If your client is crashing we suggest you completely uninstall your current install of the client and reinstall the latest full build ( found here: http://www.eve-online.com/download/ ) After doing so install the optional patch we released before christmas ( found here: http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/evepatch28296-28505.exe ) Make sure you do not use any of the old client's files with the new one, doing so will cause the problem to persist.
In some cases the cause of the problem is soundcard related, lowering hardware acceleration can help.
1. Press the Start button and select "run" 2. Type dxdiag in the message box and press enter. 3. When dxdiag has started press the "Sound" tab. 4. Lower the acceleration to none and run the game, if there are no distortions move the acceleration up one bar and run the game again. Continue this until you get distortions and lower the bar to it's last working position.
If you have EAX enabled anywhere in your soundcard settings, disable it. EAX has been known to cause troubles with Eve.
If lowering hardware acceleration does not work, disabling sound may do the trick. Simply add Audio=0 to your ..\CCP\Eve\Cache\prefs.ini file.
If your computer is completely crashing the fault is most likely with a driver or hardware on your computer, you'll need to check the memory dump file to know what caused it.
We'll update this thread with new information as they come, if you have anything to add to this thread please do so but please keep it to solving crashes.
ALL off topic posts will be deleted.

Edited by: Baleorg on 24/01/2007 15:52:36 prior to reinstalling the whole client it might worth a try to just delete the cache first. Also be sure to delete evefolder\cache\browser\img\*.* aswell since some cachecleaners dont clear that content, and that causes some crashes related to jumpgatecrash.
If you get random Reboots and/or Bluescreens, disable the Automatic Reboot.
To disable Automatic Rebooting, rightclick "My Computer", hit propertys. From there you hit "advanced" and the Bottom Option "Start&Restore" . untick "Automatic Restart". Also sometimes you might have trouble with your RAM (most noticeable when trying to patch and getting corrupt things all the time) Try MEMTEST.ORG, download the iso, burn it on cd (or rw) and boot from that and let it run 1 cycle

Edited by: Foai on 24/01/2007 20:35:08 Well i resently tried to install eve, and it ran perfectly the first night i played it. But the next day it kept crashing on me. Every single time it happened, a blue screen apeared and it said something like this:
Windows closed down the program in order not to harm the computer.
Machine_check_exception
Deactivate some og the configurations for BIOS memory e.g. caching.
(I don't know if it's propperly translated, I get it all in danish, and im not really up to date with computer slang/ )
Bottem line is, i have no idea what this means, and i don't know what to do. Do this make any sense at all? Plz help, im hooked, and i wanna play this amazing game
Best regards Foai
PS: I did the acceleration of the sound thingie, but it didnt help. Im currently dl'ing the new client, but i dont know how to do the cache thing mentioned in post #2

its the cache folder. but if you remove the game and delete all the folders (assuming you dont have any tools there you need) then its the same as clearing the cache

Ok i removed it all, so that sould be ok then, right?
I have nvidia, and yeah, a lot of numbers appear when it happens. I tried to look for updates for the graphics card and for the soundcard, but without any luck.

so. what board you got? did you try hyperion driver? we need DATA if we can try to troubleshoot, not each post 1 sentence with little data.. blows up the thread for nothing ;)

Hi, I'm having constant download issues. :(

I recently got a new PC, I only downloaded EVE on to it a couple of weeks ago. Is reinstalling going to help me?

I didn't have distortions to start with.

What is EAX? How do I check if I have it enabled?

Man this sounds extreme. :p

This is happening as well, sorry to be an idiot but where do I find the memory dump?
Thanks

I redid the client for the 3rd time and let it upgrade to the patch that is found when you restart the game after initial install but I am still disconecting for the server all the time. The screen stays active, music or background noise is active but I did notice training timers stop. When I click on another training item I am told "Server Connection Lost" and brought back to the login screen and I can log right back in.
Help a friend asked me to come back to Eve after leaving in some time ago and if I keep dropping server connection like this I cant contine with it. As a side note I play a number of online games including some Beta things and never lose connection. I do have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS installed on this system but it is the same sound card I used when I originally played Eve without a problem.
Thanks,
David

i guess you got a router. Did you try restarting router? specialyl when you run p2p software it uses up the available ports quite fast, reducin gthe ports usuage might help also some router seem to close connetion to "non used ports" here and then, you need to disable that you could try a steady "slow" ping to 87.237.38.200 to keep the port open, perhaps that works

Thanks for input I removed the router Linksys BFR41 this morning and hooked direct to the modem and no disconnect. I do have another router to install a brand new WRTG54 unit. Hopefully that one will not have the issue. I could not find anything on setup of routers and possible port settings though. Is there information somewhere for this?
Thanks again.....

redownloaded 2 times and installed the current patch. turned the sound slider on dxdiag down all the way. no router. I still crash within 5 minutes of logging on. Any ideas? There is a 13 page thread on this already, perhaps the last patch messed something up? I'm only on the free trial so if I can't connect for more than 5 minutes, there is no way I'll be able to play.

try to disable your [prohably] internal soundcard via devicemanager (just deactivate, not deinstall) for a sec and run the client if it works then

I was able to remedy the problem yesterday with a ping plotter, but today I crash when trying to lock on a target. I'm assuming this new issue will be fixed with the patch. Crossing my fingers at least.

hard tosay :-P its odd that you crash when using pingplotter if you got an AMD / Athlon based board, did you install the Hyperion Via-Drivers for your System? it has AGP and some other drivers makeing the system usually a bti more stable than the windows default driver youre prohably using. for the vidcard, you using the catalyst or the OmegaDrivers ? i prefer the omergadrivers for my radeon, although i got an 9800 pro.
if i knew what background programs you are running it could show where another problem might be :-P

Soundmax is the onboard soundcard for your computer (it's also known as a realtek). It's also known to be incompatable with eve. I see posts about this bug every single day and have the problem myself but CCP doesn't really say anything about it other then the standard "upgrade your drivers" line(I've got the latest drivers and mobo bios and it still BSODs). If you disable the sound in eve you will stop getting BSODs. If you really want sound. You'll have to either buy a soundblaster card, since they are known to be compatable enough with eve to not BSOD your system.

well, iam unsure, but i think ccp does "somethign".. in todays patch i noticed they modified some audio related files ( including audio.dll ) so they might try to stabilize it, but no guarant it works now or so, just an observation
