We THE PEOPLE demand:
1. MT containing vanity items ONLY. That is the most important issue and the one that causes most rage. We want you to tell us that you will NOT sell standings, skills, ammo, or uber ships via NEX store. Don't lie to us. Don't tell us that what Soundwave wrote in your internal newsletter is just his "personal opinion" and it doesn't matter, It's an opinion of a lead game designer and we want CCP to ASSURE US THAT THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN.
2. CQ to be an option to enter from the old hangar view a) because we aren't ALL here to play barbies in stations. b) because implementation sux technically (fried PCs, more load on some PCs than full-maxed Crisis 2, just read the forums) c) don't tell us it's our fault and lousy gear that you cannot code a 5by5 dark room which does not take 100% of gpu power on a modern machine. d) image of a door is not an acceptable option, just put old hangar view back in.
3. Assurance, that you WILL NOT introduce in-game obstacles just to sell us the option to remove them, like you did with saving of ship fittings (move them to server, put limit of 50 fittings in place, get paid for increasing the limit? cunning). a) remove the one obstacle already introduced, give us option to keep unlimited number of fittings locally like it was before.
Meet above demands, and the playerbase will cool down. Don't act stupid and pretend that we rage about the price of monocle. That is the matter you want to explain to the media and the gaming industry, which are all laughing at you. We will simply not buy it.
If you don't plan to comply to the above, tell us now, so we can stop investing our time and money in your service.
TL;DR: 1. No to selling advantages. 2. Ship spinning back. 3. No to introducing obstacles to sell option to remove them.
THIS!

Edited by: Maisonian on 24/06/2011 23:51:31 An important paragraph from glassdoor
"Several years now CCP has predicated insane subscriber goals that cannot be met. Naturally this is met with scepticism by the employees but it falls on deaf ears. The result is that the company is suffering because we cannot sustain the development of EVE, DUST and WOD. EVE is not creating enough revenue which means that solutions are sought, solutions that CCP was vehemently against a few years ago."
This completely explains WHY the company is SO desparate to bring in MT and impliment game changing mechanics through the 'pay to win' button. They've just made a greedy grab for as much money as they can to resolve the problems they're having sustaining such a high turnover of development. The problem is that they wont answer the question on everyone's mind because they KNOW the utter crapstorm it will bring and loose them further revenue.

CCP may or may not be ruining EVE but this bad publicity and their game being pulled through the mud is almost definitely going to ruin them.
So, much as I appreciate your post Pann, you, as a business, need to get your PR sorted out. This looks awful all over the internet. Current MMOers and prospective MMOers are seeing this...
Zulu's blog is a total joke. It's loaded with attitude and doesn't answer the questions which we all know you have read. You'd be better off saying nothing at all than trying to gloss things over. It makes you look stubborn or inept...neither is a quality I tend to invest hard earned money in...

Quote: CCP Games Anonymous in Reykjavik (Iceland): (Past Employee - 2011)
ôThe longer you stay the more it hurtsö
Pros The Reykjavik office is very family friendly and youÆll often find children running around the office. During lunch it is also acceptable to bring in spouses and children. If you have a family and want to spend additional time with them this could be a way. ItÆs a place where anyone can get a start in the industry because turnover in departments like QA is still rather high. The way you talk matters more than your actual experience and you can take advantage of this during the interviews. The Atlanta office is a different place and doesnÆt suffer from the serious unprofessionalism as much as the Reykjavik office. The sad thing is that they too pay the price by seeing their work halted for years at a time to jump ship and bandage EVE up.
Cons The lack of professionalism is mind blowing. Procedures that are common in other companies are not used here and considered a waste of time. There is no solid vision for EVE which leaves employees with no other option than to start work and find out what is wanted by trial and error, this is what CCP means with Agile development. Fun game play is not a priority, promises made to investors and aesthetics are. æIf it looks good then it is goodÆ is an often heard motto. CCP is committed to use technology in EVE as well as WoD and DUST, so certain features are made and used in EVE knowing they will not be fun, nor fit EVE and no one expects them to be appreciated by the playerbase. Alienating the playerbase of EVE further. Objections from employees who point this out are waved away. CCP does not take criticism well and often ignores retrospectives. Criticism is considered to be a negative attitude and is severely frowned upon. A lot of effort goes into maintaining a good morale with a lot of internal PR. After all itÆs cheaper to print posters than pay an average salary to employees. Several years now CCP has predicated insane subscriber goals that cannot be met. Naturally this is met with scepticism by the employees but it falls on deaf ears. The result is that the company is suffering because we cannot sustain the development of EVE, DUST and WOD. EVE is not creating enough revenue which means that solutions are sought, solutions that CCP was vehemently against a few years ago. Career progression is nonexistent unless you become friends with the right clique of people and use the right corporate buzzwords. Hard work is not something that will set you apart, most people work hard until they become so disillusioned as they realise it makes no difference and slack off. Combine this with the below average pay (CCP pays 30% to 50% less than other companies) and youÆll often hear a lot of frustration when work is discussed outside of the office by people who have been here for some time. The longer you stay the less you start to care about the game you develope, because no one else does.
Advice to Senior Management Recruit very senior people from the games industry and actually listen to what they say. Stop believing your own hype.

