The Revelations 2.1 patch has been deployed and Tranquility has returned to service. If you have an issue after the deployment, please check the Known Issues page to see if the Dev Team is already aware of it and submit a bug report. If you are unsure of what has been changed in this patch, please take a look at the Patch Notes page. You can also take a look at the announcement thread for this patch.
After the patch was deployed we put up Tranquility in VIP mode for testing purposes, this was done to make sure everything worked as intended. The testing took a bit extra time and therefore the patch deployment took a bit more than originally announced. The autopatcher was kept off until we were sure everything was as it should be. Tranquility is now open and we hope you'll enjoy the new patch!

I managed to patch fine once the autopatcher was switched back on, but I can't get access to server as it continually says status unknown.. even though I obviously have an active internet connection. (Well I'm here aren't I?)

Nice performance boost!
The P4 1.5 GHz, 512 MB SDR RAM with Intel onboard graphics, I use to login from work, used to have 8-9 fps in station and slideshow'ish fps in space.
It has now soared to an amazing 17-18 fps in both station and space.
I can't wait to get home and see how this will be on my own PC.
Grats on the patch,

Edited by: Mitram on 24/07/2007 13:39:38 Edited by: Mitram on 24/07/2007 13:38:01 Python 2.5 wasn't "the" performance improvement so far. Just be in Jita next to a station and have 30-35 player ships on your overview and get horrible lag due to the overview ( half a second stalls often. second stalls sometimes). Close the overview and all lag is gone and gfx speed is up to normal.
I haven't been in a fleet battle for years but with this overview lag I guess the fastest way to target enemies is by selecting them manually and by closing the overview in battles.
CCP, please continue to "improve" the scripting, or replace parts by real code.

I'm still having an issue with +10 people showing as neutral in chat windows and local. Its a corp -> alliance standing, I minimized and maximized the window to see if that helps but no dice.
Thing is, another person from the same alliance does show properly as +10 on the same window.

When my ship cloaks/uncloaks before and after using a jump gate, rectangular patches show up around where lights appear on the ship, with some kinda different transparency or something. Like a mask channel not texturing properly? So under where them the ship is fully transparent or not transparent at all when it should be... They also pulse in size with the lights flash, so get bigger when the lights are bright.
Did that make sense? lol

On a slight side note, got very good speeds downloading off the eve-online site, about 0.5 Meg a second, did the 600 odd meg file in 20 mins or so, one of the fastest i have ever seen for my ISP, so was very impressed.

When I installed wine to get eve working, i followed the instructions on http://elfe.mine.nu/eve/linux/. I have not updated wine, because it works (never change a running system). As I have seen, there is a patch for 0.9.40.
This is a crappy notebook (ubuntu) and I use it to switch skills at work. I cant tell you anything about gameplay.

Info window keep position checkbox (the effect of it being checked) is not working anymore!
The error was introduced in the first rev II patch.
I have posted 2 bug reports on the subject and they both were dismissed:
Quote: Thank you for your bugreport - ID:41309 Title: Info windows not keeping position. The problem you have described as an intended game feature, and not a bug. Your bugreport has been closed.
And apart from being bad English, i really don't understand how the removal of a feature without removing the switch (checkbox), can be an intended feature??
Please check the bug report id 41309 for a full explanation.
Also now when i log in all of the portraits are gone. I have to click all chars i want to see portrait for anew :(

Really nice job, CCP. So far the following bugs were included within the patch: - protraits (icons in chat, etc.) are gone after client restart - more lag (do you mean "need for lag"?) - observation of the system revealed, that the client is eating 10-20MB memory with every jump. - ship ist cloaked after jump, but not the turrets.
Sorry, but with every patch the game is getting worse and worse.

This is a huge upgrade, jumping the software running the server up by 4 years of development so it's not surprising there's a few niggles, it seems pretty good apart from a few problems, I wouldn't say things are 'getting worse'. Good work on a smooth upgrade guys, glad the problems are relatively minor and in hand.

Doing show info on a random item doesn't work either, so it's probably just extreme lag where I'm at (Yoma atm).

How about the client deleting all the cached portraits upon every client restart?
Also being worked on.
how about us who only get status unknown since installing the latest patch

We are currently working on/testing fixes for:
Cloaking errors (dont worry, you do cloak) - probably related to a minor memory leak in the client CTD's Portraits deletion on client restart on client IGB errors Local/corp chat channels not displaying
For all other issues please continue filing bugreports with logs/dxdiags and crash .dmp files where appropriate.

Well, I've completed The Guristas Spies mission, level 4, numerous times, but after todays "update" it became quite an adventure. The client crashed five times to the desktop. It mostly occurred after flying back in from leaving to recharge cap. That's my only mission so far since the "update", will post again after attempting a few more.

Am getting rather nasty freeze when jumping into a complex where lots of rats lock on to you at once. It's like a single thread is taking all the CPU time, and when it's over there is a sudden drop in ship shields/armour etc because things have been going on whilst the screen is waiting to update.
An almost regular stutter when at gates and invoking bigger actions like jumping not long after having logged in.

