I can testify to the accuracy of this information, having experienced it first-hand.
Originally by: Taale Haha! As a fellow n00b, I'm just imagining all those pirates' jaws dropping at the thought of this little guy getting all that ore.
Unfortunately, the Holy Grail (Mercoxit) requires specialised mining lasers to mine. At least I know where it can be found now.
Originally by: Ann Mari I don't want to comment too often, because I'm scared I'll clutter up the thread and miss one of your posts!!!
Hi Ann Mari, now that the blog is also up this shouldn't be a problem any more.
Originally by: Haldane IV Ahh, that brings back memories of how I got into 0.0 myself. A guy called Demian Sky enquired whether I would like to bring some skill books out to him if I fancied an adventure. As a result I made much more money than I could earn in Empire at that time (quote edited by INNOMINATE to summarise)
Hi Haldane, it sounds like you met a really nice friend very early on. I think the interesting lesson to learn is that there are many ways to approach this game and that they are only limited by one's imagination. I enjoyed reading your story.
Originally by: Cheyenne Shadowborn Sounds interesting. Oh, and sorry your caps key was stuck when creating that char. That must suck.
I used the SHIFT key......
Originally by: Lisbo if you are logged out and have no aggression timer, your ship disappears...= you are perfectly safe, noone can kill/pod you
Didn't know that, but do now! I thought it was strange that nobody killed me over that 24 hours. Thanks for the advice.
Originally by: Ilea Celentay I spose I am asking where are you going with this stroy... Though I am sure time will tell, there is alot that you will need to learn if you ever will get out from that shuttle.
Hi Ilea, I don't know where I'm going either, which is why this experiment is so fun. I'm a free soul, going where the wind blows......
Originally by: Sharcy If Emilio Estevez ever starts playing EVE, he'll *snip* himself laughing
Well it's obvious that you are a high ranking member of his disinformation & propaganda office. You and I both know perfectly well that he owns half the "north"...

One of the best threads i've ever seen here.
Would be cool to sticky this for a while, this is a great read for new player and veteran alike, and the new players can even learn some things from this.....
Don't move it to "EVE New Citizens Q&A", or anywhere else for that matter, if you sticky it for the purpose i mentioned.

DAY SIX
I had decided that today would mark the beginning of the next phase of my thunderously exciting adventure.
I concluded that, as a newly initiated 0.0 risk-taker, the best way to approach this was to excitingly just log in and see what happened.
After spawning back at my clone station I had felt like a rare and wondrous Phoenix, majestically flying upwards from the ashes, my wings graciously spread out, radiantly reflecting the sun's rays in a multispectral son-et-lumiere of luminescent magnificence.
A few seconds after my excited awakening in Venal, I began a conversation with two fellow pilots who were talking in Local: Carbonyte and General Gunel.
Carbonyte
Gunel
Carbonyte informed me that the area I was docked in was valiantly guarded by the "Synchronizerz", whom he happened to be a member of. Clearly this was a paranoid organisation whose members liked doing everything together.
I had never heard of these people before and naturally I enquired as to their relationship with Mr. Estevez and The Latter Day saints of Jesus Christ. Carbonyte very helpfully suggested that he didn't know of the local Jesuit cult but that I should "read his bio" for more information.
After doing so, lo and behold, I discovered that his people were also "D2 friendly." I let out a large and unrestricted yawn. I quite liked Carbonyte, who was very friendly, but I began to wonder if I would ever randomly pass a pilot who was brave enough to have "I DESPISE D2" written in their bio.
Perhaps, when I become a little bit stronger, I may even dare to do it myself. However, I concluded that this was not a smart course of action at present, as I did not actually hate them.
Hell, I would even go so far as to admit that I found some of Emilio's movies mildly amusing. (Although I can't recall the names of any of them.....)
I think I was just peeved at not being able to breach the moat to their heavily fortified headquarters.
Perhaps it was a case of n00b sour grapes on my part. I had previously resolved that one day I would enter that mighty sanctuary and I re-affirmed this intention to myself right there and then.
I slowly closed my eyes and imagined a glimmering night in the far future, where a war-hardened ex-n00b would heroically return with large and gaping scars across his face and expensive implants in his brain, with tears streaming from his sweat soaked eyes, as thoughts of those painful first days overwhelmed his mind and senses.
A team of dedicated disciples would loyally be at his muscle-bound side, rushing swiftly, but gracefully and nobly, toward that ancient Emerald City.
He would stake his worthy claim upon those oh so fabled fields of the illustrious ore Mercoxit, that had been so close, yet so very far from his young and tender fingers, all those long and memorable years ago. He would fall to the floor of his Battleship in exhaustion, as he laid the final crushing blow and valiantly claimed eternal victory.
However, what actually happened was that I began to engage in a thrilling discussion about the mineral composition of asteroids with General Gunel. He informed me that not being able to mine Mercoxit was only a minor setback, and that a n00b like me would be able to mine the almost equally fabled ore Crokite without much difficulty.
Crokite
I couldn't help but think that it was 3AM on a Sunday and that I was looking at item number 217305 "Minmatar Faux Mercoxit Hoop Bangles" on QVC. It was cheap, it was tacky and it was not the real thing.....
(to be continued.....)

