argh! what is it about banks and their inability to actually be useful.
Are Euro's acceptable in Iceland? "Dont know" Would there be a conversion fee were I getting another currency converted? "Dont know" If I had travelers cheques in Euros, could they be cashed for Krona? "Dont know" Will *your* travelers cheques be cashable in Iceland? "Dont know" Would it be sensible to get some Krona in cash before I leave? "Dont know" Can you give me cash in Krona? "Probably not"
I should probably just email Iceland Air. THey must know what services are available at the airport... but with so much frustration I had to ***** somewhere :)
Anyhow, looking forward to the trip - I'm sure that with the modern marvels of internet banking, all will be fine. Any other New Zealanders who might be going (I saw there was one posting earlier), let me know if there are any smart things I can do to minimise my fee's and conversions.
Why cant overseas travel be stress-free?

The currency is ISK, and there are ATM's at the airport, I know they take visa and mastercard at least. I'm not sure if they take euros though, some places might but if you're taking euro I suggest you exchange it at a bank or something.

I want to go Wednesday - Sunday, but the only option is book it all separately and pay much more in the process. Can someone take a look at this.
you can also try icelandexpress for flights and book a hotel on your own. maybe not as comfortable ...

aah thanks for the replies. Google already answered all my questions for me - i was really just complaining that the banks 'foreign currency person' seemed unable to be helpful to me (indeed they didnt even know what currency was used in Iceland - I had to tell them).
But its all good - the main thing was whether Euro could be exchanged at the airport for Krona. The bank recommended I get my travelers cheques in pounds or USD, but that incurs currency conversion fees for all the times I am in Europe!
It seems credit card is a good option with low fees for use overseas, so I might rely heavily on it for the Iceland portion of my holiday. Luckily I got the early-bird package and my flights/accomodation are already paid for :)

Unless you're planning on staying for a long time in Europe I don't think travelers cheques are worth it, but since you seem to plan on a longer vacation it might be for you. As I understand it they're mainly good because they're safer than cash. But I couldn't really give you any advice since the first and last time I used those were in 96.
There is at least one ATM at Iceland Airport and two bank locations of some sort though I'm not sure if the banks are outside the secure area (one ATM is though), there's a bank office in the Nordica building with an ATM, so getting cash in Iceland shouldn't be any problems if you have visa or mastercard at least.

I think your Sisters of Eve program is a great idea, one more games should consider to avoid the hated "wife-aggro" that occurs in gaming homes now and then. lol
I do have a question about it. I sometimes play Eve but most often don't; whereas my hubby usually has his account going on along with another monthly game.
Could I be a member of Sisters of Eve as well as a sometimes player? Or do you have to be one or the other. I would not give my account or my two characters up even though I don't play them that often.

Also - HELP! How do I put my character portrait in my Avatar and post a Signature? Thanks
Sisters of EVE is basically only a Fanfest thing, where you take a jeep tour and go to a swimming facility during the day while your significant other goes to the Fanfest. The Sisters pass gives you access to the Fanfest after 18.00 though, so you can attend it in the evenings.
Your portrait updates automatically after a while, and if you press settings in the left hand menu you'll be able to put something in your signature.

What can we expect in the form of "news" this year?
Will it be as interesting as last year when you announced that you had merged with White Wolf, where walking in stations and promising a World of Darkness MMO?
I got a friend in the press business that isnt going this year since you havent announced anything interestign in a press point of view yet... Will it be worth for them to attend this year?
And allso... Whatever happened to those cool printed maps that where circling around last year? They where awsome and some of us have been waiting since Revelations to get our hands on a copy...

For those of you who asked us about Fanfest packages from London, Icelandair has now added packages for 4 and 5 nights, the 2 nights package remains but if you don't want to miss the last Fanfest day you'll need at least 4 nights. This also gives you some time to visit other sites in Iceland and Reykjavik of course.

I was looking over the bus schedule for Straeto system. I can guess most from using the bus system in US cities most of the information, but I'm not sure what 'Min. yfir Heila Klst' is supposed to mean. I'm guessing either how often the bus comes, or travel time along the route. But I have a hard time believing it is within an accuracy of minutes and seconds

'Min. yfir Heila Klst' means "minutes past the hour" and they are referring when the bus arrives. If the bus arrives 15-35-55 than that means it always arrives 15 minutes past, 35 minutes past and 55 minutes past. You can also just use the english version of the system at http://www.bus.is/?c=forsida2

With the addition of WW, are there any plans at all to have a US-based fanfest? I'm not sure what the percentages are across span of subscribers that reside in the US, but I would imagine it's got to be a big slice of pie.
I'm not even the hardcore Ever'r I used to be, but I'd still make a weekend out of a US Eve fanfest. You should hold it some place central, like Saint Louis.
...and not just because I live in Saint Louis.