I have randomly crashed to desktop twice so far.
Also, the cached character portraits are lost every time I log in and I need to recache them.
Just logged in again and all my settings have been lost (AGAIN!) and none of my cache backups will restore them.
I am reinstalling now but doubt it will do anything

well, did some more testing in game on this chat issue and a few points cam up that i think are funny...
1 - in the join chat menu the local, corp , and alliance chats are listd with no "join" button and not way to adjsut this. i was able to join other chat channels though.
2 - if i was a pirate this patch would almost bea wet dream. i am not in local at all. meaning i can move from belt to belt and system to system with no one knowing wether i am there or not. however i have no idea if any targets are in the system (i think that general probing though can find others before they realize i am in system). as far as spying if i were cloaked i could sit a few K off a gate or a station and no one would ever be the wiser (and communicate coming and going via team speak).
3 - this seems to effect only certain accounts. my main that i am posting with has no local chat ,but an alt that i use on a seperate account has all his channels working fine. this is on the same computer btw.
hope some of this info is helpful

Edited by: HydroSan on 24/07/2007 18:03:01 I haven't had any noticeable problems aside from the IGB not working. It was a little slow letting me log in after the patch but that always happens after every major revision.
I get into large fights almost daily, so I'll be sure to report any problems with desyncs/lag if/when they pop up.
For the people having problems logging in or crashing, try moving your cache (located at \EVE\cache\) to another folder and try to do what you were doing when it crashed again. Sometimes the cache gets mildly corrupted after a patch and needs to be wiped clean to fix the problem.
edit: Also, the speeding up/aligning of ships is MUCH smoother. Aligning towards an object, the speed boost from the MWD going active and turning on different modules is almost instantaneous as opposed to the 1-2 seconds of lag before the command takes hold.

I don't know if this is local to me, and I wasn't running logserver thingy, but will be watching it to see if it happens again and running it now.
I got some major, and I mean MAJOR memory creepage which slowed down my machine no end, eve taking up the best part of 2 gig, when I decided to close the client. Which took an age (understandably) so I went afk for a while and left task manager running while I did.
On my return about 10 mins later, the game had closed but ExeFile.exe was taking up 2.8 gig of ram and virtual memory (and increasing). This this point I force ended the process because it was just getting silly.
will report further if it occurs again.

im getting a massive memory leak just travelling around.
I start teh client and i have 190,000 k usage - as i approach a gate it jumps by about 10,000k - went to jita to the 4-4 station and my mem usage jumped from 320,000k to 350,000k when the overview loaded all the ships outside the station.
It does appear to jump whenever the overview registers anything.
Dont know if this will help but thats the issue im experiencing atm - mem usage doesnt seem to want to go down so ill prolly have to relog very often.

Should then keep your old overview and UI settings etc. |

I have try to make the some pics read only so there dont get deleted but this cause that the clinte is not longer startet. hang on bootscreen and EVEFile.exe rest in memory with 40MB RAM and 0% CPU use.
Someone from Corp reports that he has massive memory leak issues if he try to use 2 accounts at the same time on same machine.
byside this EVE works great. :) good performance. |

I so hope you're just being sarcastic. but well, if not... ram is the issue. virtual memory <> ram. The problems start when your pc hits your ram boundary and starts swapping to virtual memory (read 5 to 30 seconds lag spikes). So increasing your virtual memory won't do you any good. |

Can we get an ETA on fixing Jita this is getting rediculous. I don't want to be moved from jita I came there to get my ship and stuff out of Jita for this ****ing reason. If its at all possible to do reboot the part of the server Jita is on if not reboot the whole thing so i can spend the 10 minutes i need to get my stuff and leave.

That's perfectly normal. The login screen background is a rendering task, and since there isn't any logic going on or a framerate cap it's rendering the background as fast as it can. It's actually pretty funny, just that login screen makes for an excellent burn-in application for gauging just how much heat a GPU will put out. ---- AUS Corp Lead Megalomanic |

Originally by: Dareth Astrar Am getting rather nasty freeze when jumping into a complex where lots of rats lock on to you at once. It's like a single thread is taking all the CPU time, and when it's over there is a sudden drop in ship shields/armour etc because things have been going on whilst the screen is waiting to update.
An almost regular stutter when at gates and invoking bigger actions like jumping not long after having logged in.
I want to add to Dareth post: Apparently the problem is in the locking from NPC. Upon entering a mission pocket the delay in loading the screen is normal (no apparent imporvement there) but when the NPC start locking there is a several seconds freeze. This appens even if the grid is fully loaded and the the NPC have been visible but inactive for several seconds.

And as for the guy who posted about crappy service above me....seriously what do you expect? CCP didnt knowingly release this patch with this bug. there are always teething issues, and they work their asses off as fast as possible, and despite that, certain people such as yourself still whine and moan.
Eve is a niche game - The guys do their best to keep it running smoothly, and lets face it - CCP have no where near the resources of WoW for example. You want no bugs, and instant fixes? Go play WoW. Im sure you'll be happy that goblins never run away at 15au/s in a forest ^^
In the meantime, im gonna sit here and support CCP for doing a good job.

WOW! EVE Just crashed on me for the first time in over a year. Whatever you guys at CCP did please undue it. After it crashed the dang "EXEFile" process kept running and was just eating up my computers performance. I had to end the process manually. It was like the time I was running 2 high graffix FPS games by accident.
Also every 20 min or so I get a "Blip" where my visual in the game jumps and the 700 Megs of memory being used by the client drops down to 150megs and then harshly rushes back up.

