Hm..I had the settings but they seem to be not working, because there where only single backslashes in my file.
however... First I tried without premium and I had awesmome 70 to 90 fps. Then I tried to put the premium back on, without shadows with low bloom and got 7fps. :( Now I set bloom to of and get 20 to 30...wich is ok for mining. I think in missions I will put the premium content off.. :(
btw.. Usage of both CPUs is about 40 to 70% fluctuating.

I'm new to trying to get EVE running under wine, and I've looked through all of the tutorials I can find, none of them have really helped. Here is the problem, I can get eve (premium installer used running with classic graphics) to start, I can log on and move about at poor but not overly terrible frame rates. the issue is Eve seems to fail to load any textures, everything is displayed as a white object with the appropriate shaders applied. My megathron is a kind of shiny blue green thing. beyond that the menus and random buttons are covered in white blocks.
Now I have followed the wine guide posted here, I've added the core fonts to the windows directory, installed the wine tricks thing (although I think that just installed fonts), I installed directx (but it didn't seem to do anything), and I've fiddled around in a number of ways. the one thing I can't seem to find that is in the tutorials, is the direct3d configuration settings in the Wine user.reg file. They simply are not there.
Can someone tell me how to get the direct3d config settings into user.reg (simply adding them manually results in them disappearing when I start EVE) as none of the tutorials tell me how to do this.
Also I'm currently using Wine version 1.0.0 as upgrading to the most recent causes eve to boot to a black screen and lock up my computer. I am using a Toshiba Satellite A200-AH5 laptop, running premium graphics is out of the question, but I know this thing can run EVE as I did so on my vista partition (Since deceased).

Edited by: Sevarus James on 13/02/2009 08:38:25 The biggest problem after googling that model is this: "The Toshiba T2450 initially comes with an Mobile Intel 945GM with 256MB, integrated."
If you're running with the intel gfx solution, you are going to have problems. As 3-10-09 ENDS the classic gfx client for EVE, until the 3d drivers for the intel card improve, it will be highly problematic to get eve running under linux with that hardware.
You had it running "fine" under vista as its 3d accelerated drivers for that hardware could handle it. (my guess is after 3-10, even vista on that box would have issues.)

I use to add the register lines with regedit. wine regedit Small tutorial: Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine If there is no folder/key named Direct3D, add a new key by rightclick in the area on the right and add "key". Name the Key Direct3D Add each option with right-clicking and use add "String Value". Exemple: "OffscreenRenderingMode"="fbo" <- OffscreenRenderingMode is the name of the string and fbo is the value. For Premium on ATI Catalyst 9.2, you need to recompile Wine 1.1.15 as described here:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17437
My ATI 3850 shows all models now and it works perfect.

Those of you using Ubuntu Linux, here's a way to add the Wine repository to your system software sources.
- Open a terminal/console window.
- For Intrepid Ibex, type:
sudo wget http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/sources.list.d/intrepid.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.list For Hardy heron, type: sudo wget http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/sources.list.d/hardy.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.list - Then run these commands:
wget -q http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/387EE263.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add - sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install wine
And there you have it! -- Gavri'el |

Is it normal for load time to be so significantly longer?
First time user of eve on linux, and it takes 3-4 minutes for the login screen to come up in wine -
Considering i7/8800gts etc, it seems a tad strange - is this common?

No, not that i know of. It takes less that a minute for me to login and select my character, AMD64/6800GS. And thats with both plain Wine and CrossOver, though plain Wine seems a tad slower...

