As you said it it: the game is the hobby. That does not mean we are not social people! And so we band together once a year. "Friends" meet "foes" over a cold beer, have a happy chats with the devs, and simply having plain fun! I am using the terms friends and foes in quotas too, since it is just INGAME and not in RL! The fun of the game actually lies in the interaction between the "Friends" and the "foes". Either on the battlefield or as competitors on the industrial side
Ok, I have to agree its a little corny seeing people dressing up in costumes etc and do acting. Did not happend in EVE FF though except for some of the crew getting up in costumes. There where no actings though, thankfully.
When it comes to the cost. Yes, it costs money! But have you been on Iceland? Have you visited the Blue Lagoon? Iceland is a wonderful country! Well worth visiting! So take out a vacation on 5-6 days! Spend a few days with your EVE friends, maybe even go on sightseeing together too in Iceland!Who said that ingame friends just need to stay ingame? Or, buy a Sister pass, CCP have introduces, and bring your girlfriend/Wife/Husband/whatever!
So I can list up many things making it worth going to Iceland!
Socializing with your ingame friends EVE! Devs! Beers! (YAY!!) Iceland! Vacation! Blue Lagoon!
We aint EVE Fanatics! We just love the game! Want to Socialize and meet people, plus enjoying Iceland, which is truly spectacular! I was there last year, and I know what I speak about!

Just something for anyone aiming to use credit cards/ bankcards in iceland .... most banks have flags on card use so if u use it somewhere where u wouldn't usually then they might put a referral or block on it.... alot of times even though a referral just means the business you are using it at just need to phone the bank sometimes inexperienced staff might think it is a block and refuse your card....
you can stop this from happening by contacting your bank/creditcard supplier and letting them know you will be in iceland between ( give them the dates you intend to be there)
This is well worth doing as the last thing you want to happen is too find yourself with out access too money

For those of us from the United States, this is VERY important. Transactions are monitored VERY closely these days (at least the ones at my Credit Union) and I have had my account frozen and charges declined after "suspicious" activity has occurred (like when i bought my FanFest travel package! LOL).
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE call your financial institution ahead of time to prevent any tragedies from occurring. It might be a good idea to get your bank's international toll-free number (if they have one) JUST in case.

It's no worse than a convention/conference for sci-fi movies, comic books, model airplanes, or any other activity that people spend a lot of time doing.
Truth be told, if the FanFest was in Saint Louis or Cleveland, I probably wouldn't go. That it is in Iceland makes it much more exotic for this Yank.

Edited by: Stylom on 16/10/2007 13:13:09 Myself a mate are getting into Iceland at Midnight on Wednesday 31st October. We'll be dumping the bags at the digs and then heading out on the lash. Should be ready to hit the bars about 1am.
Could someone recomend a half decent bar where a couple of middle aged Brits could sink a gallon of quafe without a load of Scandinavian Techno killing our elderly ear drums?
Better still would be if anyone is also getting there on the Wednesday night. Maybe we could arrange a pre-fanfest late night beer drinking & eve ranting session
Mail me in game - or post in reply please
EDIT: I just read up about people having problems getting UK to Iceland packages sorted for 4 nights. I phoned up Iceland Air and booked a package through them. I am sure it was a more expensive than the early bird package deals but I did leave it pretty late in the day to book up. It costs circa ú400 a person including flights taxes, airport transfers, 4 nights room with breakfast at the Park Inn (close to Nordica). The lady at Iceland Air was very helpful spoke perfect english and is called Eva.

I have a question regarding ordering of the fanfest access pass via the store.
How long does it take to get your confirmation e-mail? I tried to buy a ticket on Saturday with no e-mail or any indication that there was a problem.
I've petitioned, asking for some help and whether I should try again, but I'm not getting a reply on my petition either! Most frustrating. I don't want to keep trying and end up with 15 tickets.
Anyone else had/having similar problems?

Ok, first of all you should check your email, including any spam and junk folders you may have. Then check with your bank to make sure the purchase went through and money was withdrawn. If it's not anywhere in your email folders and the money was used, send me an email containing the name and email you used to order and I'll get the confirmation email resent.

also what are the taxi prices like??
Taxis are quite expensive , a taxi ride from Lµkjartorg( party central ) to Laugardalur( fanfest area , nordica hotel , grand hotel , cabin hotel) will set you back around 1500 Kr.

I also just tryed to buy a ticket earlyer today (bout 730 eve time) and it doesnt seem like its going through. Is there sposed to be a conformation page that basicly says thxs for buying a ticket? If so I didnt get that it just went back to the first ordering page where it lets you select how many tickets you want.Havent recived the conformation email either.
I petitioned as a billing problem shortly after no responce as of yet but its only been bout half a day. Should i leave it open atm or would it be better to email you?

You should follow the steps in my post above, and make sure you didn't get it to a spam folder, and also make sure you paid for it. If no money was taken you can just try to order again. If you havent recieved an email anywhere and the money has been withdrawn from your bank, email me with the name and email you used to order the access pass.

The Nordica Vox bar is not too bad, if you don¦t mind hotel bars. Hotel is part of the Hilton chain now, see: http://www1.hilton.com/en_US/hi/hotel/KEFHFHI-Hilton-Reykjavik-Nordica/index.do;jsessionid=B1382355C64B698ECE657DB4C564F33A.etc44?brand_id=HI&brand_directory=/en/hi/&xch=85595742,HHD2YLUSI2WKQCSGBJBNMQQ
Fairly quiet, hotel guests chatting. Guess it all comes down to how middle aged you really are

Can anybody recommend some good websites to pick up the local lingo. I would like to at least attend fan fest with some words of Icelandic.
Handy things like "hello", "Can I get directions to X?", "How much is that?" and "You are very cute, Would you like to come back to my hotel room?"

Not sure how it will be at the fanfest site itself - the one at the sportshall - but Iknow for sure Nordica hotell have internet access. Ask at the service desk when checking in and they will hand you a cable for use at your room. From the hall itself at the hotell you can use wireless.

If I remember right, someone in this thread - somewhere - promised with the next update of the map to set Nordica hotel on the map.
For information: Nordica hotell is in the "same building" as Pizza Hut which is marked on the map! The Vox Restaurant at the hotell is ok too, but I prefer Pizza Hut