No, they know quite well what people are angry about, and they can see where it's going. The developers of this game may do some ill-advised things, but they're intelligent people.
However, they're owned by outside investors, and told what they will do. "Microtransactions" and "virtual goods" are hot buzzwords. A number of dying games are making a decent profit from them. The owners of CCP and their representative, Joseph Gallo (formerly of Citigroup), have set the strategic direction of the company. The devs do not have the option to disagree with game-altering in-game purchases, as it is the decreed direction of the company. Publicly disagreeing with the corporate policy is likely to be at the cost of termination of employment. Iceland's economy is in a pretty sorry state, and looking for another job right now is something to be avoided, though I'm sure the best at CCP are doing so. It's a pretty horrible place to be, and I do feel for the ones that haven't really bought into this.

Very quickly my renewed excitement about EVE is turning very sour. Real life $$ transactions for items of power??? dev blogs about $1000 jeans??? what the hell did i come back to? I just cancelled my subscription.
I think i will go and reactive and play my WoW account instead. At least they only charge RL $$ for silly stuff like sex changes.
Don't bother. If you go back to WoW you will be sickened by the sight of all the sparkle ponies and disco lions that players ride about on. Also their plans are to have premium only services (like playing with your Real ID friends cross server) on top of the $15 a month. WoW is in terrible shape, only held up by momentum.
EVE my last refuge, now it's poisoned and dying. And the blame lies solely on the heads of CCP, just like the ruination of WoW is purely the fault of Blizzard/Activision. Quit blaming the customers because you companies got greedy,

Edited by: RedRage88 on 24/06/2011 23:58:03 When I first got told about all this I was shocked. I have been a loyal eve player for years now, got many people to start playing it and now all this. The main response I see from this is that stupid blog from CCP Zulu, which addressed none of the concerns. It just said, 'yeh they are expensive, get over it' and 'oh that was just an internal debate about something we already stated would never happen'.
It doesn't matter who said what in the internal debate, it's the fact that CCP stated when micro transactions came out they would be for vanity items only and not game advantages - so there should never have been a debate to begin with.
Wake up and read what people are saying, instead of reading one part and then moaning about that in a blog everyone is going to read. Most ppl here didn't drag anyone's name through the mud, but are angry over micro transactions.
Stop side stepping and give us a clear answer. -------------------------------------------------- Monkey see, monkey do |

Originally by: State Adler CCP is doomed. EVE was something very special in the sea of WoW clones, but the market is changing and CCP isn't successfully adapting. CCP seem desperate to find other ways of increasing revenue, which seems to suggest that either they're not doing so well financially, or that the people in charge are blindly trying to get on the MT bandwagon. The sad thing is that they don't seem to realise that the EVE community is not your typical MMO community.
+1 This. I had that exact same thought. Either they are in financial trouble or they are just doing dumb stupid crap because everyone else is doing it. Since when has CCP started doing what everyone else is. Last I looked, EVE was the only game that did things differently and that's what made it awesome.
It's quite interesting, and scary, if you elaborate on it. Other people have mentioned parts of this before, so let's sum it up:
* CCP develops EVE, WoD and Dust. * CCP has income from EVE alone. * CCP contacts investors for WoD and Dust. * Investors demand results, CCP need money. - step one is to reduce cost to produce EVE, so they add Incarna (WoD development material) and outsource resources - step two is to make more money out of EVE
Now, painted in the corner, CCP desperately need this money. Now. They have no choice but to MT, and no matter how angry we are, CCP will have to take drastic decisions. Like adding +6 implants and/or ammo/ships etc.
At the end of the day, EVE will die either way. CCP is just trying to save their future products, and resources to build EVE has been long outsourced, so this game is technicly already given up. Our consolation (and good news?) is that the game actually works, and could run with minimum resources, like how Blizzard kept Diablo 2 up. The bad news is that when/if the AUR for non-vanity items is implemented, the game is forever toast.
The only way CCP could salvage this, is by cutting down expenses on production and drop the excessive MT ideas. That'll drop EVE production to a minimum, and focus completely on Dust and WoD until it produces revenue. Maybe CCP will have to fire staff too.
But if above asumptions are at least remotely correct, then the only hope we have, is that CCP will actually drop all production of EVE (it's almost there anyway), and/or fire staff. Else this game will die. Our biggest hope is that CCP don't want to be known as the company that treated their customers this way. They already got a bad reputation (t20/Kugu, and now this), but they can still salvage the situation by coming clear and not **** this game up completely.
One could always hope. -

Dear investors,
We cannot pursue this line of business because it does not fit in EVE Online the way it does in other games. Unlike other games, EVE Online playerbase is in charge of the games own economy, and if we do as it was proposed the game as it has been so far will cease to be. We will alienate our so far loyal, intelligent player base and will be flooded by 10 to 15 year old from these-other-gamesÖ who will then start complaining that EVE is too hard, too cold and too unforgiving. Thus, the game will die.
We cannot implement game-changing virtual-store itens.
You're basically telling that investors and people who do not understand EVE, demand things based on other games because they think that all MMO's are the same. You have a little bit of a contradiction in your post. ____________
