I think that it can be easily understood that the majority of those that will be affected by the changes think they are, and I'm dumbing it down for those of us that don't want a masters degree in debate, are crap. I think it can also be stated that the players were given access to toys in SiSi, feel in love with them and now they are (and with fair reason) ****ed off because they are now either being altered to where they are no longer recognizable they are being removed from the game for the foreseeable future.
I think that those in the upper tier management for CCP needs of to listen to the complaints of not only the people they are wanting to make (or force) these changes on as these are players that have been loyalist (while not entirely to CCP) to the EVE Universe and will lay out the vast majority of the public opinion that will follow Dominion.
Quite frankly however, you can blame no one but yourselves in allowing paying customers to be your test subjects in the SiSi Server. I think that SiSi is a terrible idea and one that should not be open to the EVE public. Testing is just that..testing. However, when you hand a player something they think will be just the beeÆs knees in and then on a sc**** it, you are just begging for a backlash against your company. And In this case, with SuperÆs and Fighter Bombers, etc etc You are getting exactly what you asked for. A kick in the balls by people that want something they have been given access to. SiSi is a bad idea.

I've only been in Eve about 3 months, but this seems totally WTF...
Surely it isn't that hard to have proper release notes and communicate (I am a programmer - I have to do it.)
If Eve gets screwed over too much here, there are two or three new space MMOs coming out including Star Trek Online.... People will vote with their feet - negative emotions make people do irrational things - like cancelling their subscription...

I thought the whole 'CCP doesn't understand their own game' was simply a troll, but your employees' blatant lack of knowledge displayed in a dev blog that I'm sure has to pass through several hands before publishing proves it really is true. If you have problems understanding how changes will affect the game, propose them to the community and LISTEN TO THE FEEDBACK. Take the mothership changes for example. Why would you completely throw out a potential game mechanic that would affect only very high skilled characters when it seemed to generate such interest? Plot a graph of CSAA use over the last few months, and I'm sure you will see a surge in mothership construction as a result of all the excitement in a new, fresh take on a largely useless ship. Listen to your playerbase and listen to devs like Abathur that actually know what the f**k they are talking about and stop making yourselves look like incompetent idiots.

This is of course if CCP actually listen to the feedback we are giving them instead of saying "ok we've taken all your feedback and months of testing", we will now step on it, light it on fire and then **** on your efforts".

Edited by: Severion Atarkos on 20/11/2009 14:45:51 ^ ^ of course they will lose new players over this too. Any halfwit with a brain can see that CCP is a joke and have lost any confidence from the players that they may have gained back since the T20 incident. I will hold out what little faith I have left in CCP in hopes they will realise they are making a huge mistake and fix it before Dominion.
Noone wants to pay money to an incompetant company that is just going to take your money, ignore demands for a reason and ruin the game that we all love.

CCP:
I know you think "oh its only a few hundred players" who are affected by your non-fix of Motherships.... but maybe you should check production queues...
Rebalancing EVERY other Capital ship _EXCEPT_ the Motherships is stupid.
I think that you are over-estimating the "problem" the community has with your Mothership changes.... I really didn't see too many posts outright against it, they wanted tweaks... more room for fighters, concerns of smartbombs vs. fighter-bombers, etc....
Roll it out and adjust... don't just pull it. I know a LOT of people who were training Fighters 5 for those bombers and many many people in stages of building Motherships.
This is not how you should be handling this.

