Ok so found the .wine directory, and went into drive_c and program files (where the game is supposedly installed and the install went fine) nothing there. I must be missing something real simple...... Life in the Great Unknown is what YOU make it. |

wine git from today doesn't work for me with Sisi build 33643. It crashes just before the logon screen:

Edited by: Lukor on 17/06/2007 04:27:21 I'm getting a black box over the login screen with wine 0.9.37, going to try to get my hands on 0.9.36 and try that.
Edit: Damn, no luck so far.

From my post to the EVE section in the cedega forums:
Wine is working (.9.36) with SISI (Revelations2) because it conforms to the standard windows 'way' of doing things. The rev2 update is changing the way windows stores caching/+other data:
quoting the patch notes:
Quote:
Client Changes General compatibility changes for Windows 2000, XP and Vista, to better comply with Microsoft recommended best practices for data file locations, which are now being enforced on Windows Vista.
Game capture, log and cache folders have moved from "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE"
* The capture and logs folders are now located under "My Documents\EVE" * The settings and cache folder are stored under o Windows 2000/XP: "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE" o Windows Vista: "C:\Users\%user%\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE"
To get this to work the old way the patch notes indicate the following:
Quote:
The location of the settings folder can be forced to remain where it was stored prior to Revelations II. This can be useful when connecting a second client to a test server and not mix settings between the clients.
* If the user choses to revert to this storage format, the shortcut needs to be modified to refer to: "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe /end /LUA:OFF". Note the switches (/end and /LUA:OFF) are case sensitive.
I added the "/end /LUA:OFF" to the command line options section for my test client, and the splash for REV2 does come up, but then hangs, and crashes. I used "cedega /location/eve.exe /end /LUA:OFF" from the command line, and it shows the following error:
Quote:
:~/TransGaming_Drive/Program Files/CCP2/EVE$ cedega eve.exe /end /LUA:OFF /usr/lib/transgaming_cedega/gddb.py:24: RuntimeWarning: Python C API version mismatch for module gddb_parser: This Python has API version 1013, module gddb_parser has version 1012. import gddb_parser
The splash screen shows up, then hangs there for about 20 seconds and then dies.
If that error (gddb pthon) is correct, then it will be a very small fix for cedega to correctly implement to get EVE working with Revelations2.
In the meantime, post patch day, wine .9.36 should work (unless they make any last minute changes to the game client code).

Funny, i thought that it's intended (joined testing server only ~ a week ago), or my systems are just empty. I've heard sth about fontchange in rev2, so not sure if arial-fontset is enough in fonts dir.

This is working fine for me, are you sure you have sound configured correctly in winecfg? Only problem I'm having is choppy sound when I'm doing something now, everything else is fine. It actually starts up much faster than it did on Windows.

Copy those font files to /home/whatever/.wine/c_drive/windows/fonts. That should fix the problem you're having.
If you want to know where you can download them, google is the answer.

In case you haven't noticed there is a small proposed patch that makes Eve work in wine > 0.9.36 (or at least before the now ongoing patch to REV2). It worked for me with source from git yesterday. You can find it here.
What will happen after the REV2 patch I have no idea...

On the Cedega front, it has been a while since their latest patch (May) so lets hope they bring a new one this week.

Works "fine" (well, same old issues [*]) with wine 0.9.36.
[*] I wonder if git + the mentionned patch solves them, btw. Would be nice to have map lines and colors showing for instance :-)

It didn't help with those things for me yesterday before the patch, might be different now but I doubt it. However I no longer had garbled graphics in the fitting window with 0.9.39 (git). On the other hand that bug seems to be a bit random since my gf's pc also runs 0.9.36 and didn't have that problem... hmm... perhaps she had a newer checkout or something.

Edited by: Alaki Kant on 20/06/2007 00:52:02 With Revelations 2 under Cedega 5.2.10, I can get to the login screen but no characters show up. Clicking the empty box does nothing. This may be something to do with the cache, as the EULA now comes up every time I start the game, even though I've already agreed to it. Any changes I make in options are also not remembered. I tried running LogServer.exe but it fails with Cedega (the error had richtext in the name. I can go back and get it if someone wants it).
With wine 0.9.39, the splash screen comes up and then nothing happens. ps aux shows no wine processes, so it crashed. I ran LogServer.exe with EVE and it recorded the following errors: Unhandled Python exception: Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:/depot/eve/LIVE/common/lib\inifile.py", line 552, in ? IF (big if here) the cedega 5.2.10 engine is working, try the following in the command line options section of the game settings section:
/end /LUA:OFF
Because EVE now defaults to the "my documents" crapola, it is no longer storing the cache folder and such to its own directory. (Much to the anger of many who LIKE the fact that it didn't toss stuff around prior to this supposed "fix").
the command line parameter is supposed to force the eve.exe to look in its own directory (as it was normally prior to this patch.)

Tried it, same problem as before. The character selection screen has only empty boxes. I'm not sure that it's working though, because EVE is still asking me to accept the EULA and trying to play the introduction movie every time it starts.
