Awesome idea. Would be even cooler if we could get something like this built into the client. Then the server could assign influence based on other stuff too like POS or pilot presence and what not.

If you could make the text more easily read perhaps with a different font and larger, I would like this map. It is a bit hard to read which space is which right now. Also if you could have the territory lines anti-aliased, that would make it look a lot better graphically as well. --------------

Edited by: Ishina Fel on 05/03/2007 03:00:40 This is a very nice map. I like the idea of a purely demographic/influential map, for wars we have multiple others after all. Keep running that script, and keep finetuning it! One thing that I'd like to point out is the way the program tries to center alliance names in their territory, which results in misplaced names for alliances that have territory in two different places (Band of Brothers or Goonswarm, to name some easily spotted examples). I'm not a programmer, but in my idealistic world view I hope that there's a way to somehow identify such split territories and give them their own labels.
One other thought I briefly had - have you considered 'dynamic' influence spheres? For example, if a small alliance that holds a scrap of 0.0 space is being swamped by the influence of its neighbours (or if single systems/outposts change souvereignty/owner in otherwise well fortified territories), it could get its influence artificially boosted just a bit so that it still shows up. Having something like a "deadzone" where one kind of influence always prevails and no other influence can spread into (this would also help to get a much sharper borderline to NPC controlled space than having them emit their own influence, which could eventually be pushed back). Again, I'm not a programmer, so I don't know if it's feasible. Heck, I can even see how always displaying every small alliance can lead to a cluttered, 'freckled' map with labels stacking to towers - but I just wanted to throw the thought in.

Comeone... forget about what where conflict... it isnt helping anyone if they have to look at a forum map to see where there's a conflict... not even ships killed helps you in any significant way these days... i mean to say... that if you are clueless enough to need a map for that... nvm that
what i wanted to ask is... how hard would it be to have this updated on a regular basis... something of no longer than a couple of days?... since this would be inded a great tool to have as an animated map of how influence changes in eve. Ofcourse... would be great to have more data in it... for the same purpose... so maybe i was rush into discarding the fight data...
Just imagine 2 years from now... having a visual go-into-the-past animation made out of this... with empires rising and falling... specially since were living interesting times nowdays.
i still think that even trying to get the "involved partyes" from a fight blob would be a pain... if it requires player input... but... hey... youre the genius... think aboutit maybe something could be sorted out -------------------------------------

I like the map, i would like to see battlezones marked on it somehow with a legend off to the side maybe.
the 0.0 NPC regions that are effectivly under control of alliances could be manually shaded to show that they are claimed/influenced by an alliance.
4 out of 5 stars. nicly done.

A lot of people saying it needs war info when he has clearly stated it is not a war map. What would be awesome like several people said is if it you could go back and forth in time and watch the alliances rise and fall.

This is an excellent concept and well put into play. With a bit of work and making it graphically friendly on the eyes, this could by far be (if not already!) my favourite EVE Political Map.

I know that you say this is automatic and correct and all of this, but why is it not showing FoF sovereignty in Pure Blind? The other maps show this and they are hand made. We have had sovereignty in Pure Blind for longer than I have been a part of the Alliance, and it seems very strange to not see us there when the maps made by these very big and important figures in Eve that have nothing to do with us even place us where we belong. I am not accusing you of leaving us out on purpose, but I think that if you compare your map with the map in game you will find discrepancy in Pure Blind.

Can not. I is automaticaly generated. Put some more POS, or conquer an outpost. :)
Look on your map again . . . GQ2 has an Outpost system that belong to us and has for about a month now and systems around us belong to us.

Otherwise nice map
I don't think it works like that, mate. If you want that part of the map, you've got to have more sovereignty than anyone else. If you don't got it, the map maker isn't going to change it
Should check facts before smacking . . . ----------

I really like this. My favorite map thus far, and it doesn't use any hexagons.
Perhaps you could do a diff of the previous map to the next map? It would show which alliance is gaining/losing ground, which is much more objective than trying to notate where combat is happening. &º¬íí-T«+ºH for all your political humor needs |

Originally by: Copine Callmeknau Very nice map, however there are some adjustments yuo need to make. Eliminate leakage into empire. Make sure your Gradient thingy only applies accross constalletaions/systems, and not open space. The way it is 2 systems that are a dozen+ jumps from each other, but located close to one another physically are marked as the same alliance. Also, perhaps make it not quite as defined when an outpost is on the very edge of an alliances territory.
The concept is: More influence means more territory. Simple and clear, other is the consequences. I'm planning to increase inluence, emitted by the outposts. This'll cause some move of the borders away from outposts.
Originally by: Roller This probably wouldn't be easy to do .. but if you could give your map a little memory .. as in graphicall represent the changes in influence from the previous map.
The whole question turns on lack of free time. I'm wanting to play EVE also :) But I promice, it'll be done soon.

It would be awesome if you could make sovereignty importer available to the EVE public also. Also you need to release your source code with a license (BSD license ftw ) or at least some "bull****" that says what we can and cant do with it, else we are violating the law
The Java source code is released under BSD license. The DB file - under CCP public DB license. Download licensed version of the sources from the first post link.
Let me not open the code of the sovereignty importer. I want this T2 BPO to stay in my hands, since I can't make a limited production run BPC from it.
Originally by: Duke Grail the 0.0 NPC regions that are effectivly under control of alliances could be manually shaded to show that they are claimed/influenced by an alliance.
It's impossible to make that using only sovereignty data.