This should have been labeled 'Devs promote fanfest'. What is the point of a 'live dev blog' if all dev related questions result in the answer 'Can't say anything, go to fanfest!'.

The point of hosting a Fanfest Live Dev Blog would be to have people ask questions about the Fanfest. Live Dev Blogs are always about a certain topic, not a ask the devs random questions event...

I don't believe so, but anything can happen in the future. Although considering our US office is in Atlanta I'm guessing that's where it would be held.

I can understand that if you arnt a hardcore EVEr'r anymore you find less intresst in going to Iceland for a couple of days, a week... But if you where a hardcore EVEr'r it shouldnt be a problem justifying the 900 dollars (Seattle - Miniapolis - Reykjavik and back) for a flight to get to the Fan Fest... The hotel on the other hand could be quite steep if you are looking at Nordica and quality around there... But I'm sure there are cheaper options...
And I am allso a bit against having a US based official Fan Fest unless they do one in Europe aswell, I know Iceland is part of Europe but if its any comfort its allmost as hard to get to Iceland from most parts in Europe as it is from for example Seattle... Except the total traveltime ofcourse... But part of what makes the Fan Fest so special and fun is that it is "on top of the world"... There is quite the magic attatched with going to Iceland for a game event...
So in my eyes the best thing is if you, your corp or someone else who is US based arrange there own Fan Fest and send an invitation or request to the Atlanta office for them to attend... I am sure that there are many CCP employes who wouldnt mind having a business trip (read: payed vecation) to somewhere in the US... Despite what most people say and think about the US, most of it is very nice and friendly...

I would recommend ordering earlier than that to securing your Fanfest Access Pass. We generally pack these things ahead of the Fanfest so I'm not sure how long the ordering is available.
Originally by: General StarScream or is it a set limet on amount of passes sold? and a pre time you need to order befor,???
The Fanfest location can only take so many people, and that's where the limit is. As I said above, I would recommend that you order in advance and not on the very last day, since we can't guarantee that it will stay open. You will also need to order flight and hotel in advance so you might as well order the access pass then.
Originally by: General StarScream and whats the adress to the fan fest partplace, i would like to find my own hotel, i dont like 4 stars, 2/3 stars are offen alot better.
Laugardalsh÷ll Engjavegur 8 104 Reykjavik
Originally by: General StarScream what do we get from the 70 bux the ticket cost?
Access to the Fanfest and all different activities there.
Originally by: General StarScream do we get free beer, dinner, girls, weed, drinks, more bear, junk food, and a get out of jail free card.
No.
Originally by: General StarScream And LoL do they really use isk in iceland as currency?
Yes, ISK stands for -slensk kr=na or Icelandic krona which is the currency used in Iceland, our in game ISK, or InterStellar Kredit, actually comes from the real worl ISK.

What actions will CCP take against players breaching the EULA during the Fan Fest?
Originally by: EULA Section 7b The buying, selling or auctioning (or any attempt at doing so) of characters, character attributes, items, currency, or objects, whether through online auctions (such as ebay), newsgroups, postings on message boards or any other means is prohibited by the EULA and a violation of CCP's proprietary rights in the Game.
Sureley there will be many players buying ISK for real money during there trip to Iceland... Will CCP cast a blind eye to this or will we see small notes stating "Illigal isk retracted" in our wallet or on the barcheck? Sureley the whole -slensk kr=na or Icelandic krona must be some marketing jibberish cooked up by Magnus Bergsson and his marketing devision to work as a cleaver workaround to decive the hard working GMs...
And now on to a more serious question... Will Magnus hold his marketin rountable this year aswell? I remember his being the best table by far last year... Was so much more fun than talking about 101 ways to make POSes worse...

EDIT: ok I found a link by digging back in thist thread. Note to admins. You can't get to that page by navigating on the web-site (or at least I couldn't), you just get sent straight to all the info.
I know, you first have to go to the Fanfest page, from there to the Icelandair packages page and from there to the Access pass page. It's a bit like IKEA, you have to go through the whole labyrinth.
