I'm using Wine 0.9.45 and everything else is working just fine except text is corrupt and thus unreadable in some parts of the login screen and ingame gui. I have copied arial.ttf in place, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. The text seemed to be fine with 0.9.44 (and arial.ttf) at least in the login screen, couldn't get to the game itself at all with that version.
Are there any extra steps I could try to get the text readable? |

Not that I know of. Maybe adding more of the Arial fonts. I've got five of them: plain, bold, italic, bold-italic and black. Plus 26 other fonts.

Tried that too already, no effect unfortunately.

At the risk of cross-posting: same for me, on both my laptop (ATi) and desktop (nVidia), and with all Arial font files in the right place.

Just set up .9.45 on ubuntu 7.04 box. No corruption seen in text. (nvidia 7950GT) Sound works and all the issues occuring post patch seem to have been fixed in this version. Just an fyi from this corner.

I run Fedora 7 x86_64 with a Core 2 Duo and an Geforce Go 7600.
I use wine 0.9.45-1 and I can run and login to eve. Performance is very poor, around 8 fps in login screen and < 5 fps in station.
When I start, I get the following messages:
Quote: fixme:process:IsWow64Process (0xffffffff 0x33fc34) stub! fixme:process:IsWow64Process (0xffffffff 0x34b7e0) stub! fixme:process:IsWow64Process (0xffffffff 0x34b7e0) stub! fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x34ae34,0x00000000), stub! fixme:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_GetAvailableTextureMem (0x130c98) : stub, simulating 128MB for now, returning 128MB left fixme:imm:ImmReleaseContext (0xf0032, 0x119390): stub fixme:imm:ImmGetIMEFileNameA (0x4130413, 0x34b580, 260): stub fixme:imm:ImmGetIMEFileNameA (0x4130413, 0x34b4b4, 260): stub fixme:d3d_draw:drawPrimitive Using software emulation because not all material properties could be tracked
The Last message is repeated several hundreds of times. I've searched for the error, it looks like a common one, but not everyone has performance problems, even if they have this error. I have checked in glxinfo, and it reports that direct rendering is activated. The offcial Nvida drivers are also loaded.
I have this in my registry (registry export of the key):
Quote: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\AppDefaults\ExeFile.exe\Direct3D] "DirectDrawRenderer"="opengl" "OffScreenRenderingMode"="pbuffer" "VideoMemorySize"="128"
Does somebody know what I'm doing wrong here?

I had around 5500 fps with glxgears.
I have solved the problem now, I had used the nvidia-kmod from the Fedora repository, but it seems that isn't the same as the official nvidia drivers. After downloading and installing the official drivers from www.nvidia.com, it worked like a charm. I have 50-70 fps in station and 15-60 fps outside.

I'm trying to run Eve under Wine .9.45 on Fiesty Fawn and I can login, select a character, fly around a little bit, buy stuff, etc. I just turned off the sound using the prefs.ini file to get it to run. But I'm having a couple of problems still.
The first one is issues with graphics corruption. Graphics frequently show up blurred, or in the wrong locations.
The second problem is the client crashing when I undock from the station. If I log in after this crash, I'm in my ship in space, so I'm not really sure what this means.
I am using winecfg and winefile to setup and run Eve.

try downgrading to wine 9.44 i updated to 9.45 and the fps were just too low and lots of bugs, first remove wine 9.45 ( do not completely remove ) and download wine 9.44 for your version of feisty from http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/archive/index.html and install it ( all of this should be easy since it is all done with synaptic) see if it works , if not then its either your grafix or your connection , or your system doesn't like wine :P
hope it works :D

Ok, finally got it working in Wine-0.9.45 using one of the prefs.ini in this thread. I have sound, but I'm down to 5-7 fps. Also, fonts are messed up. Yes, I have Arial.ttf in ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts/
I tried using Wine-0.9.44. No improvement in framerate, no sound, but it fixed messed up fonts and icons.

Seems to be OK here with 0.9.46, getting some new errors in console, but gameplay does not appear to be adversely affected. Very occasional CTD on leaving station or jumps (somewhat annoying with a wardec going on). Not getting the font corruption reported by others, running latest NVidia driver (100.14.19)

I've managed to get EVE running the Wine way by following the instructions in this thread (thanks Kadesh!) on Debian Lenny with Wine 0.9.44-1 (Debian package) and wine-0.9.46 (downloaded from WineHQ and self compiled). I'm using a Intel Corporation Q963/Q965 Integrated Graphics Controller and a Intel Core2 Duo CPU @ 1.86GHz. Windowmanager is KDE.
Framerates were really good, with some minor graphic glitches. But a couple of weeks later, I decided to do an apt-get upgrade, and now I've got graphical errors like this (copy link and open it by hand), even on the login screen, the performance while playing dropped to only a couple of frames, even in stations, and EVE/Wine frequently hangs my X server completely now (machine is still reach- and rebootable via ssh from another machine though).
Has anybody seen anything like that before? Any ideas what I can try to fix this?
Here's a list of packages that got updated with the apt-get upgrade:

Works for me, after doing things like copying the arial font, and disabling sound from prefs.ini. I also ran the directX installer thing from the EVE/bin-folder.
Couldn't get Eve working with wine 0.9.46, but it works with wine 0.9.41. There's a few minor graphical glitches here and there, but otherwise Eve works well. (no sound, though) I'm using Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Dawn.

I have eve working with Wine in Ubuntu 7.10 with a few problems.
I used the apt-get install wine to get the latest wine version.
I used sudo apt-get install msttcorefonts to install the microsoft fonts.
I copied the fonts over to winec:/windows/fonts and started up the installer and ran eve. Started first time like a champ. I have sound etc.
Now to the problems. I think they may be related. I have the font issue where I can't see what people are typing in chat room windows. I also get the blinking thing while I am typing to a window where everything I type blinks. I am also not able to see the undock Icon. Also, sometimes in the chat window when people put stuff in I will get misc icons of ships and items and things instead of what they typed. Other than that everything beautiful. I am getting around 50 fps according to eve's monitor thing when docked and 28-32 fps in space.
I have an AMD 64 Orleans XP3800+ processor. 1024 megs of RAM and an X1650 512 meg video card. Yeah I know mixing radeon and ATI is kinda silly on an ASUS mobo, but when I got the parts the only 512 I could afford was a radeon. Kein Mehrheit Fnr Die Mitleid |

*******UPDATE**********
I installed Compiz and the XGL drivers for my radeon to get that to work. It worked great. But, when I tried to get into eve I was down to 1.2 fps. The graphics even when docking sucked. I have removed compiz and the XGL drivers needed for it to work on my radeon card. For some reason I am not able to get the fps back and my system is still running slow with eve. I am not sure how to do a roll back as I am a new Linux user. Eve is what was keeping me from installing linux a long time ago. If anyone can offer some assitance on how to get things back to normal as far as settings I would greatly appriciate it. As I do not mind reinstalling Linux it took a bit of time to get things the way I hav them.
Simplest way would be to do an "alt" "f2" and type: "metacity --replace". This will unload the compiz manager and use the default window manager. Run EVE. When done running EVE, you can go back to the compiz manager by doing:
"alt" "f2" "compiz --replace"
You don't/shouldn't have to roll back anything. Just remember before running EVE to switch to the metacity manager.
AMD/ATI will have drivers out in the next month or so that alleviates these issues, but currently the ATI card/drivers are gimped when it comes to compiz.
(On NVIDIA with current drivers this isn't necessary.)
