problem.
I don't have access to the Tiscali forums as I only have a Pipex email address so if anybody could x-post this to their forums to let them know that at least some Pipex customers are still experiencing the problem I'd be very grateful.

I'll be requesting my MAC code on Monday.
Never had a problem with Pipex before this, have been a customer since 2002 Tiscali takes over and it's all shot to hell in no time.
The tech support moron I spoke to is in no doubt about how I feel about Tiscali and their atrocious customer support.
Pity I cant login coz I really want to kill something atm

I have asked Brett from Tiscali if he will give pipex people a place to contact him, bearing in mind he's not customer complaints, nor from the same company (organisation maybe), but someone who I believe is trying to help. He would be a brave man to say yes.
If you want to know why this is happening look here,
Wiki traffic shaping , is this, click here
Read Operators often distinguish three broad types of network traffic: Sensitive, Best-Effort, and Undesired.
Sensitive Traffic Sensitive traffic is traffic the operator has an expectation to deliver on time. This includes VoIP, online gaming, video conferencing, and web browsing. Shaping schemes are generally tailored in such a way that the Quality of Service of these selected uses is guaranteed, or at least prioritized over other classes of traffic. This can be accomplished by the absence of shaping for this traffic class, or by prioritizing sensitive traffic above other classes.
Peer-to-peer (P2P) traffic is particularly troublesome for traffic shaping efforts for ISPs because it is designed to use any and all available bandwidth which impacts QoS-sensitive applications (like online gaming) that use comparatively small amounts of bandwidth.
and of course the Tiscali thread where he openly says it's that.
They do the traffic shaping , we got caught up in the why's.
Perhaps blame the torrents, or the TV player downloaders.
Whichever way, ccp have said their game is working ok , not their problem.
So it's up to us to hassle and get the ISP's to accept gamers are of little harm and let us through. Relentless nagging of anyone who will listen, is my prescription

From Tiscali Forums quote "HI,
Well, it would seem that the last update did not fix this (no s**t sherlock) . I have reported this back to the team and asked what the next move is. They have been and continue, talks with the vendor on this. When they have the next installment, I'll let you know. This doesn't mean I'll update this thread every 5 mins though!
I'm sorry, but the Pipex folks have to stick to the Pipex support process. We can't do anything for them here. I know a few have posted on here already but, as I said, I can't help them. __________________ Happy New Year

Ugh, I'd heard about bandwidth limits and packet shaping for ages on forums but this is the first time i've been directly affected by reta~rded isps

Yes using themselves and their subsids, Tiscali hoovered up, Pipex, Eclipse, Toucan, Nildram and Bulldog may be some more .
The problem is well known traffic shaping issue, not port blocking.

Still having problems and have had consistently for over a week now. Has anyone actually managed to get a formal statement from Pipex or Tiscali on what they are doing to resolve this? Is Tiscali management actually even aware of this problem?
If anybody from Pipex is actually reading this, perhaps they would like to highlight to their own support team that simply ignoring this problem and hoping it will magically disappear is unlikely to work...

Thanks Snaith - have read all this and the Tiscali forums posts and appreciate you have been actively raising the profile of this issue both here and on the Tiscali forums. I understand that Tiscali have accepted this is an issue in their traffic shaping implementation but right now I'm more interested in what they are actually doing to fix it, when they expect to make this fix and more importantly what the next step will be if their next theory doesn't work (as the last one didn't). I'm also very interested in how high a profile this has within Tiscali as it doesn't appear (from the surface at least) to be getting the attention it needs. Since this problem did not exist for Pipex customers (certainly for me and as far as I can tell for others as well) until very recently but is a well known and documented issue for Tiscali customers dating back to at least Oct 6th, I don't think it is unreasonable to expect the company to provide this information.

Which ISP's are not owned by Tiscali? This is stupid, the company should be forced to sell the same product under the same name.

Ok , Pipex has got caught as they are being moved over to utilise Tiscali systems/equipment, running a pingplotter test will usually show a hop involving Tiscali servers.
Getting enough people together to have a voice is a pain , as most swap ISP's so Tiscalis "problem" goes away
As for getting someone with clout to champion the cause,it has been difficult, though am still pushing some newspapers and TV programs, if the numbers increase by the end of the week , maybe an en masse mail hit to some selected people / groups might get noticed.
ofcom says most of this is covered in Tiscali T and C's so they can in effect do what they want with your connection.
Tiscali also say it's not a priority to get fixed, and this has not been running since October as some think, but for over a year now, but did not affect as many people as now.
Anyone wishing to help move this on, please feel free to join in.

Well,
Long time reader and suffering from the same outtages described in depth as a PIPEX customer. Not been able to connect sine 6PM tonight, poor show PIPEX.
I have submitted a very detailed "ticket" to the Pipex support people as per their request, and can only but hope it helps. I have also signed the petition listed above and well, lets see if my tax money can be spent on something good for a change.

Couldn't agree with you more, and have seen it, people who think it's Eve thats screwed and quit, when it was their isp, it's because as you say they didn't know.
CCP could highlight that a bit more , esp at mo since it's particlarly bad.
The console players of other online games are slowly catching on.
One has to ask though, what is the difference between wow, lotr etc and the bigger popular games, that does not seem to get them shaped, and Eve that attracts the attention of the isp software.
Could we not emulate their packet systems and dodge the issue as they seem to do.
Or cannot Eve client encrypt and send , decrypt at eve server, so we can play and miss that shaping menace.?

I did ask Tiscali support forum if they'd give you a contact point, they said a flat no , use Pipex support.
Them we had a direct question last night from MK Brett (Tiscali Support) asking for the number of Pipex people caught up in this, which is a bit of a U Turn.
So I made some threads etc and will get back to him some point today or in the morning.
Some people have been overly enthusiastic with their choice of words on the Tiscali forums and have got banned, and there is also a deletion process, according to their rules about posting in other peoples complaints. So I have to be aware of these and push Tiscali in a sensible way.
This was the Tiscali reply to me asking, quote
"Starcop, I'm sorry, but the Pipex folks have to stick to the Pipex support process. We can't do anything for them here. I know a few have posted on here already but, as I said, I can't help them. __________________ Happy New Year
