Thank you to those who have voted so far.
The vote will remain open until Saturday evening. I estimate that around 1000 people will have voted by then, which should be a large enough sample size to accurately reflect the wishes of my fellow pilots.
The south is currently in the lead, although this can easily change.....

I thought the point was to see whether as a noob you could establish yourself in 0.0. All this voting for which direction, and now flying off in this direction for more wild commentary on the locals, is beginning to make this 'venture' loose its track if you ask me.

True, but it's not like he's asking for handouts or anything. He's simply asking for advice on where to go next. ----------------------------------- You will be assimilated...bunghole! |

The point I was trying to make is that is 1 thing to fly around commenting on the locals, and yes it has been very entertaining, but it is another to establish and live in 0.0. Whether he goes left, right, up, down is of no consequence to me, but it is beginning to smack more of a travel commentary, than a comparison of livibility between empire and 0.0 as i believe his original intention stated. "The experiment is to see if I can make a living in the deepest, darkest quadrants of the galaxy without knowing what the hell I'm doing........"

Everything evolves, and so does the adventure and direction of our hero here. Instead of critizicing lets brainstorm a bit about what exactly a complete noob char can do in 0.0!
Long gone are the days when one could mine unharmed at hidden belts, with no npcs, so there is really not much your everyday noob could do in 0.0 I think. Your options are limited and most of the time you depend on cooperations with higher skilled chars.
I have come up with the following standard options
1. Ninja Mine Crokite and Bistot with a basic miner (dangerous and long-winded, booring in the long run) 2. Join a group of miners, Skill Haulers and haul Crokite and Bistot for a mining group (booring but lucrative) 3. Join a group of miners who tank a belt, and you piggyback and mine/haul your own minerals too. 4. Join a group of PvPers and work as a tackler in a fast frig. (Lucrative if you get a share of the loot) 5. Collect npc loot from npcers who don't collect it themselves. Make an agreement with such npcers to allow you to do that. (This can be quite lucrative, selling the named items in empire)
What else can a noob in 0.0 do?
The unstandard way would include being a barde and getting monetary gifts for that gift.

OK, I've found this thread and read the blog. Basically, I love the concept and the presentation. I love the way you write and the sense of humor. It's as good as anything I've read in eons. But because of THIS:
"What a strange situation I found myself in. Moments ago I was peacefully contemplating the merits of murder and suddenly three beautiful french women had appeared, followed by Satan.
I began to wonder if I was about to be offered a deal......"
I'm about to have a stroke

Nothing wrong with a travel commentary Personally I've never lived in any of the 0.0 areas other than the North, and it would be smashing to read about the others in this characters rather unique and florid style.

You have an amazing way with words my friend. Keep up the great stories and I hope the powers that be in EVE can immortalize this somehow.

And the winner is.......
With a whopping 40% of the vote: THE SOUTH.
A total of 940 exasperating votes were cast. Thank you to everyone who took the time to exercise their democratic right in this blisteringly exciting poll of my random meanderings.......
It is therefore, with the greatest of unbridled happiness, that I announce that I am to now to set a 100+ jump course, circumnavigating the 0.5+ systems, in order to make my way to somewhere random in the south, whilst, at all times, strictly adhering to my rule of staying in low security space..... Ah, the joys...........
After hearing the wondrous result of this crucial public poll, I thought I would get a head-start on my stunning journey south. Within two minutes of having departed I was bitterly and ruthlessly attacked by a ravagingly insane baguette-brandishing French woman:
Link
The encounter gave me an instant flashback to the eye-full of buxom gallic satanic beauties I had met earlier in the week and I had a sudden image of the busty wenches standing atop each other vertically.
It could be alleged that I was imagining a visit to the eye-full tower......
It could also be alleged that the above is quite possibly the worst joke to ever have appeared in this story. Hold onto your hats, ladies and gentlemen, there may yet be more to come......
I am going to have oodles and lashings of spare time on my hands, now that you, the kind old reader, have voted for the furthest destination possible.....
Perhaps I envision myself as a young Captain Cook, in the late 1760s, being sent to observe the transit of Venus across the Sun and discovering the coastline of a wondrous new world.
So I set off now, in my little shuttle, like a pioneer breaking new ground. There is a genuine sense of excitement about me, as I wonder what celestial marvels I will encounter in the Australia of EVE. I am looking forward to the thrilling new discoveries I am about to make.
I feel as excited as a McDonalds employee on their first day, being shown how to pour grease into the onion rings fryer.
In closing this chapter, I quote Christopher Columbus:
"Following the light of the sun, we left the Old World."
(to be continued......)

If you are indeed traveling south It may help you to read "Ye old polotics of the South Handbook" This must read piece of literature will aqaint you with the various warring factions in the warmer climate of the south. Many belive the temperature is warmer in the south due to the chemical make up of the suns others belive its the sheer amount of kinetic energy released by pod pilots. I myself think its generated by power hungry asset eating crazed alliances. From hearing the tales of your quest so far i heard no mention of bubbles be warned these are sticky beasts indeed and can be spat from ships like gobstoppers and are likely to be your demise. The scanner is your friend in the south make sure you don't forget to switch it on. If all else fails there is a button with PANIC written on it press this and be treated to a free rather wonderful fireworks display. Wether you will survive in these hostile areas i can only guess. Good luck intrepid wonderer.

And (fingers crossed), it looks as if Viper has returned to under that stone that he came from.