I don't get any extra GPU heat when its on the login screen, sure extra CPU heat, but its probably due to the fact that the client barely uses the GPU.

I got a novel idea for CCP......how about fixing everything that is wrong with the game before any new additions are made from now on.....the known bugs page is getting pretty big and if these are "known" bugs then why are they not fixed before the new stuff comes along and borks things up worse.......Isn't that the point of having such a page .....so you know what needs fixing....not just a place to placate the paying customers and make them think you really care and are fixing the bugs.
Fixing what is wrong first........Damn....What a concept.....player satisfaction over noob money?
This just came to me as I sit here mining and watching my drones orbit normally....then slow down to a crawl....then speed back up as my memory useage does the same thing......yesterday everything was fine (considering the bugs)......
Damn CTD again......thanks CCP

Call me an old man if you want, but if you're moaning about pity things like this, you must be new here. If you knew half the bugs that ccp have fixed over the years, you wouldnt be whining about this now.
Secondly, to the nub moaning about ccp adding more stuff before fixing old stuff.....what the hell did you think this patch was for? Adding chocolate cookies ingame? The python upgrade improved eves performance. However, the downside is that in order to test it works well, they use SiSi, which does NOT have the same 'reality' testing needed, due to lack of resources, including playerbase. Unless there was an imaginary tech 2 BS added in this patch which i didnt know about, id suggest you read the patch notes next time before flaming like a moron.
And finally - A cold hard grip on reality is that CCP can only work so hard. They have 120,000 opinions floating around, and when folks come to the forums, its often the ones who come to complain, not praise. The reality is that CCP do their job extremely well considering the resources they have at hand, and the job that needs to be done. If you tihnk you can do better, then fine - Apply for ccp. But i highly doubt you could, therefore your input is mute.
Sorry, but whining folks really annoy me

There is a bug in the Overview that, when the overview gets extended beyond the lower screen border, one or more of its panels becomes locked closed and broken. Contact lists and Drones panels being sealed shut, have both been repeatedly reported to the Known Issues forums.
The only way we can find to fix this, when it breaks (and it's happening to a whole lot of people) is to go into our hidden [...]/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE folders and blow away the Settings... then spend the next hour redoing all the Overview configurations, setting Station Cans to default Unlocked, and so on.
Having this happen in the middle of battles and missions is really, really bad. Please do something about this...
Also, I'm not seeing font size controls on my chat windows anymore, but I can still use them, if I get my mouse in the right place and click on where they used to be.

CCP, I'd like to thank you for all your hard work on this game. You have done a very good job considering the scope of what you are working on.
To the inceseant whinners out there, I sometimes wish you would follow thru with your threats to leave for good, it would be a much better game without you. But that wouldn't be good business.
I think the game has inmproved quite a bit in the last year and half that I've been playing and can't wait for the new content that is on the way, all these bugs are just bumps in the road that is common with all software.

Ok, seriously, will this patch fix the assinine drop in FPS? Just logged on my second to change a skill (making two clients open, on at 1280 x 1024, the other at 1680 x 1050).
As of last night, I was seeing 32-34 FPS on the inactive client (usually the 1280 x 1024) and 186ish on the active client.
Now, I'm seeing 17.8ish on the inactive client and 31-32 on the active client. Giant WTF there.

It worries me that the patch notes say the crashes occur during missions. I mean they DO, but they also occur while not having missions active at all, sound turned off and messages turned off. Got nothing to do with any of that at all imo, it seems completely random

There seems to be a big memory leak. There is a thread in General Discussion about it. Just figured I would link to it since it wasnt in mephystos list for what is being worked on at the moment.
Doesnt seem too minor either, it causes client crashes.

I haven't met any of the bugs listed here, except of pics-not-caching and greatly increased disk access. My hard drive sometimes seems to explode with reading something (Seagate 200 Gb, 8 Mb cache, 1-month old HD). This never happened before.
And - to my personal feeling - server-side things are much slower. I was waiting 3 minutes to jump in Jita, which had only 450 in local. This never happened before too (I was almost instantly jumping when there was 600 in local). -------------------------------------------------- Listen up! "Teamwork" means staying out of my way! Nobody seems to have mentioned the fact that undocking now takes about double the amount of time it did before rev II.
And then i also want to join the "Fix before new feature movement". CCP you must realize, that you are turnign the playerbase against you instead of with you.
New features is mostly for older players anyway. Eve is a daunting complex game for new players already. Why not make it a fluent daunting experience for all?

To repeat it again:
THE LAST PATCH HAS ADDED NOTING TO CONTENT
it was aimed to resolve some of the old issues and prepare the terrain for further bug correction.
It seem it has resolved some issue (desync seem, to me at least, to have disappeared, and I haven't seen people complaining about that in this thread) and increased some preexisting problem (in particular the memory leak was more than once reported, but was more sporadic).
We can hope that, as postulated in the dev blog about python it will give EVE a better base for further improvements in performance.

