I had the time to actually play a bit today
premium content works fine but looses fps if the number of ships increases to fleet size ended up with around 5 fps at friendly pos with flett + carriers transfering shield
reboot to classic improved fps by around factor 4 in fleet (which was ok compared to my old pc)
with the premium client I had one situation where a ship on screen took down the fps to barely nothing, relogging fixed that and fps was high again
eve voice seems to be working as well, at least the volume display was reacting when tapping the mic
Eve needs a public benchmarks with different scenes, small mission, big mission/complex, fleet so people can finally see how each hardware/os is capable of
----------- - server side event filtering for turret and effects - module grouping for less server calls - fix grid loading isses - document the SM3 detection |

For me, however, it looks like the selection box for some objects is too large, and stations and stargates are invisible - effects on stations and stargates are there (the glow effects for stargates, lights and elevators on Gallente office outposts), but the models/textures themselves are invisible for some reason. Everything else appears fine, and the client is totally stable. Is anyone else having this issue?
Add me to the list of peoples with this problem. It is truely a premium content problem. Classic modules are fine, but ugly :(
Sometimes, when the stargate/station should be there I have a pink/purple layout of the gate/station in the middle of the screen .Forgot to report that.

Using latest wine 9.52 Ubuntu 64 bit build (precompiled) AMD64x2 + 4G RAM NVIDIA 7900GS card with latest driver 169.4
Everything works with no tweaks required but framerates are very low (20-40 in station, and about the same in space). I am getting frequent lockups of the Premium Client. Hard lockups. Sound is very flaky as well and requires client restarts to fix. Also, Stations do not render at all (havent checked gates yet). The Map Browser for systems/constellations also does not render at all. I would say that the wine client for premium is just soooooooooo close, but it is very unstable still with the frequent lockups. Since I live in 0.0 I simply cannot afford any lockups whatsoever, so this is a complete no-go till the stability greatly improves. The Cedega wrappered client is rock stable on my machine and the graphics are very good, so I'll stick to that for now. Prefer to use wine, but oh well.

so you didn't change the offscreen rendering to fbo as described in the wine appdb? ----------- - server side event filtering for turret and effects - module grouping for less server calls - fix grid loading isses

I did..still don't have stations stargates ..nor carriers. How can I know if the regedit is ok? I inserted HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Wine -> Direct3d -> OffscreenRendringMode to fbo ( as in string value)

Edited by: Starbooze on 06/01/2008 20:02:19 yes i have regedit setup as per instructions with fbo. Here is the latest round of wine errors:
fixme:d3d_shader:shader_glsl_select >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION (0x502) from glUseProgramObjectARB @ glsl_shader.c / 3226 wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000424 at address 0x7dfd42d0 (thread 000d), starting debugger...
This was the latest hard lockup. Stations, Gates, and Carriers do not render at all. Also, antialiasing settings (via nvidia-settings) cause the client to not load at all. When in game, the client stutters alot when moving around. FPS averages 30-40 in/out of station. Using the TG Wrapper with the same nvidia-settings I get 70-90 fps in station and 60-90 fps in space. Worst ive gotten thus far was in a 12 vs. 15 fleet battle with tons of drones out and fps was right around 25 then. The TG wrapper is rock stable and has never crashed or stuttered even one time on me yet. Close, but still a ways to go.

If you install the wine .9.52 version, and then use the PREMIUM version of EVE, you do NOT need any patches at this point. Its working. I cannot say if the "classic" version is different other than it not including the new gfx package, but almost ALL wine testing in this section has been reporting with the 'PREMIUM' edition installed.
Keep in mind that if your video card will not support the premium graphics, this version automatically fall back to the classic content.

The premium content was activated (6800), but very slow, do you have solutions, either audio was not recognized in this version...

Edited by: Starbooze on 08/01/2008 05:41:17 Running the classic version with wine seems to work better as stations, gates and carriers render, however, alot of structures in missions do not render at all. Also, under both Premium and classic the suns do not properly flare, spew out fire, etc like they do with the TG Wrapper Client or when running Premium in XP.
Forgot to add in here that when running the Premium version under wine .9.52, the warp tunnels render incorrectly with patches and strange colors. Also, sometimes in heavy combat, the screen renders effects oddly, with strange patches and blotches instead of the explosive effects.

Whups. How could I forgot to also report that when using the ingame Map for both classic and Premium, the system browser which comes up on the left side, does not work at all. Oh, and also, for the mission reports, that small map also does not work. No clue why these simple things dont work as they do with the TG wrappered client. My system when dual booted into XP runs the Premium client with all effects ramped up to max with complete perfection and framerates in the 50+ in large battles with lots of drones out. As stated before, using the TG wrapper in 64 bit Ubuntu, also runs flawlessly, except its using the classic client of course.

Yes, I always forget to mention that too!
It's completely non functional with heavy graphical corruption in both cedega and wine.

