Other games charge for expansions as well. CCP is not obligated to do something just because other companies do.

I assume they did do this. These things are very hard to estimate.
Errr, no they are not, if you know what you are doing.
I work on a huge system, and we always get it back up before or on the time estimate that we give.
Its what we get paid for.

CCP is a big society which receives many incomes from Eve Online. As a serious and commercial society, CCP should give all members one more day as this is part of their service to offer updates and develop the game, whatever is the cost of the loss.

Does ~16 cents really mean that much to you?
You're kidding aren't you, its nigh on 2 days of downtime if you take the Tyrannis patch into account as well
so 32 cents...
Oh, and would like to give you all the advance notice that the next delay will be delayed until this delay is taken care of. After that, it will be delayed on schedule. They will give everyone a 100% training increase for 10 hours followed by a 10 hour 50% decrease in training time to average it out.

Originally by: smoopmeister Seriously, a lot of you need to learn to read your EVE ToS where it will enlighten you as to your entitlements during extended downtimes.
Quite a lot of people also have no clue what moving an entire live system to new hardware entails while ensuring no loss of data. This upgrade will benefit everyone. For those of you incapable of setting long skill queues, tough ****.
Hate to break it for you but most ppl are whining about the ETAs. I know what hell moving can be and the things you can stumble upon but when you fail to deliver after 2 ETA's you MUST have done something wrong: ESTIMATION. Make it 24h so everyone will be happy, don't leave your players refreshing eve-o to no avail.
ETC instead of ETA :D Of those who say nothing, few are silent |

Sometimes, when something changes, you can run into unexpected problems. To fix these problems, you need an offline TQ, and extra time. Guess what happened? :)
Besides, if they just switched TQ on with the problems in place, you'd be whining even harder.

tbh I think a lot of the moaning in here about reimbursement etc. is entirely due to the failure of CCP to adequately time these upgrades/patches. If they wrote into the TOS that on every patch/upgrade day, the server could possibly be down for a maximum of 24 hours, you would remove 99% of the **** thats in here.

Originally by: CCP Fallout Hello all,
We have successfully moved our Tranquility servers to their new location, and Tranquility is scheduled to return to service at 23:00 UTC. Our original plan was to have the Web sites and Tranquility returned to service at 15:00 UTC, however, during the move we discovered network and SAN switch issues, which resulted in an extended service return delay. We have resolved those issues, and are working on returning Tranquility to service as quickly as possible.
Thank you all for your patience while we undertook this necessary server move. For more information about the move itself, please check out CCP YokaiÆs dev blog .
Update #1: EVE Gate is tied to Tranquility and will be down until TQ returns to service.
Not wanting to belittle what is a mammoth undertaking, I believe there should be a review of how this process was conducted which resulted in an almost doubling of lost time.
Was there numerous trial runs undertaken? If so, that would hopefully of highlighted the technical issue CCP encountered and resulted in a more accurate DT forecast? If not, what are CCP going to do about it?
Updating the customer: I personally found the information stream lacking with regards to updating the customer. All is takes is 20 seconds to update a facebook post and this was late, so late that there was time for CCP to post about something else before updating their customers. I personally feel a little let down, I know I can claim nothing back as CCP will be covered by the EULA.
I would just have liked some more respect shown to the people who provide a substantial amount of CCP's revenue.
Anyway, good luck with what work you have left.

Originally by: Kha'Alpha Edited by: Kha''Alpha on 23/06/2010 21:12:38 SIMPLY not the point, we where given a deadline, a specific time, a time of completion, if this had been finished ON TIME, no one would care, but.....they have ran over by hours and hours, so now when tranq actually returns ALOT of EU players will be sleeping so we are essentially losing a full 24hours of gaming because of false promises.
Regardless of cost it is still worth reimbursement, and if it is such a small amount of money CCP wont have a problem actually reimbursing its customers for once and actually following the renowned "Customer Comes First" Remark,
Come on people stop brown nosing, and tell them exactly how you feel, we have been done out of too much gaming time here regardless of server upgrades.
If we had been told the server would be back up in 48hours no-one here would be complaining what so ever.
All i can say is get it sorted tbh
And ye what a waste tyrannis really is........one of the worst patched of all time.
It's a game. Really guys. It's a game. Breathe.
Also, if they said 48 hours, the same people would be in here commenting about how ridiculous the downtime would be and be clamoring for the gametime back anyways. It really isn't that big of a deal. They do a helluva job.
Breathe. Relax. It'll be back soon. Grab a brew.

If the web page response times is any clue to the improved performance of the server, there's going to be a nice decrease in lag levels.

Working in IT myself, i can't say how much stressful, hard and painful is to have someone near you watching and breathing on your neck saying "are you done yet?" whining about how long you take to finish an "easy task", obviously for someone not even able to connect his computer to the network. So, kudos to CCP IT, make the best work you can, take the time you need and do a wonderful job!

Ok I have to agree WhatÆs the bloody point in posting deadlines 13.00- 23.00 my foot I think your customer service is Fc.uking disgusting, were PAYING customers yes CCP we PAY for your services. Do you know the meaning to CUSTOMER SATISFACTION???!!!! Also I canÆt believe you relied on face book for your updates, that gave us hardly information apart from your bloody estimated deadlines which you have broken many of times since IV been paying for your services, also how Fc.uking lazy is it to rely on a forum for information from devs so lazy.
IÆm sure your multi million dollar company could of thrown up a tempury website which provided us with proper updates. For future downtimes scrap the estimated times and make out your offline for 2 days+ and finish before and everyone will love you for it.
I usually the person in the threds thatÆs like good job ccp but hold on a sec you taking the P1ss out of us.
For anyone who things IÆm stupid or what ever. what if you bought a $1000 Rolex watch and it broke the first day you had it, and the bloke behind the counter told you to file a petition, or check face book for information how to return it or log on there forum and wait to speak to a dev. They should I hope have good customer skill/relations to sort your problem out.
And now this topic how many Devs reply to you we all no not many.
My rant is over CCP sort yourself out train your staff in customer Service/support and for god sake kill the estimated deadlines

It's the same formula in all IT server / infrastructure upgrades
ACTUAL DOWNTIME = ESTIMATED DOWNTIME + NUMBER OF PIZZA'S CONSUMED + LAST TWO DIGITS OF PROJECT MANAGERS PHONE NUMBER / NUMBER OF ETHERNET CABLES REQUIRED

They should have asked for much more time to move, so people could wait. but if you delay all the time, people gets ****ed off. it is said to be 0900 to 1500 then it has changed to 1800 then again changed to 2100 and now it says 2400.. This is really annoying. I have sorted my training queue but some people might not. I think people deserves more than just an apology. 40k people waiting here.