Nope, this is not something towards CCP
So on the serious note: Only issues with the new patch : 1 - portraits (like if I'd care for them... dunno why ppl cry about it so much... but I'm sure someone will enlighten me that they pay for those fockin portraits so they: "please i need!") 2 - system seemed a bit slower then before, not game but system (am running windowed like everyone else) alt tabbing and surfing seemed slow... probably the memory leek dunno as i always check CPU but never memory (2 gigs i thought should be always enough )
No crashes, no game crawling (as i said system seems more stressed not game), no settings lost (by the way ppl complaining for settings lost, have only one setting - default - or they do use several saved ones? ), true slow login but acceptable...
So to all of you, take a chill-pill (ah anyway downtime is close and new patch on the way...)

maybe side effect of the memory leak. eating memory from your other windows resources.

Originally by: Maldus NiKunni I got a novel idea for CCP......how about fixing everything that is wrong with the game before any new additions are made from now on.
There is no new content in this release and no new features. This release is all about improving the performance of EVE. We apologise that we didn't catch a few issues in our QA but we worked into the night and are fixing those issues today.
Work on Revelations 2.1 can be traced as far back as spring 2006 when a Python Need For Speed sprint was held in Reykjavik, Iceland. The event was co-sponsored by CCP and attended by CCP's senior developers. The goal of the sprint was to improve the performance of Python and our goal was to improve the performance of EVE. You can read about the development of Revelations 2.1 in Porkbelly's dev blog. In addition we fixed a number of performance related issues in Revelations 2.1.
It's impossible to come up with a single number on the performance increase since it depends on which system we view but we are seeing improvements across the board. For example, the startup time of the server has decreased by 10% and memory usage after startup has also decreased by 10%. The new PGO Stackless Python 2.5 performs 15% better on benchmark suites. CPU load on proxy servers is 25-50% less. We had fleet battles on the test servers with about 45% more people but still comparable load on the server and players reported less lag and better frame rates.

Edited by: Anarine on 25/07/2007 10:33:04 Ok, I just want to add something here... This path info page isn't going quite the way I wanted, so I just want to say something.
CCP, thanks for what you are doing. Really, sincerely. And for anyone out there that thinks I'm saying that because my copy of Eve works fine... it doesn't. I have 2 systems, both under Linux, one works fine, the other doesn't. I don't know where it comes from, either CCP broke something during the dev stage, or Cedega (Windows emulator) is too picky. Maybe even a mix between the two.
In real life, I'm a software dev. It is amazing how one single line of code can break an entire program, or just little bits in completely unexpected ways. It doesn't really matter how much QA you do, some bugs remain unfound until the very last second, ie production. And as for the part on "Do more QA tests", how many people were on Sisi testing when CCP asked? Hmm? I wasn't, so I don't really have the right to scream. I don't even want to. CCP has been adding so much stuff to keep the game interesting, they have surpassed almost all expectation, be it from the gamers themselves or the gaming sites (don't believe me? Read the reviews, look at the ratings). Software bugs are part of software. I hate them as much as anyone, and believe me, I've seen my fair share. But that's life. In half an hour, I'm getting a new patch, and I'm confident that this is going to correct my problems. If not I'll try and find a dev and pod him with my working machine ;) When the patch does work, a few devs are going home for some well-earned rest, they probably worked very late into the night to get the speed-patch out.
Wrangler, Explorer, and indeed all of CCP, many thanks!

We are aware of issues with Cider and Cedega and are working with TransGaming Technologies to correct them.
Please file a bug report with a trace from Cedega, that might help us in tracking down the problem.

that's a very old recurring problem, and relogging is not an adequate workaround, as its a total crapshot when you're in a plex, if you'll get warped back to where you were before relogging.
we've been complaining about the short warp-back timer duration forever... its not like making it 10 minutes would hurt anything or open up plexes to level camping in any way. ... _____________________________________ I'm Paper; Rock's fine, nerf Scissors |

CPU load on proxy servers is 25-50% less. when are they going to get around to fixing the UI bug that was caused by rev2... the one where you can't set corporation-to-player standings?
as for whoever said wine crashes with the new patch, it works fine for me... --- cheers, gordo |

MAP:
In system view, merely selecting any object by clicking it (like planets, moons, probes etc) will automatically zoom you in on that object.
1) selecting an object means in no way someone wants to be zoomed in on it and loose his present, carefully adjusted zoom level.
2) this ultra-close auto-zoom to objects is mostly useless, because no further details are revealed over what you can see in the little popup windows from afar. The only result is that now you can't see anything and have to roll your mouse wheel like a spastic to get back to a useable perspective.
3) there isn't even an option to turn this annoyance off.

And if its too much work to make the map's auto-zoom intelligent, just disable it for now or at least make it optional ... _____________________________________ I'm Paper; Rock's fine, nerf Scissors |

Well, the going explanation is that there is one team responsible for fixes and another for new features... so we always get these patches that fix things and add new features at the same time.
Sounds logical enough, only that the results don't seem to prove out the method.
The list of really OLD bugs is horribly long... certain bugs get fixed one patch, and then suddenly pop up again in a later patch. (like drones not docking to a moving ship again since 2.1, even if the ship is going far slower than the drone's speed)
Other bugs have never been considered important enough to fix at all, cause the load of more serious bugs seems to remain too daunting to spend time on polishing things since 2003...
I understand the need for CCP to keep the game moving on the feature side, but they should move people from the feature department to the bug fixing department, until eve becomes a little less unreliable and frustrating of a game...
I'd rather have what's there work and CCP stick to more simple additions.