You know, SOE did something similar to this back in 2005, and it should have been a warning to everyone that the later boot up the ass in the form of the infamous NGE was coming.
SOE had promised something called "CURB" or "Combat Update Rebalance" which was to be a polishing and fixing of the game's original, highly unique combat system. A design was proposed, debated, tested by a select group on a test server. Everyone who saw it, liked it. Sound familliar?
Then, without any notice at all, that idea was completely dumped and replaced by a half assed, rushed out the door to make a deadline, dumbed down, bug ridden, LEVEL BASED system called the "Combat Upgrade". The player base was furious and started leaving in droves. 6 months later the NGE came out, and it turns out the "Combat Upgrade" was really nothing more than a bridge system designed to allow the game to be dumbed down into the NGE.
Everything CCP is doing right now reeks of this. You, CCP, are making the same mistakes SOE did. You are lusting after the players you don't have (casual konsole kiddz) and are forsaking the players you have. You are clearly making changes to EVE designed to accommodate it to your "target audience". Such as dumbing down the sov system. And you clearly don't like the fact that we have capital ships, so you want to make them so bad no one will want them or fly them.
CCP, time to step back, and clear the drawing board. Missing an expansion completely is not as bad as losing your whole game.

And that is the crux of the situation. If its your thing to go into SiSi and monkey around with stuff, then I'm all for it. If you log into SiSi because you are under the misbegotten belief that youÆll log in and because you have been given VÆs across the board and blowing up that third titan (hahaha did you see him go boom!) will make a difference on the way the game is developed then I think you need to take a step back and lay down that pipe of over-bloated ego and understand that the information they want from your 'testing' isn't from anything that you'll ever see. ItÆs all information that would be gathered behind the scene.
You (and by saying You I mean the collective You) must understand by now that any posting on the topic prior to its release isnÆt going to make one iota of difference in it being released or not released. When a company ask for æfeedbackÆ it is in the majority of the time a way to release the pressure valve off of a situation and allow those involved in the ætestingÆ of X-widjit to publicly state their pros and cons of said item or change. It will in the majority of the time have zero relevance into any final decision making process used by a CCP or any company.

Take out RR capabilities of Super carriers.
So; 1- Carriers still will be usefull 2- There wont be any EW resistant Super Spider Tanks that doesnt die. 3- Scarrier + Titan combo will not be the ultimate combo. Actually there wont be such a combo but just coincidence. 4- Dreads will be happy as they can still pawn carriers (triaged or not) 5- Scarriers will be happy. Still moving and pawning capitals and still have huge buffer to remote rep from carriers 6- Carriers will be happy, still usefull 7- Support will be happy. still can jam or kill carriers.
Magic rule take out the Remote reps from motherships.
Agree here, everybody is happy and it solves lots of the current problems
While on this, equalize their dps by changing their bonuses, so we dont have DPS supercarrier that actually can DPS 25% better than the rest thus making them obsolete.
Imagine what it will be if all the dreadnoughts has the same range but one of them has 25% better DPS while the rest has some questionable bonuses on shield or armor resistances.
If the new supercarrires main role will be anti-capital dps so be it, just don't let one of them to surpass the rest by such a huge margin in doing its main job.

Ridiculously cheap capital ships, moon nerf, I can see reducing the extremely high prices but they are artificially inflated. If r32 and r16 are worth more than an r64 after the patch, I guess that does open the market to newer players, but it is a direct manipulation of the market.

So, CCP. It is now 17 hours since the devblog appeared and the first angry feedback tickled in.
Since you believe that your changes are resonable and in the best of the game, please can you care to explain them again? Because the blog doesn't explain a single thing - it just makes completely idiotic assumptions which are all untrue (targetpainting sieged capitals, capital battles at long range etc.).
I observed also in the other threads that you refuse to answer any questions unless there is a really huge outcry and you cannot do other than damage controlling. Why don't you just come forward and explain in detail for example why Abathurs changes were scrapped? Why don't you give us numbers (dps, dd cooldown, max hp etc.)? Why don't you try to EXPLAIN things? Why don't you send in the communication experts and instead just delete posts? Why do you waste time deleting posts instead of making yourself useful with alarming the senior devs? Why are the last couple of devblogs about the biggest changes Eve ever saw such a clusterf*ck? Why can't you just TALK and take the FEEDBACK serious? Just don't make some cosmetic changes, take the feedback SERIOUS!
Your players know tons more about this game than your devs (apprently your dev(s) do not even know how capital battles are fought or that you cannot target paint sieged dreads!), WHY DONT YOU LISTEN to all that amazing knowledge available and utilize it like for example Abathur did??
If you continue like this, you will end up very badly very quickly. |

