Edited by: J Kunjeh on 24/06/2011 11:16:40 Wow, I made it...all 92 pages (though admittedly I only read through about 75% of the posts therein).
I won't repeat what's already been said in this (and other) threadnaughts over the past 24 hours. I don't agree with most of the angry, angry players out there, but there are definitely some valid points being made that need addressing by CCP.
What I will do is add one thing I haven't seen much talk of: the deplorable state of the forums in general as well as community/CCP dialogue.
CCP, your game NEEDS more community managers/liaisons/diplomats/champions. Not people who are simply moderators of the forums, enforcing the rules. Rather, it needs people who love this universe, who respect the brilliant minds at CCP, and who love this community; people whose sole function is to make these forums a place of open, meaningful, constructive dialogue in and amongst the community as well as between the community and CCP itself.
These people of course would moderate the forums (a task that is sorely lacking of late), but they would also participate heavily in the discussions...not directing them, but having meaningful dialogue with the community about any and all topics. They would also prepare detailed communications each week back to CCP as a whole so that the tenor and tone of the community at any given time could be heard amidst the flurry of posting that often goes on here.
Bring back the ISD forum mods? Hire new CCP employees specifically for this function? I don't know, but I do know that this idea would serve both the community and CCP a great deal if handled properly and given the proper tools and focus from CCP so they could get the job done and do it well. ~Gnosis~ |

AUR is not bad as long as it stays cosmetic and doesnt change the balance in the game between a person with extra money to waste and a person with a normal subscription.

I hope i am wrong but i kinda seen this coming ages ago, not the MT part but CCP cant run eve like they used to with the newer products, they dont have the staff/capital/focus.
That has clearly been their intention for a few years now if you religiously read CSM minutes and watch every interview/fanfest etc.
What is worse from reading that material is the insight you get to just how broken the company is.

Originally by: Jade Constantine 4. The leaked CCP newsletter is deeply worrying because it does appear to break promises made by CCP to the CSM (and via them to the wider Eve community). It shows massive disrespect to our community and makes it painfully clear that Eve players are simply viewed as a cash cow to be relentlessly milked to fund other ventures.
The PR damage from this leak is immense in terms of broken trust and hurt feelings and it will take more than simple apologies to repair û I think the Eve community will need to see and be convinced that these terrible ideas will be abandoned so we can return to our subscription-based sandbox unthreatened by Gorden Gecko and his macro-transactional madness.
I believe you need to re-engage with Eve community via the CSM and devblogs, developer-chats etc and actively win us back at this point. I certainly need to hear that you are turning from the destructive path of greedy money-grubbing microtransactions for everything with one hand while you continue to take my subscription money with the other. I need to get my faith in CCP the company back.
5. Finally, the principle that microtransactions could be widened to include balance-breaking advantages for cash payments on top of the subscription is simply untenable in this environment. The impact of doing this will be many lost subscriptions to the perception you are double-charging people for content and breaking the gameplay integrity of the single server environment. You will spoil a gameworld that has been eight years in the making as the Noble Exchange has already begun to spoil our sensation of the sandbox and as the rushed incomplete terrible-looking CQ has damaged our collective suspension of disbelief.
If you must go down this route then Eve will eventually need to go free-to-play and you will have to exist entirely on microtransactions for everything. But I think we both know this is not going to fly. I strongly advise you to take the message back to the management that if you are short of cash simply look at upping the subscription fee rather than messing with the sandbox in this destructively short-sighted manner.
$70 dollar monocles or ôgold torpedoesö will not bring the crowds flooding into Incarna. People join games because they are original, accessible and fun. That is why World of Tanks works û not because the developers there are offering bling tank-decals for premium bucks!
CCP already have a unique IP in the worldÆs biggest single-server science-fiction simulation sandbox. Stop trying to copy the bloody fairy sparkle ponies in Wow! Put your minds back on Eve Online front and centre and finish the content we need finishing and stop trying to force-feed us with microtransaction-delivered immersion-breaking rubbish. You have a loyal and passionate player base right now. Work a bit at keeping us.
Monocle-gate has made CCP the laughing stock of the gaming industry.
Listening to the player base and stepping back from the egotistical insanities of the "greed-is-good" brink will be the one thing you can actually do that deserves to be called ôfearless" at this point.
Quoting this because it's exactly what we feel. Incarna has little less to do with it. It's the direction EVE is taking that is the big scare.