We're barely past the normal downtime, give them a few extra minutes to make sure the emergency patch is functional, will you? I for one find it amazing that they can fully deploy and test a patch in such a short time frame. Wait at least a few minutes until after the deadline before you start complaining, lol.

you have no choice in the matter. When they release THIS patch, there's going to be some bug reintroduced, some memory leak reintroduced, some NEW crap that they mucked up along the way. etc etc. I've waited 4 years for proper software development cycles in the hopes this game gets out of beta. You might have to restart your client to have it detect the new patch.
And to all the people whining about bugs not getting solved, you lot obviously have no idea how much stuff has been fixes over the last few years. Then they introduce new stuff, there will be bugs (software always has bugs, live with it) and they have been fixing those too. Expecting flawless software for the price you pay is rather silly.

That happens after a restart. I assume it's because the whole EVE universe isn't loaded after a reboot but loads regions as and when required. Much more efficient use of resources.

Or in other words you have no problem with CCP's development and QA methods. If you did you would have left a while ago.
To the masses:
No software package is bug free. None. There never will be until we have a completely different coding methodology. The current technology makes it impossible to have bug free software. If you don't like this and CCP is soo bad then please cancel. Put your money where your mouth is. It's right there on the left. Go click it. No? Didn't think so. We honestly can't find any issue on our end, is it possible that windows firewall is blocking EVE, or exefile.exe, or that somehow your router is blocking the traffic?

I dont think its your end it has something to do with the old settings/char/PC-info...yesterday after patching my client popped up for 10sek and disappeared but stays in memory without trying to connect.
I deleted all eve-folders and installed the full-client. After that all worked fine

Edited by: Darth Vaders on 25/07/2007 15:43:25 EDITED FOR UPDATE:
I just got the update that fixes the memory leak. So that guy in chat channel was well informed and the patch was on its way :) Good good! No more memory leaks then :)
--------------------- I haven't read the whole thread. The game overall looks like going faster indeed. Yet it seems to consume much more memory (RAM) now for some reason.
Many others have experienced the same issue. So i d dare to talk about possible MEMORY LEAK.
The memory leak seems to be aumenting with every passing gate. Somehow the jump gates create memory leak for some reason. I don't know if this has already been fixed. I haven't played at all today . Some guys in the chat channel told me that this was a known fact and that CCP was on way to fix it soon. In any case i thought good to post it also here in case you didn't know it. ---------------------------------

Now since the python patch, with all the same stuff running and only the eve client changed, my system is munching 1000 or so.

We're still looking into memory leaks. Todays patch should plug the worst of it but we are aware that in some cases leaks can still be found. This IS being looked into :)

Hello After applying the patch, the eve client closed twice with no notice at all. The first time I was in a station tring to buy something from the market but the second time I was engaged against some rogue drones by a stargate with my own drones in the fight. when i relogged in the game, the emergency warp out hadn't worked and i was still there by the stargate with my drones circling around my ship like I hadn't been disconnected from the server. So what caused it?? Luckilly i wasn't engaged in a PVP fight!!!!!

I have already filed a bug report for this, but just so people know they're not alone: I am still having problems with Server Status UKNOWN reports, stopping me from logging in.
I made a completely fresh install, and the system did prompt me to install the new patch. To me this means that there is communication possible between my client and the server, at least enough to determine version numbers and to download the patch.
I even uninstalled my new antivirus app but that hasn't made any difference. Hope you fix this soon, because I'm starting to get withdrawals....

I still can't persuade the client to run. I get a splash-screen then nothing. It's not technically crashing (process still running under file manager), it's just not actually doing anything.
This is after a reboot and a re-install from the laterst client version.
My security softwear (F-Secure Internet Security Suite 07) is not listing anything as being blocked.
And the bug reporting srvice won't let me report this for some reason.

At least please stop spamming useless whine posts.
I did leave - 4 months ago in fact. If I couldn't play this game for free I wouldn't be playing it at all with either of my accounts. <3 GTC and all that.
fwiw, I know there will always be bugs. Bugs are acceptable as long as they are handled in a systematic fashion to get them fixed. Systematic doesn't mean "emergency patch that patch that patched the last emergency patch." Systematic means go through and thoroughly test the code before you deploy it. I mean, all it took to expose this memory leak was to, uh, fly around. You didn't even need to kill stuff. Did the QA team just... not fly around in testing or something? ========== CELES KB: http://www.celeskills.com

OK, so by now I hope someone at CCP is aware of this problem...would it be TOO much to ask that you change the MOTD on login to reflect this? Something like "There is a problem, we are working on it" instead of the irritating "patch deployed" message?
BTW...people are only seeing "server status OK" because the client is caching the damn result! Switch to a test server and back again, and all of sudden server is NOT ok... ---

I got the timeout thing a few times afte logging due to severe lag/desync. Then I got Connection to server was closed. Now I'm getting:
Quote: Could not connect to the specified address. Odds are that you have not established an internet connection, the server isn't running, or the server address or port number was wrong.
I have an internet connection (obviously) and the other two problems would be at CCP's end.

there's no reason they can't simulate 20,000 user load. I mean, its not like couldn't macro it. I use several tools (web application stress tool for instance) for simulating load on our web applications - 5 simultaneous up to 500,000 simultaneous to see where the pain points are at the different load levels. ========== CELES KB: http://www.celeskills.com

There's significant differences in complexity between a web application and a game with the depth and breadth of Eve, I know. This is why there are testing tools that _simulate_ people doing stuff - macro ratters/miners/mission runners have that stuff down pat and use it with the full client. Say, they simulate 15,000 people jumping around, 2500 people mining, 1000 missions of different types, 1000 market traders, 500 pvpers for instance? Then have the 5 people that are ACTUAL people jump in and do stuff while its under this simulated load? Maybe it would help prevent this "patch the emergency patch that patched the previous emergency patch which patched the first patch after the expansion deployment" crap.
The problem isn't the simulation, it's the size of the test server, which is limited in power as compared to the actual game servers.