Might i offer a bit of insight into the world of Eve,
For those noobs you have a few choices
1. join a newbie corp (like it or hate it you will learn).
2. Find a friend that knows the game and learn from him as best you can. (believe me, they are out there, i am one of them =).)
3. Join a well established corporation and learn the game, its all a matter of time.
I would say along with many others, the worst thing you can do is attempt to solely "go it alone."
Anyone that attempts this "bold idea" will be left to the dismal reaches of space, where they have nothing to do but think and learn that they don't know the game, and the time it will take to learn it by themselves is endless. . . Ask many vets, a lot of 3 year old players still don't know it all (but they know more then you, so why not learn from them?)
AS for your lone ventures into 0.0, your wasting your time and your money. Alone you have nothing, and no one, you have no skills, and have no money. 0.0 is for those that can make money and have fun. . . if you want to go there. . . do it with people that know how to do it, don't try it yourself, your wasting your time. . .and believe me . . you will die =P, but should you still crave the bloodlust of 0.0, try Syndicate, at least you can dock at the stations there, if your not killed by the pirates, lol.
If any noobs have any questions feel free to contact me in game, i never have a problem helping new people. . (don't ask for money or anything sexual, i won't respond).
Thanks and have a good day =P

no offence viper, but just sod off.
Nothing you are saying is remotely true.
You don't need people to teach you anything, if you can not figure eve online out on your own, something is wrong with your brain stem, and you should go play WoW.
While it is fun to play with other people, eve is a soloable game, and it's quite easy to "win eve" solo on very many aspects.
To the OP. 10 mil isk transferred, keep it up.

Since Neckbone seems to be on holiday its great to see another itinerant storyteller arise to fill the gap.
Keep it up.
Oh and in case anyone missed it, judging by the responses in this thread and the fact that a fair amount of isk has been donated to the OP, it would appear that Storyteller could be added to the long list of potential careers for new players in the world of EVE to pursue.

Brilliant read!
Very well written I reckon and quite humerous. It would be good to get some quotes from the varous players that have been "involved" with this experiment or been subject to it to see what they think as obviously they were not aware of it when they met Mr nightmare!
Well done and keep up the good work.

I have to say that i find using nanofibres with your Micro Warp Drive very usefull for running gatecamps too. It works for any ship it even works for battleships which i once got over 3.000 with once [i think it was with a raven].
Anyway good luck with your experiment. -----------------------------------------------

I have to say, you have true talent for Story Telling. It seems that Bards are not dead in this world but they are few and far between. It is good to see a story like this getting so much attention and like most people, I am hooked and will be checking it every day in the faint hope of an update to the exciting adventures.
You need to form your own Corporation, Story Tellers Inc or Traveling Bards. Well done ! ----------

By the way, are you training skills all the time? You know you can be training up even the beginner skills to five even if you don't have any new skill books to train for a while, which you should be doing for when you want to get serious and actually accomplish something. Don't let a single hour go by without something being trained, that's my advice.

Ahhh, I love it.
You really made me laugh with your perception of events and responses to pilots
"I Hate Emilio Estevez" - priceless
I would love to see your interpretation of having a large convoy of ships pass you by... give it time, has a great effect seeing 20 or so ships all warp into a gate you are at.
Oh yeah and Mercoxit asteroids explode when you suck them dry in a radius of 5 km or something, so good idea your looking at crokite. That would make an interesting discovery though, albeit not with your miner I.
Keep it up mate and don't change your ways.
Here is a guy that enjoys discovering the game as much as discovering space, truly awesome read. ----------------------------------------------
