Otherwise nice map
I don't think it works like that, mate. If you want that part of the map, you've got to have more sovereignty than anyone else. If you don't got it, the map maker isn't going to change it --------

Very nicely done, this is the one and only map that really shows the claimed space. Without anyone saying: "we now own this and that, please adjust" We can just see who owns what.

Aye, I think there might be some errors in attributing the right stations to the right alliances. Up north it seems one RZR outpost is reinforcing the D2 bastards space too

I really like this map, mostly because it is objective and it sounds like it is automated so it can be done more often then the map updates that Josh or the Goons do. There are some downsides to it like not knowing which regions are warzones or not which can only be covered with human intervention. Or would it, I wonder if you can use that map program once a day to detect the latest number of kills in the last twenty four hours over a week period and have it automatically label a region being a warzone or not, could you? ___________________

The good thing about having multiple maps is that you can always compare. This map is excellent for seeing simply who has sov / stations in which space, but, as you say, lacks conflict information. Both Josh's map and Goons' map have detail about conflicts (Josh has more detail about the small alliances, little details and such, while Goons has more info on the big campaign of the hour at the expense of smaller groups). On their own, all 3 have serious flaws. But looking at all 3, and you can get an excellent idea as to whats going on in the universe. --------

Edited by: Valeo Galaem on 04/03/2007 20:17:58 I'm curious how you are able to get the sovereignty data out of the game. Do you do it manually , or are you capturing packets or checking the cache when you load the in game sovereignty map? This isn't a rip on your methods or an accusation of 'hacking' - the map is awesome and I hope to see more updates.
If you can make the updates more regularly, it would be cool if you could add an algorithm that detects territory exchanges and highlights it on the map, making the graphical effect proportional to the rate of 'influence' change.
Great map!
edit: and as Sovy said - if you can export sovereignty, export kills and if a significant number coincide with territory exchanges you're pretty sure there's a war there. Lots of possibilities..!

/emote tries to find X-Pact.
dang! I know we are quite small, but come on! We`ve been absorbed by the DMC!
As for the Drone Regions in a whole... Not a bad map! I`d day Ethereal Dawn area of influence is a bit smaller, the INVICTUS one bigger, the FREGE one a li`l bigger in the north, but smaller in the west. I dunno what`s the Volition Cult (though in the Drone Regions that`s no surprise, because of it`s ever increasing population).
GUARD land is smaller in the south, but bigger in the north. Pentagram seems ok, though (GUARD and Pentagram turfs are a mess overthere, so I know it`s hard to do a map of those lands)
Great first try, though. And I like this system of yours, so keep them coming!

This map is very nice, relatively easy on the eye, though I would suggest removing the line borders, perhaps reduce the gradient distance a slight amount
I assume that updating this requires you to manually input system information? or have you automated reading in screenshots of the map?
If you are using generated information, you could store a series of information over time and allow the user to go back/forward in time to easily see changes as they happened - that would be nice

leave the borders off.
some mistakes with station ownership seem to be in. as mentioned the razor outpost up north and the goon station in tenerifis.

Propaganda and personal bias ftl - automation based on facts ftw. As someone suggested earlier, maybe you could add a couple different size conflict indication markers based on ships killed (don't have to name the participants).

Very very good work and a nice piece of programming I must say.
Its already a good map on its own but if this is used by other mapmakers to add conflicts and spice up the graphics a bit it will pwn all other maps.

Originally by: Gutsani Verry cool! You might can code some "kills in the last 24" hours thingie to represent big conflicts? Not sure
This is not a war map. This is industrial, population, social or even political map. But not a war map.
Originally by: Rob Graves Do away with the borders, they ruin everything. And fix the colors, IAC is barely visible. Ie make an educated guess how many borders one entity can have and limit the amount of colors to that and make them all about the same brightness.
That's not an easy topo tasck. Every map can be colored with only 3 colors, heh? Ok, I'll rate my mind over that when I'll get some free time.
Originally by: Fubear Very very good work. Looks horrible and lacks the information of the other maps, but the concept is excellent.
Any design suggestions? I'm a programmer, not a designer.
Originally by: probablecause The border "edge" line is also automatically calculated, I take it? Perhaps add a smoothing function to it for some of the outer most edges. Any chance you'll open source the code? How often will you be updated it?
To smooth borders, there need to make 2 runs of render process, I'll try it on a next free time. Surely, here is the cource code.
The next update planned on 06 march. But may vary in a day or two. Maybe tomorrow.

I know that it would be significantly harder to do, but it'd be more applicable to the reality of eve if you could have the influence spread by jumps. For example have outposts extend influence over 5 jumps, and pos over 1 jump. I think it would more aptly represent the distribution of power, and help prevent smaller alliances from being blobed out by the larger ones.

Can not. I is automaticaly generated. Put some more POS, or conquer an outpost. :)
Originally by: frederik only one outpost for TCF in immensea ?i think u done an error.
It is fully covered by the influence of UNL 2 outposts and several POS there. The same is for alliance (forgot name) in Pure Blind, which completely fall under the influence of D2 and NxT.
Originally by: frederik Aye, I think there might be some errors in attributing the right stations to the right alliances. Up north it seems one RZR outpost is reinforcing the D2 bastards space too
The map is constructed on sovereignty data on 2nd March. So it may be little outdated now.
Originally by: Valeo Galaem I'm curious how you are able to get the sovereignty data out of the game. Do you do it manually
Yeah, I'm entering manually the status of the 800+ sovereign systems. Joke. Of cource it is some kind automated. Manually I have to point the script to where it should gather data. Procedure is very clean and there is no EULA conflict.