Originally by: Gyrn Fzirth I mean, all it took to expose this memory leak was to, uh, fly around. You didn't even need to kill stuff. Did the QA team just... not fly around in testing or something?
there is a small difference between 5 users on 1 server and 20000
there's no reason they can't simulate 20,000 user load. I mean, its not like couldn't macro it. I use several tools (web application stress tool for instance) for simulating load on our web applications - 5 simultaneous up to 500,000 simultaneous to see where the pain points are at the different load levels.
Doesn't matter for client memory leak testing. One client jumping around doing stuff should exhibit the same problem without regard to what else is going on server side because the server has no control over the client's memory allocation. ========== CELES KB: http://www.celeskills.com

The reimbursment policy state : " Losses caused due to disconnection as a direct result of a server node drop or an unannounced server downtime may be reimbursed pending investigation by, and at the discretion of, a GM. Ships lost due to lag or non-server related disconnection will not be reimbursed. "
Guy, I will not reconnect this day cause it is too late for me to get back my retriever from space. NPC will pop up and kill it because i don't have drones in space. I'm not in your reimbursment case what will it be done for this case ?
And i will not make any petition to see if you read this forum through all the post or if you read the complete stats of what happened due to the server crash.

In situations like this, the most important thing CCP need to concentrate on is customer feedback.
It's all about managing customer expectations - I don't care if it will take 3 hours to fix. Just tell me - then I will go and watch TV.
They need to have someone who, every time there is an unexpected glitch, will give regular realistic feedback.
This can be by various means: a locked "feedback" post, which is updated every 5 mins (really - even if there is no news.. then tell us "no news" with a timestamp) The status window of the client could even be a real time MSN messenger type window - again updated regularly.
Disconnect the webserver from the rest of the game servers (this is much better now - but still not perfect from what I can tell).
"As fast as humanly possible" is great - I know you guys are working 110% on this, I wouldn't expect anything else, but just say "we will bring the servers back up at 20:00 gmt - even if the servers are ready before, I don't care, give me a solid and realistic time to come back to my PC.
Ok servers look like they are back!
Now my rant is over - See you online!

Is this your first update? No game compensates you for lost training time. This one actually DOES allow you to train during down-time, however. Did you think the warning from CCP, and everyone on the forums, to train a long skill was just a joke?
For future reference, when the game is unstable -such as around patch days- train a long skill. Do not let the skill end. IF it will end in the next 24 hours switch to a NEW skill. If you ignore the warnings fine - just don't complain about it. Please.
Regarding the server coming up - they will tell us when they can. It is frustrating. If they come on and say 'almost got it' they are inundated with complaints and screams for more info. I still wish they would do it, but it does cause them to delay.

Wanna say BIG thanks for 2.1 and 2.1.1 patches even when there some new issues after patching. Today we got some fleet fighting and with about 350 local there was NO LAG, i mean no lag at all. Module activation - 1-3 sec. Grid loading 3-15 sec. No desinc's and stuff. After unplayable fleetlagfests which were before - that's awesome. |

one of my skill should have finished 2 hours before i logged in at about EVE time 22:00 25 July 2007.
But when i was able to log in and hovered the mouse over the skill, i got the message saying skill training of "Tactical Shield Manipulation" to level 5 was finishing imminently and then the "Character Sheet" icon flashed as if the skill had finished.
When i started another skill, i noticed that the TSM was not showing as level 5 but as 97 % completed with almost 12 hours to go to reach level 5.
I assume it has something to do with the trouble EVE is having.
Anyone else have this problem ?
Currently running a long skill training till EVE seems settled down.

It does take a concentrated effort to get connected again...Once i am on a 2nd or 3rd time i am usually good to go for a couple hours b4 i get bumped...

It appears that a delay is forced for every item moved.....
Example 1,, Cleaning up after dronefest in Lvl4. Click to open cargo, wait 1sec,,cargo opens, wait 5secs,, cargo appears, wait 2secs,, cargo can move to hold, click salvager, wait 3-5secs for icon to appear, wait 2secs more for cargo screen to disappear This is too consistant to be accidental..
Example 2,, All above items dropped in base hanger... Stack all, approx 2 minutes timed at 1 sec per item.
Doesn't sound too good if this also applies to swarming ships.....!!!

