Cool story bro but it's just a game. No one actually gets hurt and no one actually dies. You make it sound like you and your like are some kind of e-rambos.

4) What good spot? Every belt is camped from their own admission.
5) What is freely available at my disposal that will stop them from ganking me as I mine ice?
6) Your right, this game "doesn't work like that" which is why I made this post so maybe someday it will work like that.
7) I hate it when games try to force me to do things. I'm the one paying the bills. I like hauling, doing missions, building stuff. I love 99% of eve. Why should I pay to be forced to do something I don't want? I don't want to be a cog. I want to be me and enjoy the game that I pay money for. Thats why I don't pay people to hit me with hammers. I wouldn't like it. 1) Being aligned. Keeping an eye on your scanner. Fitting a tank. Keeping track of known gankers. Keeping track of the map statistics. 2) Not a retriever to begin withGǪ Other than that, shield extender (and rigs), suitcase. 3) He'll show up on the overview long before he can lock you, and he'll show up on scanner long before he shows up on the overview. 4) No, they just camp in Gallente highsec space. 5) All of the above. 6) How about, instead of ruining the game, you find a game that works the way you want it to work? 7) Tough. See above.
1) I was aligned. First time I warped the second I saw him. Nada
2)You can't fit a retriever as a tank. Most you're gunna get is a few hundred more points. Not near enough to make a real difference.
3) No, he will not show up on the overview long before he will lock me. I was paranoid and watching, and one second nothing, the next a big red skull seemingly 2 feet in front of me.
4) I need to fuel a gallente tower. I don't have other choices.
5) I like 99% of eve. No, I LOVE 99% of eve. I played years ago too and the griefers ruined it then too. This game can be what both sides want it to be. The 0.0 crowd are the ones who want to force people into 0.0. The high sec people don't want to force people into high sec. I don't understand why the aggressive types are so against us non aggressive types. You play your way, let me play mine. Blunty there is just no other game that come close to eve when it comes to things I enjoy. Alternately there is no other game that causes me as much frustration from boneheaded design decisions.
6) Tough? People will take you much more seriously and value your opinion much more when they don't feel like you're attacking them.

gankers do pay the price. lose of sec status, loss of the ship (no more insurance for Concorded ships). But they gain your tears. Stop enabling them.

Something doesn't sound right here. So incase this isn't a troll (dunno, doesn't seem like it)... I've read most of this thread (skipped a couple pages) and I'm wondering if there's some missing information. It takes a very long time to raise sec status. So long that a lot of people just give up (i.e. - me) and end up at -10. You're only really an outlaw at -5.0, which is when you turn red. The other security status to system rating works like this:
Players with -2.0 or worse will be attacked in 1.0 systems Players with -2.5 or worse will be attacked in 0.9 systems Players with -3.0 or worse will be attacked in 0.8 systems Players with -3.5 or worse will be attacked in 0.7 systems Players with -4.0 or worse will be attacked in 0.6 systems Players with -4.5 or worse will be attacked in 0.5 systems
(via - http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Security_Status)
The lower the security rating in the system, the slower the naval response time, giving prepared outlaws an option to skirt some systems to get to other lowsec pockets, or as the case has become, time enough to jump a ship in through a gate, warp, shoot, die, etc. If he's coming out of a station, then he either already knows exactly where you are already with a cloaked alt or bookmark (bookmark means you're sitting in exactly the same spot - that's not a good idea), or his sec status isn't low enough to be shot at in a 0.5 system. Even in point 5 systems the best you can really get away with jumping through a gate is at best a fast istabbed cruiser. Undocking from a station generally takes longer to warp off. Are you sure he's suicide ganking and not doing something else?
My advice: - Think it through - Find another ice belt - Lay a trap (best way imo. catch him enough and he'll consider you a harder target) - Tank your boat (pay attention to what damage type he does) - leave your combat drones out and when comes in, target him. you'll get his km when he gets Concorded - Watch for his alt (Local channel) - Align out like someone suggested. An aligned ship is almost impossible to grab. There are two types. Soft aligns (not moving) and Hard Aligns (moving - generally around 75% of your top speed). - Higher mercs to deal with him
If this has happened 5 different times in the same belt, then you're doing something wrong. Not saying you're dumb, just maybe something you missed or aren't experienced with. |

Or more accurately, there are two types: not aligned (not moving) and aligned (moving). The way the physics engine in EVE works, if you're not moving, you have no direction, and getting into warp takes exactly the same amount of time no matter which direction you want to go.
Soft aligns do not exist.
Mistress Motion wrote:Hmmm. Do 'roids follow you within mining lazor range when you are aligned at 75% to somewhere? No, but you're moving at (at most) 75m/s in a Retriever, so with 10km range, you have just over 4 minutes of flying before getting out of range. Align to a celestial/station one direction. When you're nearly out of range align the opposite direction. Use something to reduce your max speed, like Trimarks, and alt with webs, whatever. Or set your speed to 50% or whatever. I don't mine so I'm not up on all the techniques. At least I tried instead of posting useless sarcasm. |

If you're not moving at >70% of max speed, you're not aligned properly. If you're not moving at all you're "Passively Aligned" which is the same as "Going fuckall anywhere fast." Passive align is the most pervasive myth in EVE after "Hisec is Safe Space"
Quote: Please, share your retriever tank build with me.
Tippia said you can double your EHP, which is true. You assumed he meant you could survive a determined attacker which isn't true (and not what he said). A determined attacker WILL kill you. All you have to do to avoid dying is to avoid making yourself a target. Goonswarm has publicly and loudly announced their plan to choke supply of OxyTopes down to nothing in order to raise the prices of the massive stockpiles they hold (specifically to profit from the price spike). They've been doing this for months now. In EVE as everywhere else, Knowledge is power.
Quote: Do you even play this game? Exiting warp takes awhile? He was in a frigate.
No matter what size ship you are in, you decelerate from warp at the same rate. Because of this you appear on grid a few seconds before you can do anything.
Quote: What is wrong with space that disallows repeated ganking? As long as the potential profits are low, I don't see the problem. Even with the inflated prices its not like I would be getting rich mining ice.
Ganking has two consequences, 1. You Lose your ship, 2. You slowly move towards becoming an outlaw. If someone has decided to accept those consequences, it is their right to attempt to gank you. The Oxy prices are high because people like you get ganked. Mine somewhere else if you want to be safer.
