Isn't there a setting to disable this function?

I believe the idea of the pod is that it is a "mind-link" medium for the character to interact directly with the ships control systems and excape system. As the capsuleer pilot is a heavily invested in individual, compared to the rest of the ships crew (if any). I like to think of the captain/pilot/capsuleer is "hardwired" either wirelessly or with wires, to the ship, but there is a captains chair, bridge, etc. And that in the event of ship destruction, an emergency system is activated that encloses the captains chair in the pod and is ejected.
I do not believe there is any lore in the past that stated that characters can not leave their pods.
Capsuleers actually sit in a goo-filled pod, the capsule you see when your ship explodes, but they can get out of it. I think it is a combination of hardwire/wireless connections. But they can get out, I just read some lore linked on the main site that seems to support this.

I have personally belived that my avatar commands his crew from the bridge of my ships and in a event of imminent destruction ejects in the escape pod. I dont like the idea of being neurally linked i prefer a nice captains seat. Rangers lead the way!

not realy. last time i was moaning was around 2008 (?) when GM NeverPlayedThisGameBeforeWhatIsIt decided to nerf the sh1.t out of carriers/motherships but a few more ppl joined me on forum and he changed his mind.
"The new player experience has gotten somewhat easier" - dude, when i started to play this stupid game many new players sometimes had troubles to even understand what killed them. - CEOs while deploying POS (pieces-of-sh1.t, what we were calling them at the time) where cursing heavens life was hursh, hard and exciting. do you expect me to be impresed with walking? if i want to pay/play game where i can walk i would just log into quake, for free mate.
Looks like your character has been in the game since January of 2006. Not bad, assuming you didn't buy it from someone else.
Got you beat though -- July, 2004 for me. And I know there are still people in the game who started in beta.
So, we've all got stories to tell, some good, some not so good.
Running a dual Nvidia GTX 460 SLI rig here, and no problems. Push Physx to the second card. Saw an advertisement for a 460 card for $99 US yesterday. Too bad for me, I paid twice that a year ago for each of mine.
Wish I had some of the net speeds people are posting.

There is, it's only for a short while as far as I gathered reading the first dozen pages of this thread. But now that I think about it, you should be able to set a single, or multiple, station as your "home", and have that station be the one you walk around in, and leave the old-style hangar for other ones. It seems like it'd be the best of both worlds, and seems like it would be more fitting and realistic.

your statement is valid, again. that's why children dont vote, cause no one cares what they think. lack of experience.
4yrs you are saying? then i guess you have missed the best times of eve, unfortunately. around 2005 i believe we had the most fun in this game. down hill since... (unless you love black screens, lag-fests, blobs and such. i dont)

"Old players" complaining about changes and how the old days were - its not just restricted to EVE. This is a global issue with most companies. Run by old men, not willing to change their ways an evolve with the rest of the industry.
CCP are setting a benchmark, bridging 2 gaming platforms together with the release of Dust514. They obviously have a lot of groundwork and items and features to change to make the release of dust514 go smoothly, because console gamers are less forgiving than PC/MAC users.
But reading many of the posts here, it could change your opinion on that fact. I have seen posts asking for a "known bugs/issues" area. This is the worse thing a company can do, as this basically highlights incompetence. "We know what the issues are, but there is no updates as to when we might fix them" The worse approach a company can take towards its customer base. At the end of the day that is what we all are to CCP, they do not aim to disappoint.
The only good point i have read is about CCP perhaps being too ambitious with their release times, then "suddenly realizing" its going to take longer. Someone needs sacked for making these poor judgements of estimated times. Players will troll you forever for that! Will make sites for ISK |

you just have to read about how cloning works to see capsuleers dont leave there pods there monitored 24/7 and at point of death there loaded into a new body in a new pod, which is loaded directly into ship, they then comunicate via coms to crew, thats how i understood it anyways Enternal life at cost of a even smaller prison then a normal human

(Asus AMD Radeon HD 6950 DirectCU II 2GB Graphics Card)I had this new computer custom built for me so I could get as much game play out of eve that I could, and what have you lot just done?? screwed around with the damn graphics that's what !! what's the point in folks upgrading there computers, have you lot got something against AMD / ATI?? just 1 question for you lot now WHY??????...I suspect you have your hands in NVIDIA'S pocket as well have you ... NOT HAPPY...
I would suspect the game will run well with hardly any difference for you compared to Nvidia users?
Some minor features arn't compatible and it is partly to do with the AMD/ATI cards isn't it?
ATI = Performance on a Budget Nvidia = new features on latest tech.
CCP went with latest tech, dudes who decided with budget cards get left behind.
ATI users should be upset they chose an inferior product, not that CCP chose to develop on newer, superior technology.
Yet another example of an nVidia fanboy pulling things out of their ass with absolutely nothing to actually back up the statement.
If you spent any small amount of time searching the web and reading about the whole "ATI vs. nVidia" battle, you'd know that both companies have made great advances in GPU tech and continue to do so.
There is no clear cut "superior" here. The whole reason the battle is so competitive is because both of the companies continue to one-up each other at an alarming rate. Each has has countless "victories" over the other as new tech surfaces on both sides.
CCP went with nVidia on this one. That's all. They chose to tailor the game to nVidia hardware. Just like countless other developers/publishers choose to tailor theirs to AMD/ATI.
I personally have multiple boxes with nVidia and AMD/ATI tech in them. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. It all depends on the software your trying to run on them at this point. I don't see a clear cut "winner" in this race any time soon.
Stop talking out of your anus.

So... I hope SOMEONE sees this and answers amongst the flurry of comments about the extended downtime...
Situation: I have a character who's skillqueue now ends during the downtime. Question: Does anyone know if there is a precedent for getting the skillpoints back for time spent with an empty queue in situations like this, and how might I get reimbursed?
- I couldn't get online for RL reasons last night, was relieved when the plan said it should be back up in time, but now its extended past the training completion time... relief is now gone

At least they apply it properly, i'd rather they overshot deadlines and did it well, than do what blizzard do with world of warcraft and rush it, and screw it up nearly every time so have to constantly apply fixes to remove the millions of bugs and glitches. try focusing on what they do well instead of slagging off all the shortfallings, nothings perfect.
