My opinion is as follows.
The primary gameplay of Eve is "internet spaceship PvP" - this is what Eve does best and is what sets it apart from other MMOs. The majority of other MMOs revolve around prefabricated PvE grinding, where the word "multiplayer" refers to playing WITH other people (co-op). The interesting thing about Eve is that here "multiplayer" primarily means playing AGAINST other people.
As far as I'm concerned, the function of PvE in Eve is "something to do when you're not PvPing", and for practice/tutorials. PvP is where the actual fun is (obsessive-compulsive disorder notwithstanding).
CCP should primarily focus on internet spaceship PvP, not on walking in stations, not on mindless PvE grind/clickfest. There are plenty of ways that PvP can be tweaked, refined and improved upon - it's not a finished article that can be set aside. By all means create a first-person shooter in the Eve universe, but don't do it at the expense of internet spaceships.
The Captains Quarters, as it stands, serves no functional purpose - it doesn't add any new gameplay nor enhance existing gameplay. Ship spinning DID provide a function by clearly indicating what the current ship is, and providing an easily-accessible right-click ship menu. Ask yourself the question: to what problem is CQ the solution? At the moment CQ actually negatively affects in-station gameplay by raping the user's hardware.
As for the store, I don't really care. Sure, I think it's ridiculous that someone would want to pay $80 for a *copy* of a virtual item that has no function whatsoever, but if they want to waste their own money that's their prerogative.

OMG YES PLEASE
OMG! SO USEFUL! So I dock, load the CQ, walk down the hall way, sit in the couch, and there it is! My old UI in 1/10th of the origanl size and half my FPS. Fark, so awesome... And functional!
I run with 2560x1400 not being able to change most of the UI fonts is already annoying... Maybe I should something to aid my eyesight, not sure what though.

(strt)
We live in interesting times; in fact CCP is the kind of company that if things get repetitive we instinctively crank it up a notch. That, we certainly have done this week. First of we have Incarna, an amazing technological and artistic achievement. A vision from years ago realized to a point that no one could have imaged but a few months ago. It rolls out without a hitch, is in some cases faster than what we had before, this is the pinnacle of professional achievement. For all the noise in the channel we should all stand proud, years from now this is what people will remember.
But we have done more, not only have we redefined the production quality one can apply to virtual worlds with the beautiful Incarna but we have also defined what it really means to make virtual reality more meaningful than real life when it comes to launching our new virtual goods currency, Aurum.
Naturally, we have caught the attention of the world. Only a few weeks ago we revealed more information about DUST 514 and now we have done it again by committing to our core purpose as a company by redefining assumptions. After 40 hours we have already sold 52 monocles, generating more revenue than any of the other items in the store.
This we have done after months of research by a group of highly competent professionals, soliciting input and perspective from thought leaders and experts in and around our industry. We have communicated our intention here internally in very wide circles through the Virtual Economy Summit presentation at the GSM, our Fearless newsletter, sprint reviews, email lists and multiple other channels. This should not come as a surprise to anyone.
Currently we are seeing _very predictable feedback_ on what we are doing. Having the perspective of having done this for a decade, I can tell you that this is one of the moments where we look at what our players do and less of what they say. Innovation takes time to set in and the predictable reaction is always to resist change.
We went out with a decisive strategy on pricing and we will stay the course and not flip flop around or knee jerk react to the predictable. That is not saying nothing will change, on the contrary, in fact we know that success in this space is through learning and adapting to _what is actually happening_ and new knowledge gained in addition to what we knew before and expected.
All that said, I couldnGÇÖt be prouder of what we have accomplished as a company, changing the world is hard and we are doing it as so many times before! Stay the course, we have done this many times before."
OMFG WTF................so basically from the ceo himself, a big fu people are buying monacles we dont care............daaaaaam im done with ccp, its a sad sad day.

Originally by: DG J I have 4 accounts. I am dangerously close to unsubscribing at least 2 of them and watching eve burn. Reasons: -Lack of good spaceships in space content in over a year -CQ is burning out people's hardware -I love station spinning (100% serious about this) -CCP blatantly lied to me, first about MT, then about vanity items for MT, screw you CCP. -the lagg (which actually is improving) -CCP nerfing 0.0 anomalies for no legitimately good reason -CCP nerfing all income (i think its to get people to buy more plex at this point) -CCP's internal newsletter completely out of touch with reality, and plotting to manipulate the EvE community
The things that can get me to stay: Refocus on the core of EvE -tier 4 BS -t3 frigs -boost all income across eve so people can enjoy pvp more -remove MT, or at least never go past clothes -nerf supers -An apology from CCP CEOs and lead directors and management -fix the damn lagg
and bring back ship spinning pls.

Originally by: Lyris Nairn So how many of the angry people showing up to in-game protests are actually going to quit the game? Most people are just going to stick to the game even if it goes a way they don't want it to go. CCP is counting on that. We'll see if all this threadnaughting accomplishes anything when July and August roll around and we're able to see how many players are still subscribed.
A LOT of people who are online protesting right now have already cancelled, but depending on their subscriptions they can still play a few days or more.
Wait a few weeks and then you'll see what happens once the new billing cycle hits. |

- Machines are heating up. I don't see the gripe. Turned down my color to 16 bit, it went away but the game look terribad. This isnt a concern to me. If it was I would get better performance hardware.
- Aurum: Yes, it is over priced for the goods in question. The grief seems to be more with the idea of micro transactions as I see it. I think people in EVE are missing the point. We aren't supposed to be buying this stuff. Dust people are. Correct me if I am wrong, most of the Aurum based gear will be dust driven. Our ability to manuipulate dust with our ISK is at the very least the 'EVE' thing to do.
Much of the rage around CQ and Aurum is "the straw". CCP can pretend this was all about Aurum and CQ, feel free. You can try and spin it to that, go for it but we all know the kettle has been boiling for a while. From deadlock combat systems to expensive gameplay, to these forums being raided by trolls, RMT influence, to macro destruction, to fixed game play. Super Capitals, broken Gallente, nerf after nerf.
People are bored. The game is boring. It isn't your "fault" but you are in a position to change that but you don't. Expect people to leave. Disregard the rage. That's a focus build up. I know, I've left several times. I always need an excuse and it's usually superficiial and its code for EVE is boring. EVE is a game, meant to entertain. CQ does not yet entertain. EVE therefor doesnt need it right now.
I did gain alot of insight through Dev talks in the Tournament. The communication was great. Do it more but with a purpose. To make EVE fun again. |