CCP need to do the following.
1 Guarantee that no RM transactions will have an effect once you launch from station (do what you like with clothing and monocles when docked) 2. Allow players a "Stay in pod on docking" option that restores the classic hangar view. 3. Divert a little devtime towards things that affect the current playerbase.
If you want to expand the EVE franchise, go for it - just keep developing the existing universe in a way that suits the players who have funded your lives for the past 8 years.

I'm not an apologist. I have been as vocal as I've had time for about CCP throwing away programming resources on Incarna instead of fixing even a few of the existing issues . . . permanently. It is really depressing to see many of them come back after every upgrade.
My philosophy lately has been that I will continue to play the game no matter how badly it gets messed up in the name of progress. But there are limits. It shouldn't be that way, but forget me.
When so many people get upset about the same things, it's a bad sign.
I will say that I think you should concentrate on 'sustainable progress' and then I will shut up about the issue forever .

Well I can honestly say there has never been a patch so bad for actual game content as Incarna.
I've played since beta and wish to have the option to look at my dated old style ship hangar instead of this CQ crap I have no interest in. I multibox 4+ accounts nearly every time I play but if CQ is made mandatory I can see it killing my pc very fast.
At the end of the day I didn't play EvE so I can play spacedolls in station, I started playing because it held a promise of being a MMO version of Elite.
tl;dr The only time I want to see a human body is when its floating as a cold corpse in space.

We try and communicate with the players as much as possible. Sure, there are some things that are NDA, and (alas) there are things like the virtual goods pricing strategy (or, for that manner, <insert recent CCP screwup here>) where CSM was simply not consulted. But outside of those limitations, we do the best we can.
Similarly, we convey both our personal opinions and player opinions to people in CCP. Some are receptive to the outside perspective, some are not.
As for what you should do to best express your opinion of recent events in New Eden, all I can tell you is that CCP pays more attention to what you do than what you say.

You have to admit it takes a certain degree of incompetence and stupidity to make a game that could support at least 2 other games development during a economical crisis crash like this. Or they could have kept going at this one full steam and be EVEN better off. Then again ... why are we wasting time and effort with these corporate lackeys? Nobody there with power knows what EVE was all about.

Main concerns
Stupid NEX prices
Lead Game designer supporting introduction of non vanity items for $$$
Forcing CQ on us give us the original ship hanger which provided functionality that most needed and give us the ability to leave the pod
After all this time Incarna is not exactly feature rich
After the Tourney inter match discussions I dread what you are going to do in the winter, probably a bunch of unthought through changes that will have major impacts that you have not thought about or care about in the quest for $$$
The hell of a delay in any form of response - lets sit tight and hope it blows over seems to be the approach

I read through the leaked Fearless issue, and one part in particular stood out.
Originally by: Scott Holden
One other service we're looking at is selling faction standings. ... <snip> ... think of it like this: you can develop a friendship by "spending" your time, or you can pay to get the same benefits that friendship would otherwise allow. (I'm sure you can think of a few other situations where one might temporarily "buy" services otherwise gained only through social interation.)
What you're referring to here it prostitution. You're suggesting that we take a leaf out of the prostitution handbook and apply it to Eve.
If you want to "adopt a virtual sales model" for your games, do it in Dust 514 and WoD. Don't burn down New Eden for the sake of a new business model.

If I remember correct, you asked for "parley" it's been 10 hours since I last heard anything from you CCP, heck, it's a new day where I live.
You don't keep silent when you ask for "parley", you keep talking, you do the fast-talk and give us something plausible.
You obviously fail at PR, it's almost in the same epic-fail scale as in SWG NGE days.
