noooooo...
i started my trial about 4 days ago.. and had the most awesome 3.5 days playing EVE.. until it just started crashing on me.
i haven't changed anything on my system to make it go nuts.. but anyway.. yeah i am suffering withdrawal symptoms now cos i am sick of EVE restarting my machine. it seems to happen randomly, anywhere from the login prompt up to sometime into the game. great game.. shame about the stability. just glad i didn't buy it yet :P
machine specs in case anyone cares:
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ ASROCK 939DUAL-SATA2 M/B 2GB KingMAX DDR400 256MB Leadtek WinFast PX7600GT PCI-E
i've tried audio on/off, changing video settings, etc, etc.. EVE is the only game/application that crashes on my system.
good luck with it.. maybe i'll try again with the next patch that comes out. or if i do solve the problem, i'll leave another note here.

Edited by: Deracus Stargazer on 02/07/2007 17:06:53 Edited by: Deracus Stargazer on 02/07/2007 17:06:36 same problem here... wrote an official bug report and also made a petition...
Downloaded the trial and played around a day without any problems...and from there on the game crashes to desktop again, again and ....again...itŠs so anyoing... Thought it would be a great game for me and i had a lot of fun with it until now...but under these conditions, i donŠt even consider paying for it...
It drops to desktop when i warp, when i encounter enemies in deadzones...when i do something in space to sum it up. Most of the time the game doesnŠt give me more than 3-5 minutes without crashing...but sometimes i can play for almost 20 minutes...and then the game startes to be kind of fun...(donŠt even think of the torture it created finishing the tutorial and the first 10 missions from the minmatar agent...)
I tried everything iŠve read in the forums...sound disabled...hardware-acceleration decreased...play in windowed mode...
I canŠt find anything to reduce the problem...
The logserver says the same everytime the game crashes:
Exefile SHUTDOWN Crashed 0xC0000005, minidump written in...bla bla bla...
everytime the damn 0xC0000005 Error...and no slight hint on what is going wrong...
Strange enough...if i donŠt leave the station, i can leave the game running for hours...
As there is no real solution for the problem and it exists already for months, i donŠt think, that there will be a future in eve for me after my trial expires... Damn...i really started to love that game...but under these conditions it isnŠt anywhere near playable...
edit:

Edited by: Ila Lien on 02/07/2007 19:06:20 Been having the same problems as lots of others...Connection Lost, client closes and reboots to reconnect. I used to have no problems running 2 or even 3 clients. If I leave a client idle for more than a minute or 2 and am doing other things on the computer (like dealing with the 2nd client or browsing on firefox) the client stays open like nothing's wrong, but the character is logged. It's not until I go to load something like character info or the market that the connection lost screen pops up and closes the client. Have only been having this problem since the last patch.
I went through every folder (Vista has cache and other stuff in 3 different places now) and deleted out the cache, old chat logs, game logs, screenshots, etc. I left the settings folder as it was (mainly cause I didn't feel like redoing all my windows and overview settings). I deleted the entire cache folder (after backing up the info just in case) out of the vista user/appdata/local/ccp folder. I also deleted each of the subfolders in program files/ccp/eve/xxx so the game would have to reset defaults. In addition to these, vista has more eve files located in your documents/eve/. I cleared out these folders (your chat logs and screenshots). So now what I had left was the settings folder in appdata/local/ccp, 2 cleared out folders of capture and logs in documents/eve, and under program files/eve...no folders at all. So far, no crashes despite idling in the client while working in other programs. Haven't tested idling the entire computer yet, will let you know. --

More things I have found to help me.
allocate more Swap / pagefile room. My 1 gig system has a 1 gig swapfile that is static (set minimal and max pagefile size to the same 1000). This seemed to have helped. Also, defragmentation is a good idea, as making sure you play on a wired network . No wifi!
Im the girl momma warned you about..

Edited by: Danil Montagu on 06/07/2007 03:36:04 I installed the game, created a character, and played the first few missions before I started getting BSODs during every warp attempt. Now the client won't start at all--after the splash screen disappears, exefile.exe appears to be minimized in the task bar. I have to manually terminate the process to make it go away.
I've wiped and reinstalled the game, updated all of my drivers, turned off sound, audio acceleration, etc. Nothing works. Any ideas? It was a really fun game while it worked... I'd love to play it. Heh.

I have the exact same problem as Ila Lien, only with Windows XP. The 'connection to server lost's have appeared after the latest patch. Nothing before that. Just reinstalled the client, and will give an update in a few days.

Realtek has released A new set of drivers as of 6/28/2007. The latest driver revision number is R1.70
This patch does not help.
I have an Asus P5W DH motherboard with the latest bios and an realtek HD audio chipset, and have tried updating to the latest bios from asus as well as the latest realtek drivers. If you have a realtek souncard you are still out of luck.
I am able to consistently BSOD my machine by having anyone target me, enabling armor reppers, or use any number of modules that create noise.
I have filed bug reports with logservers, DX diags, core dumps from the OS, and after 5 months still nothing from ccp on this? ------ I am in blood! Stepp'd in so far that, should I wade no more, it would be as tedious as going over. -MacBeth |

Only EVE does it.
It is a known issue.
There is no fix even after 5 months.
CCP says its realtek's fault.
You can prevent the crashes by disabling sound entirely, or crippling it horribly by turning down hardware acceleration to basic mode. BEWARE! Lowering hardware acceleration on your sound card will have adverse effects in other applications that use hardware acceleration, as they will be unable to use said hardware acceleration. ------ I am in blood! Monitor is a Viewsonic VX922.
I have another account and I don't have any problems at all with that one. Any suggestions?