The killer bugs seem to have been solved (no channels etc.).
But a few things are very annoying: - Item transfer takes ages (like above poster said)
- Standings do not display correct in overview (already one corpmate killed by thinking only friendly ships around when they were actually -10.0)
- Sometimes my client "stalls" when I open market / assets or things that usually take long to load. I have to relog to make it work again. (mouse still works etc. but chat channels do no longer update and newly opened window will stay blank) ------- Angelus Fade ------- I once was a badass fighter for the Amarr Empire, but they screwed me over and de-fanged me, so currently I am just a fluffy puppy space miner.... until the time |

Everyone who is having the 'Status Unknown' problem, please do a traceroute to 87.237.38.200 and post the results here.
You can run a traceroute (under windows at least) by opening a command window (Start - Run - type 'cmd' and hit enter). Then you type 'tracert 87.237.38.200' and hit enter.
That shows you what route you are taking to the Tranquility cluster over the internet and where you're stopping. Please post the results of this in this thread and we'll see where the problem lies.

It is an old bug. It happens usually when you are changing session at skill completation. The "apparent" (but not true) training level of the skill revert back to when it was last changed/checked from forum.
Usually it clear when: a) you relog; b) failing relog at DT; c) failing that clearing the cache.
It all that don't resolve it petition.
I must admit I liked the completation mails for that too. I was way easier to check when a skill was completed and you had a proof to present to the GM.

The server breakages were unrelated to the patch deployment, and since this is a patch deployment thread it's not the proper place to discuss this.
We are looking into the 'Status Unknown' issue, and as posted above, would like to ask people to try and traceroute so we can see where the problem lies. Other people have tried to re-download the client and even use other PC's and still get 'Status Unknown' so there is absolutely no guarantee that will solve any problem.

It's not the training time lost due to not setting a long enough skill, it's rather the training time that was skipped on the skil that was in training. I had a skill too that finished much later than it should have according to when I started to train it. Somehow for 2 to 4 hours no skill kept training during yesterdays patch.

For the ones who claim 'you should have set a long skill', of course we all do that during the patch, but 36h later, it is no more the case and CCP does not recommand that.
CCP, it's true this place is not the right place to discuss reimbursement after a crash. So what is the right place?

And that is normal due to each patch changing eve exe digital signature, so as much as your firewall knows, it could have been a virus changing it :) -------------------------- War. War never changes EvE Training Monitor - A Google Gadget Now with wallet data. |

As you can trace to the IP, I'm guessing that you can now connect to the server fine using the game client?

Bug report has been submitted, posting here as a heads up for everyone else. My high sec POS weapon systems are missing all their ammo after downtime every day for the last few days. I refill it after start-up and it's missing again the next day.

For what its worth, a mate of mine did a little playing around with this lastnight, the problem did not seem a connectivity one, so he got a copy of wireshark on the job.
Basiclly the communication between the client and the server was getting a boatload of tcp checksum errors, at first it was thought this was the cause of the issue.
however later it just started working with the same checksum errors... (go figure).
deffo something odd and fishy going on tho, see i actaull have nothing usefull to add...

I haven't read all 12 pages yet so bear with me if this has been addressed.
Hovering over a skill in training (on the Character screen) doesn't show the time remaining. In fact there is no way to see how much training time is left on a skill.

No, I didn't file a bug report but this has been happening to me the last couple of patches.
If I click on a different window and then go back to the character screen it starts showing up again. Refresh issue? <-----------> Factional Warfare:

It's working now:
I manually configured all Firewalls (Norton Protection Center and Vista), after a re-install. I think, the Firewalls got kinda "confused" with the new EVE.exe-file and the old entries in their databases (although Norton asked for the new file). Maybe CCP changed some communication ports of EVE?

Diddo.. its a interment prob of no real concquence. I find that if you change a to another skill and then back its fixes what ever the prob is so i have never worryed bout it after all there are worse bugs to squash then this.

Originally by: CCP Wrangler The Revelations 2.1 patch has been deployed and Tranquility has returned to service. If you have an issue after the deployment, please check the Known Issues page to see if the Dev Team is already aware of it and submit a bug report.
The known Issues page showing Build 33752 which is two patches (34791 and 35106) out of date. When it was one patch out of date, I sent a bug report about it. The response I got back was "The problem you have described was not reproducable. ... Your bugreport has been closed." All they had to do to reproduce the bug was go to Known Issues page. It says Build 33752 as broad as day. I even provided the link to their own page.
Three patches behind now. One behind is understandable, but three?
We are working on a new known issues list and it will be published soon.
Great. The Build number has been updated, but the content remained the same...again. It's a start I guess. (:

I don't know if this is the right place to post it or not, but I'm have an in-game post-patch issue. "Set Destination" is broken! Most locations are listed as "Unreachable" being "2147483647" jumps away!
To illustrate, I've taken a screenshot and put it on my server: EVEscreenie.gif
Nobody else I've spoken to seems to have this problem, But I had to manually plot a course to a system that was just 5 jumps away! Though after finishing the plotted course I found out that some locations I CAN set a destination to (which in that instance was 4 jumps along my plotted course). From Old Man Star it looks like I can't set a course anywhere.
I'm not much of a forum monger so I might not even revisit this thread, so if you need something from me, or can offer a solution, you can find me in game on this toon.
Thank you

This isn't firewalls getting "confused", it's a deliberate security measure programmed into them. When the firewall permissions for the eve executable are set up, your firewall will record the checksum value of the file. If the file changes, the checksum will change, and the firewall will know that while it has the same filename, it is not the same file.
While this is very annoying when you install a patch, it's very useful to foil certain forms of malware attack. If firewalls didn't do this, malware could insert itself into files that already have firewall permission, and get round your firewall without you knowing about it.

