Nope. UTC is GMT run on atomic clocks. GMT is taken from the position of the Sun relative to the Earth. ie Noon GMT is when the Sun is over the Greenwich Meridian. Which is the same, winter or summer. Much of Europe is on various versions of DST, but that doesn't change the position of the Greenwich Meridian, and it doesn't change GMT or UTC.

Holy hell cant CCP keep a deadline....Why publish deadlines and such if you cant keep them.
Here is what I recommend set your dead line long enough to allow for issues (for ex you could have said it would come back at 23:00 in the first place to allow for issues even tho you expected it to come up at 15:00) and if the server comes back sooner then the posed deadline people will be happy instead of complying and ranting. Seriously it's not that hard of a thing to do.

Could not connect to the specified address. Odds are that you have not established an internet connection, the server isn't running, or the server address or port number was wrong.

Exception is for low rank skills though..
The noticable thing is for capital industrial ships before dt it was around 38 days now its 46 days, other example is gallente carrier 5, before 42 days now 56 days..
I hope this is just due to the fact that server is not up yet!
anyone else notice the same bug ?
Gotcha, i hope its just a sick bug locally for me then!
Just you, my queue is fine
This 5 min timer is crap!

It seem that this operation was pretty big, and and not very well planned (no room for setbacks (SAN switch)). The time for the server to come back only is being pushed out over and over. You guys be much better off telling us the server be down for 24 hours or something, rather then keeping pushing out the server up time repeatedly.
Other than that, the web-site performance greatly improved, thanks a bunch for that.
Please get the server back up ASAP, my hands are shacking Is there some thing like eveholic anonymous?
Cheers

I hope your account gets accidentally deleted and takes 3 weeks to be restored and then someone tells you to "calm down and go out, do something"

Originally by: Aslan Inbarr I have to say I'm amazed that there are people who play and understand eve that actually took the initial downtime estimate seriously.
You're amazed that Eve players assumed a basic level of competence at CCP. I doubt the point you are thus making was quite the one you intended. Yes, it's a complex task, but CCP's inability to come up with a realistic ETC is simply not good enough.
I haven't read every post in this topic, but the majority of the complaints are not, as you seem to think, about the length of time the changes are taking but the overrun. If CCP had originally given an ETC of 23:00, you would be making a valid point. They didn't. You aren't.
CCP, like any other gaming company out there, is going to put out their best (case) estimate. They are very rarely accurate. Therefore people are quite naive to believe them. That was my point. I expect a bit more wisdom, or at least cynicism, out of the Eve crowd.
As for the first part, you are right, I could have worded that a bit better.
And cynicism you will get. Their estimation was c*** and if you don't believe someone with which you have a serious relationship (they get paid right?), theres a problem. I don't care if it takes 3h or 2d, I only care about them giving completely remote ETCs to their customers. Of those who say nothing, few are silent |

try to understand about moving this stuff.
1-unplug all 2-move all 3-plug all 4-try to figure out which cord is not plug at the right place 5-Edit this post to tell people server is back online
It take time, YES They always tell server will be back at UTC X-hour, YES It's often reported, YES
But who know the work it represent to move those kind of server? Not much of us.
For anything else --> MasterCard XD
fly safe guys hummmm well when we will be able to go back IG :P
Try to understand COMPETENT server migration 1. set up new hardware and test connections BEFORE shutting old server down. 2.On migration day test new hardware to ascertain no connections are bad 3.perform migration. 4.Boot new cluster up and run diagnostics 5. open for connections and lastly 6.Profit??? They weren't just moving the old server hardware buddy, they were migrating eve to a new farm with updated servers
They are using the same servers, just consolidated everything into the same room, why would you waste millions of dollars buying all new servers to move everything to a different room and upgrade the networking equipment?

cracking up, normal upgrades are always overestimated, this seems a pretty major chage.. (don't have foggiest what it involves, but a lot of f'ing effort springs to mind)
CCP 12hrs = normal 18-24hrs, 7pm=2am etc etc its a day off chill pills, long skills and enjoy life.
millionthing giving worst case estimates/timings so people don't get over frustrated at inevitable problems.

I can't upgrade my computer without something going wrong causing it to take double or triple the time I expected it to take... so I've no problem with the extended downtime. I expected it (6 hours seemed awful short to me).
Besides, gives me time to do stuff that gets neglected thanks to Eve... my kitchen hasn't been this clean since, well, since the extended Tyrannis expansion downtime :)
Loving how fast the forums are loading now! Wow!
Keep up the good work CCP!

+1 for this. Dont give us super optimistic deadlines, since we all know you fail at them anyways. In fact some one might make solid claim is misleading consumer advertisement on this. Better to reserve enough time in advance and of all goes well come back online early then this rulette of 4-5*exteded downtime.
