The Jist:
Similar to Battlefield 2, and Half-Life 2's Demo record feature, Eve Online should have a Battle-Recorder, so that you can just record detailed data on a ship fight, then edit, save and play it back at a later date, allowing you to Fraps it then, instead of in the middle of the fight, reducing lag and freeing up the amount of load your comp has to deal with.
This also allows you to create a scene, setting up all the camera-work and fly-by's beforehand, instead of during, making director's jobs easier, and giving them powerful tools with which to create inspiring films!
PvPers! This benefits you too!
In serious fights want high FPS, and low client-side lag, fast load-times and quick computers. Sometimes hard to do with a video recording program running in the background.
The idea is the addition comes in two 'flavours' (I'm Irish, so it's spelled flavours ok?) The Battle-Recorder, and it's smaller partner, the Battle-Player.
Features:
BATTLE-RECORDER
- Records positional, directional information etc. in realtime to your hard drive for later edit and playback, not just raw video and audio frames like current video capture.
- Allows you to edit the saved battle information and add camera tracks, pans and zooms for dynamic and stylish angles over a timeline in realtime.
- Uses only a fraction of what standard video capture tools require, allowing lag-free PvP, fleet or otherwise, as well as detailed recording, at ridiculously high resolutions!!
- With such power over the timeframe, it allows you fine-tuned control on the where the camera is, and doing what at any part of the timeline.
- Snapshots, allowing those perfect Kodak moments to be captured. (Preferably in 24 bit BMP format, or lossless PNG)
- The perfect tool for anyone who doesn't want to Fraps at 1920 x 1200 Shocked, because that would be nuts. Well, now you can record in 1920 x 1200 Shocked, and edit it in realtime, then record your work of art with your favourite video capture tool, convert it to your favourite video format and post it up to eve-files.com for all to appreciate!
BATTLE-PLAYER
- Plays-back the previously edited and saved battle, in full-screen or in windowed mode, ready for you to record with your favourite video-capture tool!
Please guys, been tryin to get support for this for ages, and many many people think it's a good idea.

'Fraid I'm not.
This is the original thread on my Battle-Recorder idea dated 2007.10.01, while this thread is dated 2008.04.19.
I'm just re-posting the idea up so that it's spotted again. I've already had a lot of support in the original thread.

This post is informative and relevant to my interests.
No really, I would love to have access to a feature such as this.
Mainly because my computer is a single core, so recording large fleet engagements results in me getting 5 fps. (not that large fleet battles dont lag enough anyways) lol My views and opinions are my own.

This would certainly make it easier to create videos from within EVE, particularly staged content on Singularity (or a quiet system on TQ) to be used as part of a bigger project could be arranged once with many players then do the tracks, pan, zoom in the recorder at a later date.
I think it would encourage more players to create videos in the future.

That's the plan ^^
I'm hoping that the amount of users who're just gagging to show off spectacular fights will encourage and support the idea.
I know there are some fights out there that were amazing to be part of, and imagine if similar events could be intricately filmed and shot with depth and style, quite literally dragging the viewer into the middle of the action, without having to do it on-the-fly.
I'd buy that for a dollar!

Very useful idea, as you mention it's been suggested a lot, and it would be a worthy addition to the EVE API & tools arsenal. ___ "If you can't debate using logic & fact, and at least recognise other people's point of view, don't waste time posting on forums. It only makes you look like a teenage idiot." |

More amateur combat videos that don't look like ****, and a way for the geniuses behind Clear Skies to get through production faster! It's win-win! ______________________________________

This I believe would be an excellent tool to have, keeping in mind that we have new reporters flying with our faction warfare pilots.

Edited by: Eldstrom on 01/07/2008 15:32:44 Think you've missed the biggest motivation for CCP to implement this, huge amounts of free coverage/advertising from all those amazing HD kick ar*e video clips floating around if only they would make this possible.

The biggest problem I see with this is that being able to have the camera do exactly what you want would result in some very good transitions and great action shots... action shots that would immediatly bring to light just how lame the ship disappearing in ball of flame and reappearing as a generic static wreck truely looks... :-)
For great vids to be truely immersive, some small things need to be fixed... Launchers need to be added, wrecks need to be fractures of the base ship, and capsule ejection ports would be t3h b0m8....
Of course I'm being overly critical, an inflight recorded is something that should have been here since the beginning. Imagine the training that could be done for noob corp members.. "Everyone load up noobguys flight log... Now, see here where he get blown up at the gate while he has no actions for 15 minutes because he was on the phone? Don't do that..."

/signage
the ship tracking could work something along the likes of how GPS tracks work, basically just recording the coordinates, velocity etc of each ship along with whatever weapons were in effect and who got hit by what weapon etc.
This info then gets written into a log file which in itself shouldn't be editable, in order to prevent any "faked" incidents, so some sort of Public Key or PGP signing could be used by the client to do this.
You would then be free to load this file into the battle-recorder and setup your camera tracks etc before exporting it as either a movie or as a playable non-video format file which would be smaller than a video file and which can be opened by the battle-player. Ninja Salvaging ain't stealing
