My, my, my. Despite the warnings of topic title, I just today learned of the adventurous escapes of the young bard into the South, and like many other unsuspecting pilots, have become fully engrossed in the unfolding drama of his travels.
Could Innominate Nightmare be tempted to succumb to the wiles of a sunny-dispositioned siren also recently lured to venture in that direction by the fabled warmth of southern suns? Could one so brave and principled as he be enticed by a more tentative traveler of simililar lineage? Perhaps so, if she willingly offered to share samples of spiced wines she has stowed away in her cargohold. Or, does he only have eyes for the French beauties of the North? I shall seek opportunities to discover the answer ...

INNOMINATE NIGHTMARE

Edited by: INNOMINATE NIGHTMARE on 10/08/2006 15:35:12 The Great Library Of Alexandria
I was impressed with the military efficiency of the sender of this mysterious message. One of the soldiers had very kindly taken the time to prepare a summary of the background of this conflict for me and to evemail it, so that I could learn the thrilling history as I watched the brutal battle from the sidelines.
Link
Unfortunately, due to my own clumsiness, I was no longer at the sidelines and had died another agonising death. I wondered if Pope Maltrox and the crooked cross-bearers in the Arrow Project had decided on a stronger approach and had concluded that I should experience historical Christian events first hand:
Via a never-ending cycle of death and resurrection..
After all, it would explain the ever-increasing number of frozen corpses I was inadvertantly littering the galaxy with.
I wondered if some day in the far future an intrepid adventurer would discover my "turin shroud" in the deep dark recesses of 0.0 and would present it to one of Pope Maltrox's descendants, thereby causing an almighty historical controversy.
From what I could gather from the acronym-heavy letter that the mystery solider had sent me, France had declared war on Emilio's back-catalogue of "classic comedy". Suddenly the strong smell of garlic and onions that had been permeating the venal region for the past few days made sense to me.
I could see this situation deteriorating rapidly and was very glad that I was (for the third time) leaving this region. My home in the North had become a desperate war-zone and I had now become more convinced than ever that heading down-under was a prudent course of action.
I had tried twice to go south and was, yet again, back where I started once more. I resolved not to accept temporary defeat and I bravely undocked, this time setting a different course entirely.
Instead of heading South-West, in order to then go South-East, I would cunningly venture South-East, in order to then go South-West. In theory I would end up at the same place..
Ironically, twenty jumps later I entered the very first system in 0.0 that I had stopped at, right back at the beginning of my brave adventure. I had come full-circle and was back in FDZ4-A.
Naturally I was attacked as I approached the station with the only medical bay in the area. However, this time I did not find myself suddenly re-spanwing in Venal again and I managed to dextrously evade my assailant.
I quickly moved my clone back to this station and celebrated my progress in my southbound journey. It was a strange time for quiet reflection.
I felt spurred on by my progress and was very much looking forward to learning more about the south and the exciting people who lived there. However, I had also just witnessed my first war and I was still visibly shaken by the carnage and bloodshed.
I stayed in FDZ4-A for an hour or so and spent some time talking with the residents, who were an extremely shifty looking bunch of misfits, a lot of whom had bounties on them and were members of the "Celtic Anarchy".
A quick search on Google revealed that they were manufacturers of anti-capitalist badges. I was sure that this information would prove to be invaluable later on...
One of them informed me that just ten teasing jumps to the south a 0.3 station was stocked with skill-books. Some time later I finally broke into empire space for the first time since I had begun my journey:
Link
I docked in Tasti and was overjoyed to discover that the station was indeed stocked with a wondrous variety of instructional books for me to absorb.
I immediately went on an unbridled spending spree:
Link
As I began to read the material, I could feel Forrest Gump rapidly evolving into Tom Hanks.....

Most of the great religious awakenings of history occurred when a man went to the middle of nowhere and was left to think. Perhaps the zealots in the ARROW PROJECT may yet recruit me, with their fervent biblical brainwashing. (I will resist them heavily though.)

Indeed. There are many ways to evolve a character in an MMO and they are only limited by your mind. I will be imminently expanding on this idea in a very shocking and controversial way......

Thank you for this information, which will enable me to avert another sudden death at some point. Although I am curious to try it now, just to see how much the exploding mercoxit hits me for.....

I found this hilarious when I read it, although since then I have actually had the pleasure of speaking with Viper, after he contacted me in-game. I found him to be a friendly, helpful and knowledgable person, and absolutely not a Smeg-Head.
Originally by: Jim McGregor Im really impressed by your attitude to this game. I hope you dont become a cynic anytime soon.
Thank you, Jim. I will do my best to remain optimistic about this thrillingly exciting game.
Originally by: MrTripps I will gladly go rent Repo Man, FreeJack, and Young Guns if D2 will let me back into CZD to get my stuff.
I laughed at this. If you had not mentioned these films, I never, ever, in a million years, would have recalled a single one of them! And even now that you've said their names, I still can't remember what any of them are about.....

Originally by: Borgholio I voted south. The Stain region has plenty of NPC stations.
41% voted south in the end, with 1082 votes cast. I'm going to enjoy finding out why the south is so popular.
Originally by: locus 777 The point I was trying to make is that is 1 thing to fly around commenting on the locals, and yes it has been very entertaining, but it is another to establish and live in 0.0.
Your point is valid, locus, and I thank you for making it. The following may help you to understand my logic:
In order to succeed in a challenging and unconventional experiment, it is necessary to "think out of the box." I believe that exploring as much of 0.0 as possible and building a social network of friends and contacts (and also enemies) is a far better way to establish myself than via conventional means.
For this reason, my experiment will continue to surprise, to shock, and to innovate with bizarre and original activities, crazy ideas, and unpredictable and unusual ways of advancing my character. This is what makes it fun for me and if I do succeed in my quest it will be a testament to the greatness of the EVE universe itself. I hope that helps clarify it for you.
Originally by: Dixon The Pet Shop Boys would advice you to go west...
Quoting from your song transcript: "We'll be (We'll be) what we want to be (Aah aah aah aah)"
The last part sounds suspiciously "piratey".....
Originally by: Capt Harlock The scanner is your friend in the south make sure you don't forget to switch it on.
I actually haven't figured out how to use it yet.....
Originally by: Wredstorm When did McDonalds start serving onion rings?
Whoops......
Perhaps I didn't want to write the name of their competitor in case I made a typo on the first word, accidentally substituting the letter "R" for "G" and ending up inadvertantly describing Backdoor Bandit......
(The MGRL will surely kill me for this one....)

I think that this is a great idea and you have a great way of writing. I guess you could say that I am a little surprised so far how this has turned out. I was hoping for more of a journal and serious effort to establish and try to work in 0.0 as a complete noob.
Granted your current explanation of first being known and introduced to the many inhabitants of 0.0 space seems to be working great, and maybe the in the future this story will see you settle down somewhere in 0.0.
As a empire carebear, I was really interested to see if you were going to be able to do what most people who live in 0.0 space ask empire players to do. Get in a ship and move out there.
So far you have not settled down much and really just traveling around, but it would be educational and a worth while experiment to see if someone would be constantly podded or if they could pick a couple of systems and try to make a living and life for them out in 0.0 without joining an alliance or corp. If they could trade or help with them is fine, but at the end of the day answer to no one but themselves and the pirate who is ransoming them.
Good luck on your travels and I will contine to look in this thread to see if I can gain a little bit more of an understanding of the ins and outs of 0.0 space and the players that live there.