I noticed that I have the problem is with my entire internet connection (doesn't manifest with regular browsing, since the pages are always loaded in a short burst). Atm my best guess is that my anti-virus software's (finnish Elisa's internet security program by f-secure) regular updates are causing the short break in the connection. I disabled the update. The problem persisted. Then I noticed that the software always checked wether there was a connection or not before updating. Now I disabled that. Another update coming shortly despite that this isn't actually EVE-related anymore, but I suppose other's might check into this, if all else fails. And I know there are quite a few =P
Update - Still brakes the connection at the end of every hour.

I thought mine might be connection related, but it doesn't seem to affect the other computer on our network. I run through a router and use static ips for every computer on the network. DHCP is disabled and the only program I use that checks for a connection are automatic updates. I've tried disabling all other internet programs and done what I could to reset the network. I'm at a loss here. --

Hey, all you people that are talking abou computer restarts, this is actually a BSOD ("blue screen of Death") that you are getting. Be default Win XP is configured to automatically reboot your machine in case of a blue screen - since there is nothing you can do but stare at it, if you get one. You should try to disable the automatic reboot (Control panel-> System->Advanced Tab->StartUp and Restore Settings->disable "automatic reboot"). Then you can have a look at what the Blue screen is saying and perhaps post it here?
I am also facing this issue, I was facing at the first days of my Eve Trial, then for no apparent reason it appeared to be fixed, so I kept playing and I upgraded my account to a paying one 2 days ago. Bad for me cause now all of a sudden the problem is back!!! I get a BSOD everytime a pirate locks on to me. Unfortunately nothing in the BSOD is readable, instead it appears as gibberish characters. Most likely this is because I don't have the English Version of Win XP, but a local (greek) one. The only thing I can read on that screen is something along the lines of "0x00000000 STOP" among a ton of other unreadable characters.

So I just donwloaded the realtek drivers from http://www.realtek.com.tw
after installation and reboot I also installed the patch suggested in this thread: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=503867
and also turned hardware acceleration for sound down to basic level in the dxdiag. So far looks like my problem is solved! Maybe you guys should also give it a shot. (My soundcard was actually onboard the mo.bo. but this still apears to work).

and it turns out I was a little too fast to post this. Today I tried to login my second character and the BSOD turned up again, even though the above steps are in effect. I disabled sound and I could play normally ;/

I am having he same problem and only since the last patch was deployed. I use Windows XP and I have done the usual delete every possible folder involving eve thing and reinstall a fresh one. I constantly loose conection with the server and Eve is the only game I have the problem with. Im at a total loss as to what I should do. Seems odd that it only started after the patch and I havent had problems for a couple years prior to this.

I have the exact same issue. Game crashes without any error messages. This started happening right after the small patch after Rev2. I cant play for longer then 15min before it crashes, always at random for no apparent reason. The only place where I'm safe is at the station. Havn't been able to do anything except switching skills for the past week. Please help! All other games work just fine and I havnt changed anything in particular. I've tried to reinstall the game on several hardrives, updated the video drivers, fooled around with most settings and defragmented. To no avail..

Ok. I am having problems! on the desktop puters we have NO probs at all with this game. But.. the laptop. now that's another matter <sigh>. It freezes up at about 75% as it loads the game, after the char is loaded, and then it's loading you into the actual game. I have disabled the sound card, I have disabled manymany programs. It is easily able to play this game according to the specs for both min and suggested requirements. Any suggestions? If the answer has benn already posted, my apologies, but I have been wading through pages and pages of probs and suggestions. I did do many of the suggestions for the frame rate problem, as I thought that was the problem.
One more bit of info for you just in case it matters, We managed to get it loaded when out in space, but then it froze (this was before trying all these diff things) but when in a station it wouldn't load. but it's still not loading, so I hope you can really give me some good suggetions to get that stupie laptop going.
Thanks for reading my rambly stuff.

CCP I'm really disapointed with you.
You have here hundreds of people with problems with YOUR game and it seems that you just don't really care. Besides, WE players pay you to play this game. The minimum you should do is get your arse over here and answer us god damnit.
I'm not mad cos my game crashes every 1 hour. I'm mad cos there are alot more people here with problems and you do what? "zzzzzzzzzz". I'm sure you have alot more problems to fix, but hell, can't you have a quick peak over this thread?
Thank you if you read this and start helping us in here.

I'm holding out on tonight's patch fixing it. Seems Eve and sound effects don't mix which is a crying shame as its one of the only games I've ever played with the sound effects on.

Well after yesterday's patch, it seems it fixed my lost connections issue. I was able to keep 1 client up without a hitch after leaving the computer idle several times. Brought up a 2nd client and seemed to work perfectly. So whatever they did, it seems they've fixed that issue...hopefully it's still okay after the patch today. Here's to hoping. *crosses fingers* --

The latest patch has brought a big problem. It appears the client is now "leaking". Its eating up all available system memory and growing up to well over 1-1.5 gigs in size. That degrades performance ALOT. The fellow players i play with are getting the same thing. This is just a heads-up to the community, as i've already reported this to CCP. |