Odd. That works great for me using cedega or the TG wrapper client. Play around with the control panel graphics settings and you should get it to work. Wish wine had a GUI as good as cedega has for fine tuning graphics settings. Sure makes things easy.

So the question is: - Have you installed the binary drivers for the graphics card? - WHat version of the driver? - What does glxinfo say about direct rendering? - What performance do you get when running fgl_glxgears?

Not surprising. Really. This is what makes the post above about a petition for a wine client to be so completely ridiculous. Unless CCP is willing to either
A. Implement a full Linux Port. Exceptionally unlikely. B. Hire full time wine hacking experts to support a client via wine 24/7/365 with full accountability when things go wrong.. And you can believe they most definitely will.
Edit: Don't get me wrong. I would love it if they implemented B above there, but I try to live in the real world, and so I realize that there are many things which greatly influence a decision of that nature, such as a strong desire to protect Intellectual Property that Businesses inherently cannot get away from. Adopting a Wine Client solution means they would have to abide by GPL, and thus release source code which could compromise that.

I could be way off base there, but that is what I suspect has driven them to TG, along with the portability of the TG wrapper for BOTH Linux and MAC.
imo, if you want to do something, you should do it right. first they say : yay, there will be eve on linux, be happy you stupid computer geeks" and then they give us nothing worth mentioning that is called cedega "emulator". this is unacceptable. solution ? why dont they hire good programers in the linux department and create their own emulator or just recreate eve on linux ? this way everyone will be happy. It's going to cost , aye ? so they shouldn't start with linux in the first place to begin with ! their incompetence is unbearable ! (and yes, i'm having a bad day).

This issue was covered about 10 or 12 pages back on this thread I think. Annoying how long this thread is. Really. EVE works about as well as can be expected on the new wine version. Ive been testing it all day and there is absolutely no change from the previous version.. IE, all the stuff that was broke before, is still just as broke
1. Stations, jumpgates, stargates, and capitol ships do not render. At all. This alone makes Premium via wine unplayable. 2. Map browser is broke. 3. Maps in mission briefings are broke. 4. Warp tunnels are broke. 5. In combat graphics are broke. 6. FPS while decent at first, gets worse over time, indicating the very strong possibility of a memory leak somewhere. 7. The client in space stutters quite often. 8. Stars are basicly broke. They do not flare or spew fire. 9. Just to get it to run, you must disable shadowing and set regedit crap. Oh by the way, many of you will have to disable sound too.
Most of those issues above also carry over to the classic client via wine as well. Not one single one of those issues exists with the Officially supported Linux Client. So, you choose your headache.

SOME != ALL. Caldari stations do render.
Originally by: Starbooze 2. Map browser is broke.
Map works fine. You mean the sidebar thing? That hasn't worked in Wine for a long time.
Originally by: Starbooze 3. Maps in mission briefings are broke.
See above.
Originally by: Starbooze 4. Warp tunnels are broke.
Random. Seen the same thing in Cegeda.
Originally by: Starbooze 5. In combat graphics are broke.
Only if fighting an invisible cap ship. Gun/missile/drone animations play fine. Damage is reported as usual.
Originally by: Starbooze 6. FPS while decent at first, gets worse over time, indicating the very strong possibility of a memory leak somewhere.
Fixed since erm 0.9.51+patches no sign of decreasing fps on 0.9.52, yet to do testing on 0.9.53
Originally by: Starbooze 7. The client in space stutters quite often.
Turning off HDR and setting Cache to HIGH can correct this. The stutter is usually the client pulling data off the disk.
Originally by: Starbooze 8. Stars are basicly broke. They do not flare or spew fire.
This is a problem because? Actually... just jumped to the Aunia star... it's flaring nicely and I can see some texture on the sphere.
Originally by: Starbooze 9. Just to get it to run, you must disable shadowing and set regedit crap. Oh by the way, many of you will have to disable sound too.
Well you can disable shadows if you WANT speed. I turn them on for jaunts to production bases so I can see the purdy. Sound and EVE has been an issue since I started playing in Exodus in Windows; oddly enough when I do want sound from EVE it's there.
Yeah so us wine users have to run regedit. Do you really thing the Cegeda config window isn't doing the same thing?

Edited by: El***ER on 13/01/2008 11:10:11 some problems in wine are currently
- z fighting (the flickering planet atmosphere at the premium login screen, also present in other games like Planetside under wine) only at the login screen - some transparent/non existing objects like stargates/stations/parts of the large artillery battery - incorrect atmosphere direction on planets (bright side exchanged with the shadow) - heavy fps drop when running with shadows enabled - texture issues where textures are not correct (warp tunnel/wreck gfx)
the arial.ttf issue is a bug in Eve as that arial access is hard coded instead of using the windows api to enumerate fonts the right click options in space can be on windows to as Eve had problems with that a long time ago (the star in fd- basicly blocks any useful right clicking, someone able to verify that on windows?)
so if I would be paying for wine that would be an issue but it's free and no direct ccp help
