Actually WiS potentialities and benefits both in new game mechanics/contents as well as in players/customers satisfation looks so obvious and huge to me that seems really stupid to not push toward it. Only reason I can see are technical problems or resources issue.

The :18 months: was bad enough. To end up with getting nothing from it would be worse. It's ridiculous to say that there's no gameplay possibilities for WiS - there are hundreds of avatar based games out there and thousands of good ideas CCP could easily lift and adapt into EVE.
Yes, "it'd be nice" is always a good business reason to throw good money after bad.
I'm behind CCP opening up WiS to other companies to finish implementation and stock with activities. CCP throwing more of my sub money after it? No way. We're getting FiS improvements on a 6 month leaps on deliveries we need now, not a year out. And that's improvements, not the almost countless fixes queued up. e.g. Delivery of Unified Inventory fundamental architectural fixes have taken months - dentist's across the world are aghast at the amount of enamel loss they have witnessed due to teeth grinding while dealing with UI.
Dust is the avatar game platform. All you need is to complete it for WiS is a proximity comms system and rooms with mood lighting and music. Oh and some way to sexily slip out of the body armor. |

Well I for one am happy with the shelving of WIS. Even if it would be nice to walk inside a station (if implemented properly) you just have to be realistic: the amount of work needed to make this a proper feature cannot be justified. Not to mention that the way Eve is designed it makes zero sense to walk inside a station, neither from the gameplay, nor from the lore perspective.
This isn't a game where you stand as a captain on a bridge and give orders to your crew. You are in a capsule, wired to your ship to control it through your mind and body functions, the ship is the extension of your body. How is it justified to leave that environment only to take a walk through a station (which is several kilometres in diameter judging from ingame sizes) to get to your agent or whatever?
I'd rather have less features in the game but have them implemented properly and this is the way Eve is taking now. It is for the better of the game, the community made itself heard by the massive protests back then. Eve was on the edge of losing thousands of customers (and probably did). It was the only possible way to prevent a disaster and I am very happy that Eve has been saved.
The game is so vast and complex that you simply cannot implement such a huge feature without neglecting everything else and that "everything else" was what made Eve great, not walking around with an avatar. You should not forget that.
Star Citizen will probably include walking around but it is an entirely difficult game: developed as a single player primarily with an added online function secondarily- you cannot compare that to Eve. It will never have the depth but will focus instead on the actual piloting of your ship, which is also a good thing. This way I can play Star Citizen when I feel like getting my flightstick out and Eve for everything else. |

Thought that just occurred to me:
If CCP make WiS they frustrate one group of players who don't want it made and feel that it's a waste of resources.
If CCP sort of keep generally chipping away at WiS in a noncommittal way without getting anywhere then they frustrate both that first group AND the group who want it, as well as genuinely wasting resources by spending time and money without producing anything.
And if CCP abort it altogether then they wind up with a useless unsatisfactory appendix feature that just leaves people hungry for more as well as restricting the directions the game can move in, which I'll personally count as a tragedy. EVE should be free to expand wherever the creative impulse takes it.
Haters gonna hate: please put some focus into WiS. Please. Because I think there's more people are eager for it than opposed, and far more people who are presently indifferent but will embrace it with open arms if it provides interesting gameplay, PvP and profit opportunities. As long as they would make WiS stuff engaging and optional I see no reason not to have it.
The argument about it 'wasting resources' isn't a good one in my view since you can argue that wormhole space was a waste of resources for the same reason since not everyone goes into wormhole space.
WiS would appeal to a portion of the current playerbase and it would draw in new players interested in it. That's reason enough to have it.
For those players who are not interested in WiS then, cool, they don't have to do it. Just like how current players who have no interest in 0.0 don't have to go there. Or wormhole space. Or low sec. Or high sec. Or incursions. Or missions. Or exploration. Or market trading. Or pirating. Or suicide ganking. Or hauling. Or mining. Or...
There are all kinds of things in EVE that only a small portion of the playerbase engages in.
So long as WiS is focused around spaceships and space activities it is something that I want.
I can see how WiS could be expanded upon in combination with DUST - imagine hiring mercenaries to take over space stations / sov without having to slog it out shooting structures. Instead, hire the mercs who go in and fight it out -on- the station. The support fleets could be outside blockading the station from getting reinforcements. You would wind up with a battle inside and a battle outside. That would be cool to me.
I want to see bars in stations where players can congregate after a long fight and just relax with one another. People already spend hours spinning their spaceships in stations so why not be able to walk to another hangar and watch them do it.
WiS would open up so much opportunity to the game it is worthwhile pursuing. WiS is one more element of creating more opportunity for players to interact with one another. |

I think the best way to issue a rebuttal on this forum debate would be to wait until Retribution is live, let CCP Fozzie's balances take effect, bookmark the relevant "development requests" and see how the vocal members of "safest most enjoyable experience in EVE is in our null-sec, you should quit" crowd respond requesting more balance changes so they can spend 10mins changing their spreadsheets for "influence".
This game wont get old, it's not only a classic but was and still is groundbreaking. Experience for internet gamers will make some people feel bored with any game, they either knuckle down IRL and forget they played games with massive internet trolls and stifled opportunity or they knuckle down IRL and pop in sparingly to enjoy their hobby.
I stand by this, I expect certain members of the crowd to develop past their adolescence and whine about how the game is broken prior to getting a life-track that "takes them places"

Herr Hammer Draken wrote:[quote=Malcanis][quote=Herr Hammer Draken]...The whole idea of WiS is detrimental to eve game play. ... it occupies players that should be elsewhere, .... There are several reasons I love to play this game. One of them is the myriad of different things I can choose to do. In the way I, as a player, like to do them. You on the other hand are saying that I have to choose X over Y, and be at A instead of B. I will not do that. Telling people like me what to and when to do it is against the very spirit of this great Science Fiction game.
I would love to see this game evolve in the direction of a full fledged SF simulation, not only in the direction of the space ship pewpew simulation you would like it to be. Mind you, at this moment it isn't the latter, it is already much, much more than that.
So yes please, more options. Keep working on WIS.

It's just not relevant.

You need to stop repeating yourself. You've said this at least three times so far in this thread. Stating your opinion more than once isn't really contributing. And your not fooling anyone trying to pad the thread out with negative posts. "In the age of information, ignorance is a choice." |