When trying to get wine + eve to work on another workstation, I ran into a problem where models weren't being rendered at all. Basically I had invisible ships and stations etc. Turns out this is a bug in wine which is expressed on only some models of ATI and NVIDIA chipsets. It's discussed in depth here: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17437 I took a chance and installed wine 1.1.16 and applied the patch attached near the end of the thread. Specifically this post: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17437#c26 Which references this patch: http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=19861
Downloaded the wine-1.1.16 source code unbzipped: tar jxvf wine-1.1.16.tar.bz2 applied the patch: patch -p0 < atiglsl.patch Built dependencies for wine: sudo apt-get build-dep wine Configured and built the source: cd wine-1.1.16; make depend && make (this job takes a long time. Consider this make -j 8 depend && make -j 8 Installed: sudo make install
And wine ran like a champ.
I am still getting dips in my frame rate on network updates, swiveling my view in space, pretty much anything except flying straight or sitting still in station. Not sure what that's about yet, but ya if you're getting the invisi-ship and invisi-station prob, there's a way out.
Many thanks to hpestilence for the patch

The patch was actually made by KeithG, however I'm not 100% which ATI cards need the uniforms and varying changes (none of the nvidia cards should need them). The 1024, 1024, 52 is based off the latest released cards by AMD (the hd4800 series) so if the patch isn't working trying lowering the varying value by a multiple of 4 (48, 44, 40, so on). It could be possible that the hd2000 series of cards might support only 512 uniforms too or maybe even some hd3000 cards. Until AMD releases fixed drivers it's impossible to tell, also when I tried using 2048 uniforms for my card (hd4850) wine just crashed so that's a good indicator if your card doesn't support 1024 uniforms.
I've tried the 9.4rc1 catalyst beta but the fix isn't in it yet (glxinfo -l shows opengl capabilities), also I told the AMD devs how to install eve on wine so hopefully they can figure out the problem. They had a bug that caused messageboxes to spawn repeatedly but from the pic it looked like the old empyrean age client, so I gave them a link to the Apocrypha client full install. |

I get an error everytime I try to patch. I get:
"can't find file to patch at input line 4 Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option? The text leading up to this was: -------------------------- |diff -Nur wine-1.1.16.orig/dlls/wined3d/baseshader.c wine-1.1.16/dlls/wined3d/baseshader.c |--- wine-1.1.16.orig/dlls/wined3d/baseshader.c2009-03-08 13:01:52.000000000 -0400 |+++ wine-1.1.16/dlls/wined3d/baseshader.c2009-03-08 13:21:04.000000000 -0400 -------------------------- "
What I did was: -Download the 1.1.6 Source -Extracted it in home folder -open terminal and ran: Cd wine-1.1.16 -then tried to patch by running: patch -p0 < patch.patch
Then I get that error. What I am doing wrong again?

My experience:
distro: mythbuntu 8.10 (ubuntu 8.10) wine: What ever version is in the universe repo (1.0.1) gfx: 9800gtx+ with nvidia hardware drivers 177 sound: ALC889 (ALC883) pulseaudio installed (wine configured to use alsa). note: window manager xcfe, compositing, no compiz stuff installed.
Installed wine. Downloaded standard windows client. Ran the installer with wine. All content downloaded and installed. Installation failed at very end, however everything looked fine.
Ran EVE, no text on EULA screen. Installed winetricks (make sure you have cabextract installed first). Installed corefonts via winetricks.
Ran EVE. Everything working. Had to disable bloom and hdr as these caused gfx glitches. Otherwise seems fine. --- Not happy with something in EVE? An emo whine will doubtless help your cause. |

The correct way to phrase that statement is "...which is still supported under windows operating systems."
You are almost certainly suffering from a driver related issue. You will need to google around. --- Not happy with something in EVE? An emo whine will doubtless help your cause. |

I have just found a new issue with probes.
Wine 1.1.17 patched for "no models" fix. ATI HD 3470
Upon showing the system map the first time, it is possible to drap probes, but once the probe has been moved/range-extended at least once, the arrows become unselectable and can no longer be dragged.
Anyone else experienced this?

About compiling wine by hand: Look here for an how-to compile wine from source (including how to add patches) for Ubuntu, and how to create a .deb package directly. It's better to build debs, as you can keep trace of'em with the package manager of you choice. (Assuming you use Ubuntu, ofc.)

but 7800gt is supporting shader model 2.0, so any ideas?