Quoted from Torfi Frans Olafsson - Senior Producer of Eve Online
"Right now there is 120 developers working on the Dominion expansion" -how can 120 developers screw up every aspect of this patch?
"Fighterbombers are pretty awesome ships, and it's very pleasing watching them on the devs monitors now blowing up titans, So the idea is kinda now to balance capital ships, the dreadnaught became something they weren't supposed to do, they were meant to destroy stationary objects or slow moving objects but they became more like anti-capital ships and fighterbombers are for killing other capital ships and the have citadel torpedoes which is pretty awesome so you better be moving when one of these is on your tail" -nice promise to something you are deleting completely, what happened to balancing capital ships?

Question from a Goon: "Here at fanfest the dev team always really gushes about how much our input is really valuable to you guys, can you give us some idea of things you've heard here or things you really like?" Answer from Hilmar Veigar Petursson...CEO of CCP: "It's really the communication with the people that directly do the work which is important, like we have a designer or programmer that is working on something specific, talking to people that actually use it on a day to day basis that is really the valuable feedback." -Uh... we are talking to you through the forums and apparently you don't see it as valuable because you are ignoring us. |

Nozh, CCP.....
Im still waiting for a answer about what we should do who has invested 20bn isk in a ship we thought would be something we could use due to the information you gave us a month ago.
I could have invested the 20bn isk in 20 carriers.
So i think we should make a deal, Nozh. Talk to your boss to spawn 20 carriers in my hangar and you can remove the MS from the hangar array. Or just transfer the isk to my account and i can buy them my self.
The interesting thing about this is that you and CCP havent sayed anything after you post the blog. Why is that? Dont you have anything to say about this? Wouldnt it be a good thing to make some kind of post about WHY you wont make something about the MS and why in the name of god did they put you on the job and what made you change EVERYTHING from the first blog and everything you talked about in fanfest?????? |

AAA, Atlas, IT, GS, Morsus Mihi, Razor, PL, basically everyone in nullsec is united and horrified by the fact that CCP has taken a competent dev (Seleene) and put someone who has absolutely no clue about anything in charge of capital ships, perhaps the single most balance-critical class of ship in the game. All of us are banding together, despite our differences, to flame the muck out of this thread and call for CCP Nozh's removal from anything to do with caps. Hell, a mucking AAA guy called repeatedly for a threadnaught.
This is a sign of the 'old CCP' of T20 and Tuxford rearing its ugly head. It must be crushed.
The mods are doing their level best to delete anything in this thread because the fact that Nozh is blindingly incompetent - while obvious to all - apparently cannot be allowed to stand in the open.
At Fanfest, CCP kept going on about 'Excellence' as their corporate motto. Let's fling that at them. How exactly does this count as excellence, or god forbid 'hardening the muck up'? Is 'Excellence' ruining capitals with an incompetent after the playerbase had participated in a transparent, two-way feedback process that was widely hailed? |

I do find this sudden changes to be strange.
First a big MOM cahnge after weeks of testing? Then suddenly a revert to old pre testing MOMs, even when they where given a role, a role in anti cap work by use of Fighter Bombers. People was actually acceptiong and liking the idea. The very same people who fly thease super caps.
Imo, let the supercarrier go in the game as you have tested it in many weeks.
And just make a new mothership later.
Even tho I fly BS at most, and use time and resources for this, the ammount of time and resources the super cap pilots put into getting and flying such ships is huge! If MOMs go live in Dominion as is, they will be expencive pod losses.
I also think you need to be more consistent, and you need to be more open towards your player base. Why the sudden change of dev on super caps? Why the super drastic proposed change? Why the revert? Why?
