Hmm i doubt we'll ever find out but im more convinced they just screwed up the timing because they forgot to take into account the WC game this afternoon.

Clearly some of you have no clue about what relocating a server like TQ involves.
I suggest you take this opportunity to use a screwdriver and take apart the computer sitting in front of you. By the time you blow all the dust out of it, install a bit more DRAMM, and a new Graphics Card, Tranquility will be back up.
Wait, you suggest to spend 8 hours with cleaning my computer and installing new RAM and a new graphics card?! CCP's estimations aren't good enough to spend the extra time with such an expensive hobby.
Share some of the exquisite stuff you're smoking. NOW!
I'm also very pleased with all the IT guys in here complaining about people not knowing that such a move takes many many hours and completely forget that the guys at CCP made the inital 6 hour estimate.

erm... actually when you subscribe to eve you pay for gametime which is supposed to be 24/7 ( not even 23/7 ) according to the TOS. Would be illegal to ask you to pay for a downtime they do not specify in advance before payment.
and not even starting to talk about the "monthly payment" which is in fact 30 days even tho 50% of the months have 31 day ( btw paypal DOES refund the money of such grounds, would you call them idiots ? ).

you could just.. you know... stop your *****ing and wait like the rest of us. At least CCP is trying to do something about their lag. And to the rest of you! If you wanna keep your *****ing on, go play in traffic for breakfast. Do the world a favor.
He does have a point. How CCP managed to go 8 hours over their schedule beats me. That's a full work day. 14 full hours to do something predicted to take 6 hours. They more than doubled the expected time.
Sh*t happens, mate. Seriously. Deal with it. Go read a book or something and wait to see if TQ is back online. All this b*tching just proves that people are far too obsessed with virtual reality. REMEMBER: THIS IS A F*CKING GAME! GET OVER YOURSELVES!!!
Remember, I'm not the one who appears to be mad here, mate

Originally by: Janus riddick CCP's biggest issue here, as with all the upgrades that have taken place, is not the complexity, nor the issues/faults that are found that cause the delays a lot of players moan about.. their single biggest issue is that they do not seem to be able to manage expectations.
As has been said earlier in this thread and others over the years, accurate timescales for completing any given task can be notoriously difficult to predict.
CCP, for a move of this complexity you should have just said "Tranquility will be down from xx:xxhrs UTC and will be back up 12-24 hours later. We will keep you updated every 2 hours from xx:xxhrs+10 UTC and will notify you immediately Tranquility is accepting connections."
Players would then expect downtime of at least 12 hours, while knowing that it may extend to 24 hours. I believe most players would then expect Tranquility to be offline 24 hours and would plan according, and would be happy if it came back before then.
Just saying...
You are fully right. But to be honest, nice job CCP.

Originally by: John Queen The only reason why so many people are complaining is that CCP is a major company and that they have to provide their service at all times or reimburse. Take a look at Dedicated Servers Hosting Services, they do reimburse you when your server encounters an unexpected downtime or when they have to do maintenances.
I'm gonna start a list of people so stupid they deserve to be griefed/wardec'ed.

My concern about the downtime is not about reimbursement for the time lost. It is centered around me being a new layer, and as such my skills don't take 47 days each to train. I made an effort to set up my queue to finish 18:00 server time as that was plenty to cover the stated downtime. Now with the endlessly extended downtime, my skill queue is completely empty and my time lost represents whole skill levels I can get as a low skill level player, which makes a huge impact on the game for me. What's going to be done about this, if anything? It's not like it's a 1 day delay on a 50 day skill that you aren't exactly salivating over anyway...

Originally by: Serpentii I would like to add to this is that is always the Europeans that take the brunt of the downtime. Why not swap it around so that us Euros are asleep when it happens.
The same comment could be made about regular DT, why not swap it around so that it's in the middle of the US day. I have always found this DT to be really annoying.
We are all paying customers and should get similar service!

hope its just jitters, but i've noticed that the api feed claims in evemon that my char suddenly takes 10 ekstra days for training! on one char its 15 days extra, than before dt, but generally 10+ days added!
Exception is for low rank skills though..
The noticable thing is for capital industrial ships before dt it was around 38 days now its 46 days, other example is gallente carrier 5, before 42 days now 56 days..
I hope this is just due to the fact that server is not up yet!

I would first like to say thankyou to CCP for upgrading the service and equipment for the alternate world that we all like to escape to.
I myself have not been playing all that long, but as I work in IT I understand that "****e happens", I can also understand from a player point of view as to why so many get upset( not that is fixes the issue ).
All i can say is if the sun is up in your neck of the woods go get some sunshine, mow your lawn that you have been neglecting, go play with your little sister, Let CCP do there job, and you go on with your life.
And for those that are ****ed of and demanding game time to be added for a small delay, SHAME SHAME SHAME

Well so far I've managed to eat, shower, sleep, discover squatters in my house (they claim to be family, but meh you can't trust anyone these days)and generally finish off a lot of things that take longer than an hour.
Photos of the new server room please, so that certain whiners can see exactly how much work was involved.

Originally by: John Queen Keep up the good work CCP ! Moving a server and having it set up in less than one day is exceptionnal considering the size of Tranquility.
However it would be normal to give one day to all players for the loss, even if it's only one CCP should feel concerned about the fact that every subscription gives an exact amount of time, all of this regardless of major updates and long downtimes.
Well its not THAT big, its just a few blades, a big box and some cables. Now, they could simplify the wiring if they went wireless.
PS: Its not up yet and the day is almost over :)
You gotta be kidding about running wireless instead of wired on a high demand traffic system...
BTW, someone probably already said that to you, I'm a slow reader ;)

@ Alloin - While i sympathise with you, you could have trained a single skill up to lvl5, nearly all lvl5 skills take at least a day to compleate, added ontop of the previous 4 lvl's it could easily have pushed it into the 48 hour mark. Just somthing to remember for next time :)

Originally by: WhyteWulf A quick explanation of why CCP won't give you anything for downtime: 1)You were warned about it (and your an idiot if you thought it would be back up at 1500UTC on the dot) 2)Its in the ToS 3)Your skill training queue is still working through its schedule (which is a lot more than other game corps would do) 4)it cost about 0.51p or c per day. If your watching your budget THAT much, perhaps you shouldn't be subscribing to an online game in the first place.
1. yes but they didint mention it could take 12 hours instead mentioned 6 hours. 2. Local laws kick ass ToS. Its failure of ccp not be able to anticipate that there will be problems that needs to be solved, so they should book couple extra hours in advance to solve them. 3. Whats skills have to do about it? I like fights not watch skill points counter count up. I can make javasript page thats counts up if thats onlything im interested. 4. So its still my money. multiply that 0.51 with 300000 accounts and it starts to be big money mate. So big that consumer protection officials might have something to say about ccps process of handling this.
23.35 and no server. Looks like extended extended extended extended downtime.

I LOVE topics like this ... Maybe people should take a closer look at the ToS on all the other services they pay for. Most utilities don't guarantee you their service 24x7, they will certainly get it back up and running as quickly as possible but no guarantee.
Most internet service providers GUARANTEE 0 bytes/sec ... yes you read that right, they will forever and honestly provide you with ZERO throughput, yet you happily pay them monthly for this service.
Instead of raging all over the place maybe feel a little fortunate that they can physically move an entire environment in a matter of hours instead of days or weeks.