Ahh, so they've put this back in
Basically, it's to do with the "prefer high sec" autopilot option. How this works in practice is that it puts a weighting on jumps depending on their security status. The strength of that weighting is what is controlled by the slider under the "prefer high sec" setting. As you move the slider further to the right, a low sec jump counts as more and more "virtual" jumps to the autopilot - hence it will tend to prefer setting courses through hig-sec systems, because it sees them as shorter beause of the weighting, even if they're not shorter in actual jumps.
While the number of jumps may look like some random huge number, it's actually the point at which the field size the number of jumps is stored in maxes out. The autopilot will have made a course up until the first low-sec system. It then hits the first low-sec system, and because you have the slider cranked all the way to the right, the weighting is so massive that the autopilot sees the jump as counting as billions of jumps. At which point it runs out of room to store the number of jumps, and gives up trying to make a course.
This is how the system originally worked. At some point they changed it so that if it failed to find a route applying the weightings, it would try again without them so that you always got a route, even if it violated your preference settings. I'm glad it's working the original way again - it means that you make the decision to override your preferences in order to reach your destination, rather than the autopilot doing so without warning you. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |

The damn client still won't run. I think my best bet would be to try a re-install using a version I know works & patching from there?
Has anyone a client link for something from before Wednesday?
Or has anyone any idea why the new versions of the client won't run under XP?

That's kind of a stretch. Works fine for me and I run XP. If this were true, there would be a big outcry on these forums.
I don't know the answer to your first question. Except, you may want to look under C:\Documents and Settings\yourlogin\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\cache (under the new directory structure) for previous patch downloads.

Anyone else having an issue with the map? I can't access the 'color stars by' options in the map. Meaning I can't check systems for things like recent podkills, number in local and other things. Can't even see the '833 pilots in local' blobs for Jita and such. I've deleted my cache (but not my settings yet) and checked it on all 3 of my characters. Edited by: Ila Lien on 29/07/2007 22:37:50 Whole lots of complaints about ctd's and possible memory leaks in the known issues and workarounds section of the forums. In a nutshell -
After the patch following Rev II, the game often gets the "lost connection" message and crashes to desktop. Another computer on the same network connects fine and has no issues. The character actually loses connection and is dropped form the server before the lost connection appears. The message is only activated when requesting information from the server (such as opening market data, skill data, sending a chat message) and then crashes. Having more than 1 client open increases the occurrence of these errors.
The Tuesday 07/24/07 patch fixed these issues for me and some others. Wednesdays have put them back into full effect and I am now noticing more crashes while active in the game. (Most of the times previous to Wednesday's patch occurred after leaving the client idle for any length of time over a few seconds.)
Lost connections are completely random and happen in any situation whether being in space, in station, with autopilot on, accessing any type of service, etc. I've done multiple network checks on my end and this only happens with Eve. Memory leaks have been mentioned as possibly causing this issue. I cannot track down any specific thing that causes the problem, but it's repeatable by simply logging in a 2nd client or just letting it sit idle for more than a second. I've been using logserver.exe as well as checking my history.txt for the lost connection messages to provide something that might help solve this problem. --

ghaaa it gives me no pleasure to put my pain to words again.
1st congrats to the dev team effort and their accomplishments known and unknown to players. 2nd my pain - the gui. i state again that it gives me no pleasure in bringing this up again. q: why the [u know what word fits here] does it stilllllll consume upto 30 fps? if it is singlethreaded is i read, why ist it fixed after all these patches? i have no idea of how hard this would be, im not trying to be an ass, but id welcome this improovement firt. the damn thing makes eve act like it rapes cpu and gpu to shreds and i cant figure out why? its just a damn gui. htf? take the gui out and there u go! u have a nice smooth rolling feeling. and that spells reality, immersion and all those elements that would overhaul eve addiction to new limits. imho, correcting "minor" things would make do more that thinking how to support fleet battles of 200+ players. cause its the everyday bug that haunts the most. ^^ conclusion: great game, few anoying bugs, great improovement since '04. sincerely BRAVO! but the everyday bugs/flaws still haunt. still since '04
if this problem had been adressed before [and im sure it had been]im sorry for bringing it up again. but it hasnt been resolved yet. im just trying to be constructive.
again congrats and godspeed@dev/patch. hf

I find my second computer is now crashing like something which frequently crashes a lot.
Nothing has changed my end, no bad drivers or any changes. but since your last patch which fixed the memory leak, I frequently crash to desktop, sometimes it forces a reboot. it makes no difference if I'm out in space or simply sat in a station
Its making the game extremely unplayable

I have experienced BSOD's (as somebody noted, total black screen and reboot is a result of WinXP default behaviour of autorebooting after BSOD) multiple times after the last patch.
It seems to happen after jump or warp, especially if I'm jumping to an engagement. A bit sad, when you heart is racing with anticipation of finally getting a contact with the enemy... black screen, reboot, log to eve, ask for gang invite and the only joy left is to ask what the hell happened, cause the fight is already over....
I'll try to send a memorydump from the crash, if the problem persists after tomorrows hardwareupgrade....
