So.. why exactly are they paying a whole team with their own office? If they're not going to develop it?
Yeah, the Atlanta team seemed pretty sure they have jobs when I saw them at Fanfest. They're up to something, they had a cowboy hat and everything. [Legit] |

Well, for a long time we had been under the impression that the World of Darkness team were developing gameplay using the Carbon engine, which meant animations, characters, environments etc would be getting worked on away from Eve so that eventually when they were better developed and would be able to get generalised to Eve to give us WiS content. Just a few pointers here.
That website you linked isn't run by CCP or White Wolf, the statement they make has no citations and thus lacks credibility and you appear to have taken what they did say entirely out of context. The development of the CARBON framework was developed and used by both the EVE and WoD teams up until the point where it became clear that EVE's needs and those of World of Darkness were parting ways to such an extent that continued joint development was no longer a viable option.
It would make sense at that point to slow down and divide the teams to work on their own. Further more CCP have made no statement at all regarding permanently shelving the idea of further Avatar based game-play, nor have they dropped the CARBON framework for use in EVE. It may help to understand exactly what CARBON is before going off an a tangent that may serve only to make you or others appear foolish.
Here is a link to the Dev Blog that describes what CARBON is and what it means for EVE, both now and into the future;
CARBON Technology Group.
As you can see, the idea of CCP ditching the CARBON Framework is not just factually incorrect, but it is not actually possible. I think people need to do a little more research on subjects before making blanket statements, all it does is rile people up unnecessarily. The point is that there are options. Its not about better or worse its about finding a game that suits your perception of a Space MMO.
Its also good to have competitors. It keeps everyone honest and ultimately the Consumer wins. Grammatical error and spelling mistakes are included for your entertainment!

This news makes me a very sad panda.
I guess I too will now be looking forward to games like Star citizen. And if that game gives me big ships, an economy to milk and awesome WiS content, I'll protest with my wallet. Eve is about Capital ships, WiS, Boobs, PI and Isk! |

You guys who backed this, I find astonishing when Elite: Dangerous is also being pimped and offers way more attractive gameplay concepts. I hate Wing Commander tbh.
Wing Commander was one of the shittiest space sims I've ever played. The Xwing series, particularly Alliance, was far superior. You don't scare me. I've been to Jita. |

The room and door problem was fixed, by giving us the option not to load the station environment. Still it would be nice to be able to run several eve clients on average hardware smoothly, just like you could pre-Incarna.
I like the new graphics stuff they are doing turret, missile, etc animations and the new shaders and all that stuff, it looks awesome. But in the end you are still spending most of you time looking at the overview or little red dots, where fancy graphics means nothing. Gentlemen, ladies, and other assorted scum and villains.
EVE will never die.
Ever.
Because this will be the only space MMO that actively encourages theft, douchbaggery, betrayal, more theft, lying, scamming, piracy, and griefing hapless miners.
There may well be other space MMO's in the future that involve huge spaceships blowing stuff up.....but as long as humanity still produces assholes, there will be people playing EVE.
I mean, come on, you think the Goons are ever going to leave the game? Or the Russians?
Never , I say.

EvE will never die. is currently untoachable in her armored niche. Nobody neither try to challange it. Some Sci-Fi flavour is not enough to make a competitor; have to be: sci-fi background + persitent universe sandbox and non now or for the next years plan to challenge this.
The only way to die for EvE would be suiciding. Or a scenario like: CCP sell a quote to Sony and Sony destory the game (Sony is good at destorying good games)
But beside this... How many wanna-be competitor we've seen int he years? For many of them we don't even remember the names, go figure. They didn't even get close to have a ticket to join a challange against EVE.

I don't think this means the end of WIS.
CCP are doing some really good work at the moment iterating on eve's existing features but i think CCP know, like many of the players do, that the game can't just be about spaceships forever.

Just to answer a couple of points:
- Team Avatar doesn't exist anymore. As per the thread linked earlier our prototype has been shelved for the time being. Please read both my post and the one from CCP Unifex for the full picture on what's happening with WIS development at the moment. The team members are off working on a whole bunch of stuff from the launcher, through to new game features.
- WoD is definitely still in development and development is split off from EVE so that they can concentrate on their game and making it awesome.

It seems worse to hear it confirmed from you guys.
Thanks though for keeping us in the loop, you guys have been too quiet about about WiS content recently. Don't confuse that with me being happy about it though. It's a damn shame.
Although I doubt you'll be able to answer any questions, can you tell us if after the patching of Retribution there are any plans to start development on any WiS content? "In the age of information, ignorance is a choice." |

As much as i love PVP, and as much as i hate PVE-only players, i was disappointed to see WIS scrapped. I Really hope they bring this back. Several people i know were disappointed that they cant really interact with their characters outside of a spaceship. I think if WIS is done right, it could totally be a true EVE experience.
PVPIS New Item: Occular Nanite Parasite Requirements: LVL5 Stealth, LVL4 Nanotech. Function: Tracks the location of your victem for 30 minutes, including ship type, condition, boosters and implants.
Imagine being able to PVP in stations. It could be awesome way to supplement the pewpew.
